Re: Recommended network components

Thanks for the advice everyone - really appreciated. I am really in awe of the level of understanding of digital systems on this forum. I am just about to test the BT mesh unit into Kalla via GS108T and BJCs and when that has settled in - will try the Amplifi HD units as an extra wi Fi system and se...

Re: Recommended network components

OK Guys Quick question for the impressive number of people here who understand networks and routers. I have a Virgin 3 Hub acting as a modem /router and a BT WIfi mesh system. Should I be looking at converting the Virgin Hub 3.0 as a Modem only and then use a 'recommended' router such as the Amplifi...

Re: Recommended network components

Spannko has very kindly sent me his pair of Amplifi HDs for experimentation. My existing network is very simple: I have a Huawei 4G router which provides wifi for the flat, and a single wired connection for the hifi. It is powered separately from everything else. This router is wired to a GS108T v2...

Re: Recommended network components

I think one of the issues with Ethernet connections may be the quality of the cable used. I have had a very long Ethernet 7.5 metre connection in the wall which used to connect my switch upstairs ( where the router is) to the Linn KDS/2 downstairs and now connects the Kalla. But a separate cat 5 con...

Re: Recommended network components

IMG_0316.jpg OK thanks Spanko. I did not realise it was this straightdorward-Lets hope its worked. I have been recommended to use a mesh wifi unit and GS108T in the music room, ( same power strip, and next to the Hi Fi power strip) and then use Blue jeans Cat 6a 8.5 ft cables to connect the mesh to...

Re: Recommended network components

I would post it here if I knew how to. At the moment I just have a jpeg image of my network - OK for emails but not for posting on the forum. Meanwhile let me try another description: Upstairs Study : The Router is connected to GS108T and a BT mesh WiFi disc via 3 m Cat 5 cables. The GS108T is conne...

Re: Recommended network components

I am finding these networks quite confusing. I have my router connected to both the GS 108T switch and the BT Mesh Wi Fi unit with 3m Cat 5 cables, all three units using the same power strip. Kalla is connected to the switch with a long Cat 5 cable ( 5-7.5m), and shares its power strip with the HI F...

Re: Källa firmware upgrade - postponed

I am not sure there are many manufacturers who realise the impact that software tweaks have on the musicality, and the ability and patience to use tune dem on each and every one of them. Having followed the 'which streamer firmware is the best?' discussions on various forums, we decided right from ...

Re: Källa firmware upgrade - postponed

Agreed I think most of us have come to expect this fanatical detail to attention with Lejonklou hardware, but to see the same degree of care and attention with software is indeed very impressive. I am not sure there are many manufacturers who realise the impact that software tweaks have on the music...

Re: Källa firmware upgrade - postponed

Great- that’s what I call real top notch customer service.

Two people out of 12 express concerns regarding the v20 upgrade and the manufacturer responds by immediately sorting out the issue.

Well done to the Kalla team.

Looking forward to v19.

Re: JBL 308P and 708P

Not strictly on topic - but my JBL305P mark1 arrived yesterday.

Really impressed with them -these are musical speakers and given their size, surprising amount of bass and dynamics.

Has been difficult to source but definitely worth the effort.

Another nod to Jajo for the great recommendation.

Re: JBL 308P and 708P

I have just moved my 308s to 60cm height ( distance between the two 170 as before) and they sound better than the previous 53 cm.

They were still very good at 53cm ( especially with Kalla) but definitely more musical at 60cm.

Room height only 2.5m.

Re: Streaming service

A quick reminder to make sure that the Spotify settings are optimized - this makes a huge difference. The default ones sound terrible and the optimal ones sound great. In my case the settings are fully optimized. Sadly analog is climbing new heights with Radikal/2 and Ekstatik and digital is relyin...

Re: Streaming service

I started with Tidal and KDS/2 when my excellent Zone-ripper gave up the ghost, and I did not want to risk getting a poor NAS drive - I have heard too many of these over the years. Tidal was much better than my back up Nas drive and I was happy. I later found Qobuz to be even better and switched . T...

Re: JBL 308P and 708P

Interesting posts regarding the 'live feeling' with some speakers- I never realised this was so important to folks. Re: JBL 308P and 708P

for me one difference with the 308 compared to floorstanders is that I dont hear the musicality when I am in another room or upstairs. Whereas with the floorstanders I sometimes have the feeling when I am upstairs that downstairs is a private gig of the band in my house. Its not soo much about volu...

Re: JBL 308P and 708P

I think you have to listen at pretty low volumes to compromise the musicality of 308s and have never got anywhere close to the upper limit for it be relevant. Having once visited a forum member who played his 350s so loud that I could feel the bass in my chest - I realise that I never play ‘loud’ an...

Re: JBL 308P and 708P

I agree. All one needs is a ‘musical’ set of speakers that let the rest of the system do it’s job, with minimal interference. Soaring treble and thundering bass are good and well but never at tjhe expense of musicality. My Komponent 110s have no bass and very little dynamics but I think they are as...

Re: JBL 308P and 708P

For me, what you’re both highlighting is just how unmusical practically all modern loudspeakers are To quote Brent Butterworth, "In the case of speakers, measurement methods that have been shown to predict user satisfaction with 86% correlation were established more than 30 years ago. They were dev...
