Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Just use the camera app that is on your ipad from the beginning! It has a video recorder too. It works! Thanks, I didn't realise that the camera app had a built in video recorder. In my defence, :-) I don't normally use an iPAD, or iPhone, it's my wife's, she uses it for e-mail and the kindle app. ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Should have mentioned, using an iPAD, 3rd generation, in-built mic, and a simple video recorder app downloaded just to try it this out. Cost me a whole 79p! Probably worth what I paid for it. Just to try it out initially, I used the same Wings track, 'Let 'Em In'. My recording pales by comparison. W...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I'm finding this really interesting. I've made a test recording of my system but it sounds really bad compared to the clips here. It sounds small, distant and echoey, even though the sound in the room is at normal listening volume. Any tips, does the app have much impact on the quality?

Re: Playground for practical exercises in Tune Dem

Fascinating. Thanks for posting this Beck. I'm really surprised that such a minor change is easy to hear from an iPad recording played back on my laptop's in-built speakers. I prefer the second clip by the way. I have a few changes coming up to my system (starting with a swap of the hard-drive of my...

SOLD: Linn Klimax Kontrol/1

I am selling my Klimax Kontrol pre amp. Excellent condition. In silver finish. I bought this amp mid-2007 when it was new at that time but sold as ex-dem due to a very minor cosmetic blemish. On inspection I was unable to find any issue with the finish and the tiniest mark in one corner of the front...

Charlie, I find the 109's work fine even at very low levels and don't really feel I *need* to listen to them louder than I did with Katans. Having said that ... :D ... The 109's are more efficient than katans and I find that with 109's the KK needs to be turned down by "2" to match the volume from k...

Fredrik, I'm currently enjoying listening to a pair of 109's in place of my Katans. Did you get anywhere with painting your 2k arrays? Do the 2k arrays come off without too much difficulty? I suspect they are just pushed into a plug and socket arrangement (like the 3k arrays but without the screws a...

Fredrick, thanks for the reply. I've tried moving on from the Katans a few times but always seem to come back to them. Sounds like going active with my Katans is probably a safer bet than passive with the 109's - although ultimately I'm sure 109's active has the best of both options.

Fredrick, Now you've had the 109's in place for a couple of weeks and you've had the chance to live with them for a bit longer what's your verdict? I got the impression from your earlier post that you felt they were better than Katans in some ways but perhaps not really a big upgrade overall. Would ...

The Ovators look very interesting. In a way, there is a similarity to 242s. Similar price, similar size, the BMR covering all frequencies from about 350Hz up is similar to what Linn are conceptually doing with the 3k array, and then a pair of bass units to underpin the lower frequencies. Naim's BMR,...

Thanks Fredrik, I’d assumed that there was some kind of buffer circuit between the input and output phonos but clearly that’s not the case. Anyway, my second 2100 turned up today so my own little project (and educational journey!) is now up and running! In order to come to a personal decision on tha...
