Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I’ve had both speakers in the past, and I’m surprised by the margin of my preference for the kans. Reminds me of the comparison I did between a modern Majik-i (with Dynamik) vs Wakonda/LK140. The modern Linn amp was nice but a bit boring somehow. I recall you preferred the LK amps that time too. I ...

Thanks for listening everyone.
Expected a few more 109 votes.
Agree with all comments really.
Need to see how I get on in the long term but they will most likely replace the 109s.

Re: Pete's System
Earlier I played "Tango In The Night" by Fleetwood Mac. I bought this on CD when it came out in 1987 and was disappointed and puzzled because it was so unengaging. The production is immaculate, the songs great and yet the album boring. When I bought my first LP12 I also bought the album on vinyl an...

In addition to finding out what equipment is being used, I'd be interested in how Fredrik experiences the clips, so which ones he prefers but more importantly, why.

Re: What’s Slam Got To Do With It?
I'm not sure what 'slam' is. Perhaps I've never heard it, or if I did hear it, didn't value it. Do you mean bass that you feel? Quite a lot of my music produces that, and it is fun, but for me not what I enjoy most. I can tune my speaker positions to produce more bass that shakes the room, but I op...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I enjoyed both 1A and 1B. My natural / automatic preference would be for A, but I listened more and began to appreciate B as well.
However, 2A suited me quite a bit more than 2B which was a struggle to follow and make sense of - by comparison.
Good bass from the little klangerdangadingdongs.

Re: What Makes a Loudspeaker Musical?
Crossovers always works with damping the audio signal at certain audio frequencies, ie robs the music a bit of energy If its not perfectly executed . One can experiment with using a single driver without any crossover and feed it with a very good music signal -, the timbre will be somewhat colored ...

Re: What causes high capacity in MM?
Ah, right, thanks for correcting me. Had a look back at the Naim forum and this is what I was thinking of, "The RIAA EQ of the Nait one was replicated in the new circuit." and "I copied the 0.15dB 40Hz bump in the RIAA frequency response from the Nait 1 to give it the same character. Technically thi...

Re: Record player for daughter
Nice system. I think it's important that she listens to vinyl again. Just the way she should like it. And it probably does. Thanks Hermann. Agree, it has to be what works for them. Just a recommendation to be careful when putting a turntable on top of an amplifier. The transformer used in most of t...

Re: Record player for daughter
Hijacking your thread somewhat but my youngest wanted a record player again. They go through these phases so glad I've hung onto the P2. This is her second attempt but she's a bit older now(13) so let's see. £150 Arcam Delta 60 warming up OK- I knew a 4140 wouldn't be deep enough... https://www.drop...

Re: What causes high capacity in MM?
It certainly works well with vintage Naim and also the Nait 50 but I think Naim replicated older phono settings in the 50.

I wonder if he's mainly concerned that it's still under family ownership and doing pretty well.
Perhaps focus on the tune is simply a 'nice to have'.
Would be interesting to find out wouldn't it.

Re: Good sounding vintage gear - examples
I should really recycle some of my gear, but have a very strong attachment to some units. My first Creek was a 4040 from 1984 but it unfortunately lost one channel in 2015 or so and have since relied on the 93' 4041 S2. The Rega P3 ( again 1984) is a work of art in my opinion and will stay in the l...

Re: Good sounding vintage gear - examples
I have had a Creek 4140 S2 since 1993 and it has been a great little stand in for my Tundra Monos when they have gone for upgrades. I think they would struggle to replace the amazing TM3s but certainly made a good fist of replacing TM 1 and TM 2. I like the way you've hung onto stuff. Plenty of gea...
