Bugi - Was this a KDS1/D from new, or was it upgraded at any point?

Nice post Ceilidh, and good to see both the theoretical side with links to factual academic data, and also the more personal, subjective perspective.

Typical! A great promotion comes up in the summer when I'm moving house at the end and thus saving every penny until I've actually moved and know how much I have left...

Any idea how long you expect this promotion to run?

Re: FS: Klimax Kontrol 0 Circuit Board

I'm currently pursuing a project to develop a control board with RS232 connection, which would allow use of this audio board through remote control, front panel buttons, or linked to a DS. It's currently all working except the RS232 but which is being debugged. The only other things that you'd need ...

Can you connect other sources to the Oppo for it to decode?

Re: Fredrik UK Visit - 19th May South and 20th May North

I look forward to hearing the Tundra 2.0 in my own system, and at some point I also want to do a proper demo of the Sagatun as I may well be moving away from AV and back to a stereo only system. Or you could daisy chain multiple Sagatuns! I could (and it might well be an option I go down), but I wo...

Re: Linn discontinues all analog preamps!

tokenbrit wrote:Is there another way to use the KDSM/1 other than digital volume straight to the power amps?
Yes. With an analogue source there is an "Analogue Direct" mode (can't remember the exact name) which is an analogue path throughout the KDSM. However, it (obviously) doesn't then allow SPACE or EXAKT.

Re: Ds networkconnection via Power outlet/Wifi AP

I'd strongly recommend using a cabled connection into the room. Worth thinking outside of the box though. You may find that a 20m link internally could be replaced by a 5m cable running outside of the house using exterior grade cable.

I did that in several cases myself and it was much easier.

Can you tell us more about the changes? Do they include similar things to those on the Tundra Mono 2, such as the large copper heatsink?

Re: DS to /2 upgrade

I haven't tried. I would expect it to give an "Invalid firmware" error or something, similar to what happens if you try to put ADS firmware onto a KDS, or KDS/1 firmware on a KDS/0.

Re: DS to /2 upgrade

Davaar 25 was installed by Linn but going to upgrade to a better firmware - I'll start with 4.12.357 (previous used in KDS/1) You may struggle with that. Release notes for Davaar 25 (4.25.1134) say: Initial release for Klimax DS/2, Akurate DS/2, Majik DS/1 and Majik DSM/2. You can't normally flash ...

Re: Latest DS firmware

I'm using SPACE in my main system, but have not yet fully optimised it. I've identified the required filters, but currently just dropped them to about half of the original strength (not even using 6dB increments as a sensible start) and I currently feel that SPACE enabled is slightly better than not...

Re: Lejonklou DS player

There's an interesting thread over on the Linn forum here: http://forums.linn.co.uk/bb/showthread.php?tid=19097 It's focused on using the Raspberry Pi as a media player (with an appropriate DAC). Obviously nothing like as good as even a Sneaky DS, but very cheap and can be nicely integrated to a Lin...

Re: Lejonklou DS player

My own take on this is that Fredrik is only one man, and until he is able to find others as obsessional as he is about musicality, I'd rather that he focuses on amplifiers, and potentially accessories such as power, speaker and interconnect cables. By all means, once others are found with his ears a...

Wanted - Information about Linn's RS232 control protocol

Does anyone have any information about Linn's implementation of the RS232 control protocol between DS players and preamps? I'm particularly keen to understand what changes between different preamps, and thus the need to select your preamp in Konfig. Also, is there anything specific which would preve...

Glad to hear that you like it. Hopefully the DS for exploring new music and background while you're working, combined with your main LP12 system for more serious listening sessions will really give you the best of both worlds.

Is this a simple "plug and play" option for an Exotik+DA? Is there any config needed in the menus etc.?

This would make my Exotik+DA/Dyn identical (other than the label on the outside of the box) to a late model AK/0, wouldn't it?

Re: How do you like your second system?

One other comment I'd make in terms of physical setup is that since the Sneaky (and Renews) don't even have a display, there's really no need to have them visible, which can help with acceptability for the rest of the family, who only see the speakers.

If you're on Windows, I'd recommend dBPowerAmp for ripping, and personally I prefer ripping to FLAC in order to embed the metadata (and since I can't hear the difference).

Are you using MinimServer?

Hi Charlie. Sounds like it's working quite well as a second system. With the things you've ripped to your local drive, how is that being done: 1 - Ripping software 2 - Rip format (FLAC, WAV etc.) 3 - Server software On the last point: Shame it can’t be connected to the TV. Sounds like you really nee...
