Re: Tangerine Audio Aluminum LP12 Plinth

Sorry to hear that such a gentle soul as yourself David has had a rough time on the Linn forum. I only post there in connection with DS control software and firmware which is currently ringing the changes again. I would not again share views on a tweak or experiences of new equipment with that group...

Re: Melco firmware update sounds better

If you have upgraded to Firmware 3.10 upgrade to 3.11 immediately. There is an issue around the possibility that 3.10 might mess up the FAT and lose data on the Melco hardrives. (all models I think). Fortunately I seem to be OK here, but there are some poor folk who have had to reformat and reinstal...

Re: Simple question about Tundra

Thanks Fredrick - yes it would have been nice to meet up.
I did meet a barman in Uppsala who got chatting to us - he is an electrical engineer looking for a job locally. I told him to give you a call!!

Thanks for the info. Interesting how the world works.

Catch you next time..

Simple question about Tundra

On the back of my Tundra 2 it says something about Do not use single plugs. Forget exactly what. Does that mean we have to use only Naim type double speaker plugs?? Mine has been working fine for a year using traditional banana plugs . Cheers Don, sunny downtown York PS was in Uppsala last week, lov...

Re: Melco firmware update sounds better

I am not sure if anyone on this site uses the Melco - but there is some new firmware, which allows CDs to be played through it from a CD reader. Not used this facility.

The release of Melco firmware, 3.0 has just been announced

It now has the ability to directly import your CDs onto its hard drives.

Congratulations Gentleman beck!

You will never, ever, see a sentence like "I am only one voice and may be wrong" on any other forum.

I am astonished....

I am reliably informed that version 3.0, which includes this feature, is out being tested in beta form, and will be with us any day.

Re: Totem Dreamcatchers

I am helping a mate set up his first streaming hifi. In fact his first decent system. I was able to get a Sneaky and some Dreamcatchers from Chris Fuller at Hidden hifi - the guy who sold me my Tundra 2. Well the parcels have come to my house as my mate is away, and I could not resist the temptation...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I know I mentioned this before, and yes it is all good fun, and yes it is a playground, but I really do question the value of poor quality needle drops. Look at it this way. All sound reproduction equipment has its faults. Everything tarnishes reality. Sometimes it is possible to build a system wher...

Re: Playground for practical exercises in Tune Dem

I may be ignorant, but I can never see the point of comparing needle drops over the Internet. Surely by far the weakest link in this chain is the analog to digital conversion at the sender's end and the DAC on the receiver's computer. It is a bit like my telephoning my local HiFi dealer and holding ...

Melco firmware update sounds better

I know a couple of us have played around with Melco NASs, and I have owned one since they first came out in the UK. I bought it because I could hear an improvement over the sound of a conventional NAS, and it is a very neat solution to have all my CD collection, in effect, sat neatly in the hifi she...

Re: DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?

Good points Stefan, But from my LP12 days I well remember tracking weight, arm height, keeping the stylus clean, before you even get to the subject of drive belts. After all without all this contemplation and experimentation we would just have to sit and listen to the music...... Donuk sunny downtow...

Re: DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?

David, I agree very much with most of all you write. I have 36 in at the moment. Seems to have an overall darker sound to it, but in tune dem terms it is not bad, although I could not swear it to be the best. But that is on my ADS/1. Other machines may be different - indeed they have different softw...

Re: DS firmware - what is the lastest on the most musical one?

I have been trying D36 for a couple of days. Certainly it is not a step down from 35, and I feel a bit more musical particularly in the bass. I don't know if it is psychological, but I have found over the months, that my streamer always sounds better when it is switched off from the front and reboot...

Just a couple of points before I sign off. 1) I started this thread, and have included a number of sensible points. 2) Just to state that you do not want this to turn into the Linn forum is not very helpful - and actually, rude. 3) I really enjoy the humour of the Linn forum. It is the only reason I...

Re: The New Lejonklou Streamer

Of course, the other thing Mr L should incorporate in his new streamer is a valve. Preferably an obscure directly heated triode last used in a Russian tank transmitter. If only to drive the blue panel indicator lamp. And also get an Italian to design the black box. And somehow make it extremely heav...

Re: The New Lejonklou Streamer

Also, if Mr L's alleged new streamer is to be useful, and have features for the masses, may I further suggest this: Have two Ethernet sockets, forming in effect a small "switch". This would mean that one could plug in both the network and the NAS. In many cases a switch would be unnecessary. More ec...

Of course, the ultimate streamer would have a built in analogue volume stage.
This means that instead of buying two boxes, extra money and effort could go into producing a streamer with no compromises.

Just a dream.....

Thoughts around a Lejonklou Streamer

Hi Fredrick. I was going to make this note a PM to you personally, but then, I thought, why not, others might find this of interest. So here goes: Glad that things are obviously going well for you with your new product. Now, I would not presume for one minute to advise you how to design your streame...
