Re: A token...
Aha! I was probably thinking of the Tukan port, which I recall was enclosed in a filtered box. But the port of Katan is filtered too, right? That the openings are sideways will probably shorten the effective length. I don't know of any other advantage than dealing with space constraints. But maybe ...

Re: Lejonklou Boazu Integrated Amp
Well... finally my Majik LP 12 arrived after a few months of not knowing if the seller would ship it. I bought the Boazu round christmas (No 10) and have fed it with Tidal Hifi through a Auralic Mini streamer. Really good with a digital source but very often i missed something. The sound was a bit ...
Re: Exakt
It's only just occurred to me that a NAS would be a great first digital product for Lejonklou. It would get more Lejonklou products into Linn systems and open up a route for a future streamer. Do it quick, before whoever at Linn made the decision to tell their customers that NAS's don't affect the ...
Re: JBL 3677
Thank you for your long and in-depth post ThomasOK, a good read. Lots of possible explanations in there that sound very plausible. Thanks for sharing your research. One of the other manufacturers that prefer wide baffles is Audio Note, FYI. I see that Icon Audio (traditionally a valve amp manufactur...

It is still the case that the source component in this case delivers very small changes compared to the Exaktbox DAC component. Imho, the interesting question is...how much performance could be gained if Linn focused on "source first" and optimised the first equipment in the hierarchy (KDSM Exakt) ...

Re: Exakt
^ You answered the question ML. So KDSM/2 is better than KDSM/1 as an Exakt source component. I wonder what non-DAC elements have changed in the Katalyst implementation that delivers this change? I may ask that question in the other place. Unfortunately, in the past, the techs over there have been r...
Re: Exakt
IMHO,recognising and accepting difference is far more important than everyone agreeing. Wise words Spannko. Just as a matter of interest. Which components described as being tuneful have you heard and felt they were dull and boring? I don't think I can say here. At best its off topic and at worst i...
Re: Exakt
Shame. I thought the debate was interesting. Particularly as ML had established a source first hierarchy in Exakt.ThomasOK wrote:In some ways I'm almost sorry I resuscitated this thread. But I'm no longer going to feed the troll.
Trying to establish what's happening isn't trolling.
Re: Exakt
But your last point is an opinion (agreed with by some) but is contradicted by the opinions of 10 seasoned listeners, just before Christmas. Fine to express an opinion of course, but should be written as such, not as though its fact. Its not like a source upgrade and Exakt are mutually exclusive ei...
Re: Exakt
A Katalyst DAC can't be used on an Exaktlink output, that's not how it works. Correct but a Katalyst'ed DS is better at sending the ExaktLink signal to the Exaktbox. All equipment involved impact the musicality. Easy to demonstrate. It has been the same before. MDSM is less good than a ADSM feeding...

@spannko :)
Re: Exakt
ML - I think Linn was wrong in its marketing message. That's different from being wrong with the solution. I would urge you to separate the 2 things, even if you think they're both wrong :)
Re: Exakt
ML's view that the KDS/3 delivers a better Exaktlink signal confirms that Exakt continues the importance of component hierarchy in the chain to the analogue signal. Cool. I don't think that's the discussion though. Its about which is the better transcription chain. For me that's Exakt. For others it...
Re: Exakt
Sorry, but in my view you have a complete wrong understanding of the source. My understanding of source is as here: http://www.lejonklou.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13 In an Exakt system you have the input signal which is the source. In the following steps the signal gets converted in multiple wa...
Re: Exakt
And inside the system, the first equipment is either DS (analogue out) or Exakt DSM - both going to have impact of the musicality. That is very easy to demonstrate. As you say ML, we can't influence the real source in the studio etc. so let's ignore that. It might be easy to demonstrate that the KE...
Re: Exakt
Its not an opinion. An Exakt DSM can't produce an analogue signal without an Exaktbox. Combined, they are the source. The DAC per se inside a set-up may not have anything to do with the source. In fact it is possible to build a digital power amp with digital input and analogue output right before t...
Re: Exakt
Its just that the Exaktbox is part of the source just like the DAC is part of a DS... This is your opinion, IMO the Exaktbox is part of the speaker. Exakt is modifying the source according to the requirements of the speaker and room. So with Exakt the speaker rules and not the source. Matt Its not ...
Re: Exakt
This will change soon when Exakt makes its way into EK350s and Klimax Exaktboxes but only for people at that stratified level. This is kind of irrelevant don't you think? It has ever been thus, regardless of the technology, which trickles down eventually, to more affordable products. At the moment,...

Re: Exakt
There is some pedantry here. A Katalyst DAC can't be used on an Exaktlink output, that's not how it works. Katalyst and Exakt are not mutually exclusive at all. They're just not in the same set of products yet - it might be an idea to consider beyond the end of today, just like you look forward to p...

Re: A token...
Yes, I meant filtering as e.g. in the Katans. They don't have any 90 degree bend, which I doubt is helpful to this cause but rather a practical way of making a port longer, but a filtered cage in which the port is placed. Lots of other factors can contribute, as the positioning of the port and the ...
