Re: Best 007 themes

I think it is great that this thread has proven popular. I am surprised our moderators let it run (although I did say that I had voted Carly Simon's record the best after auditioning it by the tunedem method to validate my view). So, Mr L, how about a category on this forum called music??? Donuk sun...

Re: The meaning of Source First

I think debates like this are inevitable on a forum which is populated by people who have very firm opinions. Which is a shame: people who hold different views will be reluctant to contribute. We are not professional journalists, nor university students having to produce papers which are academicall...

Re: asking for upgrade advice

Dear Mike Yes, you have received a variety of views on this forum, just like you would in the pub. If you want to use the Linn streamer with a preamp, yes you will have to fix the output level. It is easy to do this - you need to download the Linn Konfig software form their site, free. Put it on a c...

Re: asking for upgrade advice

You cannot upgrade a Renew. If you get an Akurate you will be able to upgrade to the new architecture of the ADS/3 when it comes along.

Re: asking for upgrade advice

Hi Mike, Welcome. Further to tokenbrit's sound advice (pun intended), I would suggest another route to building a system. Firstly, get an Akurate DS/2. It is, imho much better than a Majik. Then get a Tundra amplifier. And use the internal volume control inside the Akurate. I upgraded from a Linn 22...

Hi Sunbeam I notice your post followed my criticism of some aspects of this forum. If you are wondering: I am not a dealer; never made £1 out of retailing hifi; spent thousands. Have a number of personal friends in the UK industry over many years. Try to be loyal and discrete with all of them. I thi...

Re: How to build hifi audio preamplifier with microcontroller PIC32MX795F512L

Hi Numeness I am not sure exactly what you are asking or even if this is the best forum... The simple answer to your last question, is, infinity. It is relatively easy to build a unit that functions as a preamplifier - especially when you can buy so much of the circuitry in the form of integrated ci...

Significant MELCO firmware update

Firmware version 3.21 is now available for direct update to Melcos. I understand it is a major re-write of the firmware. Having lived with a beta version for some weeks I can report a significant improvement to the sound. (Or not, depending if you believe it impossible in a NAS). There is also a hos...

I accept this gentlemen, and obviously my contributions to this forum must be very limited in the future. But there are two points I would like to make. Firstly, I have been listening to hifi, building up systems for decades. I have also built valve amplifiers from scratch. I have many good friends ...

The problem of torque wrenches

While I was recently reassembling a set of speakers after performing worthwhile internal upgrade the problem of just how tight to set the mounting screws crossed my mind. I do not have a torque wrench, so just used keys to get moderately tight; and did them up a bit more the next day. If I had had a...

Re: Forum issues are discussed here

What is really needed is a forum where customers and enthusiasts can discuss Lejonklou products. The present forum does not serve this purpose. Let me explain. Through a friend I heard a Lejonklou amplifier. I went to a demonstration and met Fredrick himself. I bought a Lejonklou amplifier. I then h...

Re: Where does all this leave the first time hifi buyer?

I agree with all you say Spannko. However in an ideal world manufacturers would be able to produce hifi that did not need special attention. Imagine hifi that worked straight from the box - no special stands, cables, burn in, tweaks. Just perfect hifi that sounded its best however you set it up. And...

Re: Forum issues are discussed here

I think several of the hifi forums are at a low ebb at the moment, perhaps for different reasons. It is honest of Az to state that this forum does not seek to be entertaining; that is a shame. That tells me that this forum is not clear in what it seeks to be. It is not a document of learning; it is ...

My Totem Model 1 Signatures, which seem to be similar speakers to the Sky, are also rated at 87 db.

If anyone is wondering, the Tundra 2 powers these with absolute ease and confidence at all tolerable levels.

Re: Upgrade: Katalyst or LP12

If you have a large house and lots of money - yes buy a Klimax streamer and a Klimax LP12. But if not.... Three years ago I had an LP12, a Uphorik and a house full of vinyl. Then I started the streamer route. I have never looked back. I have got back my cupboards and a spare bedroom - not a vinyl re...

I am sure those speakers must sound fantastic because there is no getting away from it, they are the ugliest in the world. I just could not live with them. I would still be seeing those slit-eyed open-mouthed monsters still staring at me even with my eyes closed.

All IMHO, of course.

Re: New Linn Dynamik Power Supply

EA Would it not be cheaper and safer to just pay to upgrade the C2200? You could blow up both, and the resale price of either will be affected. Or preferably sell them both now, and buy a Freddie-box. My Tundra 2 is superior to my 2200 Dynamic in every way. Ozzzy did a home comparison last year, and...

Re: DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?

Hi music lover Well you will know from other threads that I tread with caution in Freddie-Land because I am not fully versed in the black art of Tunedem, and I know it is a requirement to use this as a reference point when talking about the quality of sound here. Having said that I think I find 50 m...

Re: DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?

So Davaar 50 is no longer in beta. The last beta 50.100 has overnight become the latest official upgrade. As I have said on the Linn forum I regret that the volume controls on Lumin and Audionet no longer work. Obviously this is all part of a larger master plan by Linn as they seem to want to radica...

Perhaps helps to explain why it is best to listen to an unfamiliar piece of music while testing a system.

Re: Why this forum makes sense!

Interesting points Beck But being a musician is a liability in the tune dem fraternity. I have had long discussions in past threads on this and other forums as I suffer from the perceived disadvantage of being a professional musician myself of many years' standing. Even the much respected Chris Full...
