I've a couple including the Karajan from his 9 symphonies, which is pretty exciting. I'll keep an eye out for this one though, especially in the local charity shops. I find them a good source of very cheap classical music, but not so good for anything else – unless you ONLY want to listen to Jim Ree...

I think you're right - 2nd hand LPs are great for the bulk of purchases (Have you tried Netsounds by the way - it's where hundreds of record dealers can sell together online? http://www.netsoundsmusic.com ) My audiophile LPs purchases are still less than a dozen - it's just that for some of those mu...

That sounds feasible - I've heard before that master tapes sound a bit boring. I guess better Hi-Fi doesn't always equal better Tune Dem. That shouldn't come as a surprise to me now, but I keep going back for more punishment! I'll keep it to essential purchases from now on, such as Classic Records r...

Hi Troll, I have a rack from a UK company called isoblue (http://www.isobluehifi.com), but it might be out of your budget at approx £100 per layer. I Tune Dem'd it with an LP12 against an Ikea Coffee table and it was better, although my LP12 has a Trampolin which is designed for heavy furtiture like...

Vinyl Re-issues
I'm fast coming to the point where I won't bother with modern vinyl re-issues unless the cost of an original is much more. I'm yet to find one that will Tune Dem better than the original and some fall disappointingly short :(. It's been an expensive lesson, but it's hard to resist the temptation of ...

Dressing mains cables & interconnects - is it worth it?
Since discovering the delights of Tune Dem, I've been making a few tweaks as suggested by forum members. In an effort to find some more, I recalled something I'd once seen on the Naim forum where some members had found benefit by organising their mains cables and interconnects. I think the term was ...

Returning to the original topic of headphones, I decided to give the AKG K24P's a go as I've not been listening to headphones as much as I anticipated and didn't want to invest so much this time around. I managed to find them online for as little as £20 and was happy to purchase without an audition....

Has anyone had the opportunity to properly Tune Dem either the Akurate or Klimax DS against an LP12SE? Whilst I've heard the Klimax DS, It was only for a few minutes. It was very impressive and seemed similar in tunefulness to the Sondek, so I would love to know how they compare in a proper Tune Dem...
Hi Paul. Pleased to hear about your Akiva experience. For me, the Akiva has been a worthwhile investment, despite the cost, but I obviously want to reduce unnecessary wear. I just have a couple of questions for you: - 1.) How often have you been using the Green paper with this cartridge, and is that...

Had a bit longer to identify the changes. Something subtle but positive has happened. It's as if the system is all now pulling in the same direction and not fighting with itself. It's easier to listen to, as if a small source of irritation has been removed. Maybe it's just my own imagination because...
Out of interest, has anyone had a situation whereby device A performed better in Tune Dem at lower frequencies, but device B performed better in upper frequencies for example? Or does this never happen - i.e. one device is always better across the board? I was just curious that's all because sometim...

Just finished it all. Wow  - I can't believe I could actually hear the difference in link direction. Of all the suggested mods, this was the one I left until last fearing I would be unable to do it, but to my amazement I could, even though it was a subtle difference. You should check them one...

Hi Leo, I can't be absolutely sure the LP12 is at it's best, but have no reason to suspect that it isn't. I use a dealer with a great many years experience of setting up LP12s and the SE upgrades are obviously recent. The system is musically involving and I do get a great deal of pleasure from liste...

Thanks for headphone feedback. For the sake of £20 I might just take the plunge and get the AKGs. The internal links in my 6100 currently have 9.5 turns - is that what you would expect or have you seen them with just untwisted pairs in the past? Just to confirm I'm looking in the right place, there ...

Hi Linnofil, Had some spare time after all so I dug out my anti-static mat and applied both mods. They were very easy in the end - definitely no soldering required!!! I don't have any headphones to test the first mod with, but can always undo it once I buy a pair - should I ever want to check ...

Wow, thanks Linnofil. I've never ventured into the world of modification, but am interested by these tweaks. I probably won't have a chance to properly investigate until after Christmas. The two changes are not entirely clear to me yet, but hopefully that will change once I lift the lid on my Majik ...

Thanks for the feedback guys. In general, the bass seems to overshadow or even overwhelm the mid-range, causing some loss of detail, which makes the tune harder to follow, particularly in complex orchestral peices. I find the 650s to be somewhat less tuneful than my main system. dlorde, I know what ...

Thanks for responding bbtye - it was interesting to hear about your friend. This is my fear also. In fact, having reflected on the matter, I've decided not to take it further and stay with my Linn system. It would be an expensive move and one which I am not confident would give me long term satisfac...

Tune Dem of Valve Amps?
I've had some spare time recently (as you have probably realized by all my posts!), so decided to listen to a Single Ended Triode Valve amp for the first time. I often read Hi-Fi World who are big fans of valve amps, especially SETs, so I thought it was time to hear one for myself. The amp was a Aud...
Thanks Ceilidh - I'm glad it's working out. I'm still a bit stunned the difference it's made, although I probably had my Ninka's in about the worst position possible! One question for all forum members - since Tune Deming the Ninka's, music is now much more involving and tuneful and the hi-fi is muc...

Thanks for the feedback bbtye - very useful. I wanted to buy the HD650s online because the savings are considerable (nearly 50% off retail), but I didn't want to listen in a shop knowing full well I wasn't going to buy from their store. I was confident my father-in-law would buy the Senn's for close...
Thanks Azazello. Had another go late last night with unfamiliar music and was able to fine tune even furthur. I also found it easier to use the suggestion that you are auditioning for a new musician (thanks to ThomasOK - 'How to learn Tune Dem' thread). I was able to stay in the room in front of the...
