Re: General discussion about HAKAI (Split from original thread)
Maybe I'm lucky, but I find Volumio stable in use. My Hakai is exactly as per specification, and all the music is on a LSNAS, with either laptop or tablet as Volumio control points.

Re: Mains improvement, after the wall socket
As a collector of quotations and aphorisms, Sam Goldwyn's sayings provide me much fun. Today's theme is his statement that: "my indecision is final".... The methodology listed above SHOULD have delivered me a result, but yesterday I reverted to the generic strip and Lejonklou/Linn cables - and I'm t...

Re: HAKAI playground
The SATA ports are not the only limitation for a Hakai NAS, as the power loom with the Nano power supply allows connection for 2 x SATA and 1 x IDE. Adaptors are available to convert the third to SATA, but may have an effect? Also, in the specified case at least, there is only room for 3 x SSD. None...

Re: Mains improvement, after the wall socket
How did you manage the 15-20 minute warm up times DN? It must make back to back comparisons very difficult. It certainly does, hence the caveats I've posted since! I couldn't go back and redo all the comparisons with the Vertex AQ kit, but I did live with most combinations for a while in addition t...

Re: Linn forum down?
I've largely lost interest in Linn. This statement surprises me a little, since less than a year ago I had a completely Linn system (only the sources now remain). I first bought an LP12 over 40 years ago. A few years later I bought my first Naim amplifiers, then a few years after that I started usin...

Re: NAS Software
I've taken the same approach as with the LSNAS: one SSD with the operating system (Debian) and the UPnP server (Asset) and another SSD with music files. This now boots happily on the Hakai with both motherboards and I have been able to compare motherboards running as a NAS, and also with the LSNAS w...

Re: Source HAKAI components Cross-Country
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Thank you everybody for providing your details. I am told that the batch is due to arrive in the UK within the next two weeks, possibly late next week. I am now told that the boards are the GA-N3160N-D3V rather than the GA-N3150N-D3V. Sorry for the misinformation, this has only bec...

Re: NAS Software
I was in the middle of testing when the original J3455 failed. So although brief initial impressions were good, I didn't come to any conclusions. Hence trying again with this new one.

I'm struggling with something similar. Rebuilt the J3455 board as a NAS, I've done this before but now I can't get it visible on the network. So Volumio on the streamer can't find it...

Re: Source HAKAI components Cross-Country
Wow! I never thought it would be this complicated.... 1. The supplier is very helpful, but they are a small business who do not try to sell internationally. Consequently they are currently working out how to reclaim VAT for overseas deliveries, and getting shipping quotes. This is the reason for the...

Re: HAKAI playground
It may, or it may not, be relevant that the D2P version of the 3050 uses ddr2 memory, whereas boards tested and recommended by Fredrik all use ddr3 memory.

Re: Source HAKAI components Cross-Country
I've been on Interparcel. It seems international shipping could be approx £20 if the cheapest option is taken. I've told the supplier this to set his expectations of what he can charge.... interestingly, NZ is cheaper than Sweden. Returns? I'm assuming you guys will have to pay if there is a doa. I'...

Re: HAKAI playground
The first time round was 1. J3455N-D3V and 2. N3050N-D2P. I reversed this for yesterday's clips. Each Hakai was identical except for the motherboard and memory (the N3050N-D2P requires DDR2) and the SSD was switched between them. My thoughts in the room are: J3455 has better pitch stability and timi...

Re: HAKAI playground
Struggling this time... There are elements to each that are communicative, and others that are irritating. Not sure if it's the track selection that I can't relate to through the clips, or something more fundamental with the streamer. Could it be that the performance through burn-in hasn't settled ...

Re: Source HAKAI components Cross-Country
I have been informed of a small batch of N3150-D3Vs supposedly due to be available in the UK next week at a price of £95 inc. VAT. The seller is able to ship overseas, although that may be expensive. If anybody is interested, please PM me and I will let the seller know how many will be required. He ...

Re: HAKAI playground
I will post some new clips of J3455N-D3H vs N3050N-D2P later, having run the newer board overnight. This will mean removing the earlier clips of this comparison to make space in dropbox. So last chance on yesterday's clips!

Re: HAKAI playground
OK! I'm with tokenbrit here. Second clips I find more intimate and engaging. At the same time, Charlie is right in that the first clips seem more pitch accurate. I am not sure whether this is the case in the room, however. My experience with these simple recorded clips is that, while very revealing...

Re: HAKAI playground
Ok, I may have thrown a bit of a curveball here! I chose both tracks because they are difficult to get right, poor kit won't get either of them going very well. In the first clip, Christine Tobin's voice can easily sound off-pitch and the tune gets lost. In the second clip, there should be tension a...

Re: HAKAI playground
One board has about about 10-20 hours cumulative time. The other has about 2 hours. Also, I've not yet tried to find the best USB port on either.
