I'd appreciate a copy before exploring musical frontiers, or otherwise, of SPACE
I see what you did there! LOL :-)

Re: Latest DS firmware

I also preferred an earlier Davaar, finding it much more musical. However I find the combination of the latest Davaar and SPACE to be preferable.

Re: Latest DS firmware

I think if we use piano tuners as an example, there's no room for subjectivity. A piano's either in tune, or it isn't, regardless of who tuned it! TuneDem is no different - one system is more tuneful than another, or it isn't. However, if one person thinks their system is "better" than another, they...

Re: Latest DS firmware

I agree that one of the main benefits of using TuneDem is that it removes subjectivity . However, I can't agree with the idea that all of those who prefer SPACE/Exakt are being impressed by the clarity and feeling that this represents an improvement. I accept that this may be an explanation for some...

Re: New cd ripping software required

Try iTunes. It's free and sounds good. The only problem, that I can see, is getting artwork if you export straight to a NAS. iTunes doesn't do it natively, but there must be some software out there that'll do it. I'll see what I can find.

Re: Latest DS firmware

I've just been doing another SPACE on/SPACE off comparison, and I have to say, I'm very impressed with what I am hearing. I didn't make any adjustments other than just switch SPACE on and off. Because there are quite a few people who are still unsure about SPACE, I started with Linn's 24 bit Ingrid ...

Re: Latest DS firmware

I think it's, for me anyway, taken the musicality away from my equipment. Fred's gear being particularly good in that respect. It's a little bit odd that the majority of Linn owners saying it's made noticeable to large improvements but the few Lejonklou guys aren't so bowled over just yet. I see yo...

Re: Streaming radio better than FM?

FM may have a sonic advantage, but I think something like Radio Paradise at 320kbps is a much better "source" of great music.

PS I've got a Ron Smith Galaxy 17 if anyone wants one.

Re: Lejonklou/Linn System

Although I'm not absolutely sure, I've a sneaking suspicion that the Akudoriks could be my favourite speaker in Linn's current lineup. I haven't heard the passives yet, but I've heard Exakt Akudoriks outperform Aktive Akubariks - even in the bass region, which really surprised me. The Exact Akudorik...

Re: Exakt

Last week neilh kindly invited me to have a listen to his passive Akurate 212 Mk2. So firstly, a big thank you to Neil for being such a hospitable host. I was also able to listen to the Sagatun monos and Tundra stereo which was an added bonus! The overall presentation of Neil's system was very pleas...

Thanks HS, that's good to know. Have you ever heard them play tunes in the bass anywhere else too, or was it just on the one occasion? What were the special lejonklou techniques you used?

I will be hearing the passive Akudoriks in the next couple of weeks, then comparing with Exakt Akudoriks. So far, the bass appears to have the same kind of quality I've heard from 212's. BUT, I've only ever heard 212's twice, and on both occasions, neither were set up using tunedem. Consequently, I ...

Thanks Charlie1, that's a good idea. Thanks rowlandhills, that's (Exaktly - Oh dear!) what I wanted to hear! It's also exactly what I would have expected. I'm going to continue with my search for the perfect Akudoriks, putting an emphasis on fine tuning and report back - hopefully with more positive...

It appears that those who have heard the Akudoriks have been quite impressed with some aspects of the sound. Personally, I think they look great and they would go (visually) really well in my room. I also really like the idea of having just one box driving the whole system. I REALLY want to like the...

Further to my earlier ramblings, It's only fair for me to report that the Akudoriks which I said were really disappointing turned out to be faulty. I heard their replacements and they were MUCH better. The dealer had only just had them replaced with a new pair, so were far from being run in. The exa...

Hi Geoff,

My first thought was 'what are you trying to achieve'? Improving musicality may need a different approach to finding a solution to just protecting your floor (although it's possible to do both).

Interesting idea, Charlie1. I think you may be correct in what you say, but I would have thought the comparison needs to be extended to the signal as seen by the drive units. The passive system would involve amplifier and X'over degradations. The active system would involve multiple amplifier degrad...

Thanks for expanding on your thoughts hcl. It appears as though we are in total agreement! Everything you describe fits my experiences to date, with the exception of the Exakt systems reproducing all of the additional information coherently. I was trying to suggest that because I've experienced most...

I'm sorry hcl, I'm not intending to be provocative. We have to be careful because so much of a persons real intent can be easily lost in translation. My concern is the one expressed by several people on this forum, although I sincerely hope I'm wrong: The Exakt systems I've heard so far don't pass t...

I agree with the view that there appears to be a disturbing trend emerging. I've heard the Exakt at 3 different dealers and whilst I agree with all the positive comments re the sound, I also agree with all the negative comments re the muscality (from a tunedem perspective). I find the mid and hf bea...

Dacmagic 100

That's great news. I've been looking for a good cheap musical dac for ages. Richer Sounds have it on special offer for only £130 (inc p&p) so I placed my order this morning. It should be just the ticket for feeding my Creek 4140 and Royd Coniston R's from the Sky box.

I must admit, I didn't give the version a second thought. Currently, I'm using iTunes 12.0.1.26. My mac is set for auto updates and I don't remember getting an update notice since doing the test.

Thomas, I found your ripper test really interesting. But, to be honest, I found it hard to believe. EAC has been the undisputed King of rippers for a long time now and how could iTunes even come close - it doesn't even check for accuracy! However, out of curiosity, I thought I'd give it a try. I use...

I've only heard the Klimax Exact and, in a nutshell, what I heard was disappointing. However, I have to stress that I've only heard it once and I would like to think that what I heard was the result of the dealers inexperience in setting up an Exact system, rather than the qualities of the system it...
