Re: Volumio.

How is everyone using Volumio: as a renderer, with a media server on a NAS and a control point, as used with a Linn DS, or with Volumio's NFS client and a mount to the NAS as an NFS server? Volumio's NFS client and a mount to the NAS as an NFS server is what I am using from yesterday .At the moment...

Re: Volumio.

Does this mean any mediaserver installed is ignored/not required It should, yes. The same would be true with cifs, of course. Your media player (Volumio) sees the media files as local files (which just happen to be in a network mounted folder). Thanks teatime, the reason I struggled to initially ge...

Re: Volumio.

Well, with the positive comments on here and from Fredrik I decided to upgrade my HAKAI to the new Volumio. Big mistake! My HAKAI now stutters constantly. Plays 2 or 3 seconds of music and then stops for a couple seconds, repeat infinitely. OK, maybe not infinitely, but I got up last night at 4:30A...

Re: Volumio.

I am still smiling about the irony of this. :) I notice that Volumio seems to randomly remove SSH-access. If it does that and you then disable Volumio, there will be no way to access HAKAI after a reboot. Are you saying if there is no Volumio the default is ssh is switched off and the only way to t...

Re: What do we know?

...Take away all vinyl and analogue recordings and you will start enjoying digital recordings. I seem to have a threshold where I am not interested in listening to music below a certain level of musical coherence. If that's all there is then I'd rather do something else. I remember in the 90s prefe...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Yeah, I can hear that now. I'm glad you mentioned it. I was too busy enjoying the benefits. I've fitted Skeets and re levelled but will have to compare properly in the morning. I've also found the best distance to the rear wall is a couple more cm out than I had them previously. I'd always been tol...

Re: What do we know?

I was much the same when I owned a CD player at home. Older recordings using AAD were usually enjoyable enough. Newer stuff in the early 90s could be awful. I think the way you have your player sounding is 100 times better than my Arcam Black Box 2/170 transport though. My Kans 2s didn't help eithe...

Kan speaker stands and having no other speakers in the room would sort out the issues and you'd be able to have your mattress and records back in :0)

Re: HAKAI NAS

When I started with the HAKAI road trip, I had little to no knowledge of Linux. I went straight for OMV for the NAS, because I was thinking in a traditional way; a NAS needs NAS Software with services, users, raid options, etc. As of today, I understand Linux much more, and I agree with tokenbrit; ...

I recommend everybody to try out the Bridge function and connect the NAS directly to the HAKAI, and the HAKAI only connected to the NAS; it gave me quite an improvement for local music playing Without a router how can you control it Sopper!? Re: Advice in upgrade path

I used to run active and passive ninkas. Active with 2x lk140 and an lk85 on the treble. I had a kairn pre and a genki cd player. One of my most noticeable upgrades was changing the genki to a majik ds and next swapping out the kairn for an Exotik, source first but as good as it was years ago, the ...

I have the F1CWS evo The ssd is screwed just under the top plate on a rooster. In the end I don’t think it matters much, horizontal or vertical. The FC1CWS evo is getting pretty warm, I don’t really like it. I have build the HAKAI NAS in a FC5 alpha This one is running much more cooler since it has...

Re: Does clearer lyrics = better tune?

I don’t get you, tbh. How do you really know what the song is about? Not a great example as naivety due to age also played a part when I first heard the song. 'The lunatic is on the grass' Even though on hearing this clearly on first hearing I had an image of a guy in a straight jacket rolling arou...

Re: DAC discussions

Alright, points noted We have a different approach it seems. In my world measurements are the first hints of a well designed unit. Measurements of distortion in audible range can’t be stated as “musical” distortion... In your world there is some kind of weird belief system going on that you have fa...

Re: DAC discussions

Since Debian Stretch in combination with MPD and Upmpdcli, the ESI is working perfectly, but makes Linux downsample to 16/44. Since I have Qobuz Sublime+ I’d like to find a dac capable of HR files. I would really like to try other DACs and maybe you can help me to find candidates. The DACs I like t...

Re: Does clearer lyrics = better tune?

So you are saying Spannko that its possible for something to tune dem better but you might understand less about what the vocalist is singing about. I find that very hard to believe and if that is the case the tune dem is seriously flawed No, I’m saying that clearer lyrics doesn’t equal better tune...

I find this works well. Pick an album from your library and play album , then close Kazoo, listen to the album and when album finishes open Kazoo, then play another album and close kazoo then listen to the album and so on and so on. I know it does seem a very strange way to listen to music but you d...

Re: HAKAI playground

My experience with Bubble is that it has to be active in order to play the next track so it is definitely in the mix somehow. If the phone goes to sleep or you close the app the music will stop after the track has finished. With Kazoo the playlist is set up and it takes itself out of the mix and eve...

Re: Does clearer lyrics = better tune?

I wouldn’t say so. I think intelligibility and tune playing are two different things. I suspect that you mean that clarity and tunefulness are two different things; if you do, I agree with you, but I think that changes the answer to the original question. In a good song, words and music are essenti...

Re: HAKAI playground

The difference between A and B is which android app I used to start the song. A = BubbleDS. B = Linn Kazoo. I definitely prefer B myself. Lumin and BubbleUPnP sound the same as BubbleDS. Only Kazoo is different and IMHO much better musically. I don't understand how this is possible! The app crashes...
