Re: Linn Launch Event

Yes, I am sure they will ditch the Akurate line. Matt With Selekt offering a Katalyst option, it fits well into the range. I suspect Selekt format modular Exaktboxes and power amps along with the demise of Akurate. Selekt will be upgraded to Organik as well with perfromance better than Akurate. So ...

For those of us at Akurate spending levels, this statement on the Linn website may be of concern: "Next-generation Klimax DSM completes the Linn DSM family line-up of Klimax DSM, Selekt DSM and Majik DSM" Yes, I am sure they will ditch the Akurate line. Apparently the current Klimax DS and DSM will continue in parallel, although its not clear for how long.

The new one is called Next Gen Klimax DSM.

Marketing genius.

Re: Linn Launch Event

I noticed the term DAC distortion! So digital perfection is not perfect. :-) It depends what is meant by "DAC". A DAC chip is digital on the input. A DAC product that turns digital into analogue has analogue components and therefore distortion. So a DAC product (rather than the chip itsself) is pro...

Re: Linn Launch Event

Of course, whether you thought it was classier would depend on how much you like fancy knobs/dials/lights. There's been a few people I've known that really like components with buttons to push, knobs to turn, and switches to switch. And many times, evaluated a component by how many it had (more was...

Re: Boazu with Majik140

I have a “problem” with SO which I find hard to understand, yet alone describe! It goes along the lines of: A rooms reverberation time (RT) is purely a function of the room. Reducing the bass output at a room mode frequency doesn’t reduce the RT, it just shifts the level down a bit, making the room...

Re: Boazu with Majik140

The amount of distortion is of close to zero practical relevance. What kind of distortion is nearly all that matters. Some we can't stand, yet it's hardly measurable. Some we don't mind, yet it's massive. If this wasn't the case, everyone would hate vinyl, all amplifiers would sound the same and th...

Re: Boazu with Majik140

To state that the room is adding "massive manipulation" is a mistake. We are accustomed to listen in rooms. We speak with one another in rooms. We sing, play the guitar and beat on drums together in rooms. Nobody of their right mind thinks that's terrible and that we really should move outside or, ...

Re: Boazu with Majik140

It's true. Our music has usually been through a lot before we get our hands on it, but would we really want to add yet another manipulation to that? In this case (donuk) perhaps move the speakers around à-la the tune method or try the classic, a big rug on the floor. It can help when speakers sound...

Re: Boazu with Majik140

There is still only one question: Does this manipulation make it better or worse? Indeed, as I said, we need to find the best compromise for the music as we are dealing with many compromises. I wish the music (on whatever format) was a copy of what is on the master tape, but alas it has been put th...

Devilish
Only if you choose to vary them simultaneously, which is not the way to find out what's going on. Only one parameter should be adjusted at any one time.

Re: Boazu with Majik140

Digital room correction is about money, not about music. 1. It's useless trying to modify the signal to compensate for the amplitude and decay variations that the room adds to the music. Because you can't. 2. When processing and modifying the music to counteract the effects of the room, you loose m...

Re: Lejonklou Active Crossover

I too think it is likely Exposure would make the crossover for the Isobariks. They made one for them back in the days when the Aktiv Isobariks were the popular top speaker in the UK so I'm sure they have the proper curves and levels. On the Linn Tunebox I think it is unlikely you can find what you ...

Re: Linn Launch Event

Seems likely that its a Klimax+ streamer in Exakt, Stereo and Surround versions - not sure if a replacement or a new uber range, given the substantial hike in price level. New box too, but perhaps the old stuff will accept the new boards. A big shiny knob on the top? Probably upgrades to Exaktboxes,...

Payment process is whatever you agree with the buyer.
Traditionally payment is made before despatch.
There is (quite rightly) no protection for trading provided by this forum, so make sure you take all reasonable precautions. For example, don't ship without insurance and proof of delivery.

Re: Lejonklou Active Crossover

Thanks for the replies. The plan is to find an analogue solution that works with RCA connections. In that case you could choose to be very patient and wait for a used Linn Tunebox to turn up - there is an early version dedicated to Isobarik and a later version into which mono active cards for Isoba...

Re: Majik 109 - inner cable upgrade

The 2K array is essentially a sealed unit. It has captive leads of thin wire that exit through a goo sealed hole only just slightly larger than the existing cables. These thin cables route around the drivers inside the unit and thicker cables would not fit in the space available. Unless you're going...

Following PMC's input to a discussion on torque settings for Twenty.26 on an unofficial Facebook group, they've pro-actively published torque settings for all their speakers on their FAQ pages.

I think they should be congratulated on this approach.
