Re: Krystal Suspension

Yours looks to be settling in nicely tbh. If you look at the Adventures in HiFi pic, you can see the cantilever sitting low in the hole. On your pic, the cantilever is sitting centrally. BUT whether it’s right or not depends on how Linn designed the cantilever to sit when playing a record. It makes ...

I’ve just found this close-up of the Krystal. Does yours look like this?

Re: Krystal Suspension

It’s been a long time since I’ve had a turntable, so I’m relying on my poor memory, but there doesn’t seem to be anything unusual about how your Krystal is settling. Nearly all cartridges have a bit of compliance so will settle to one degree or another. The difficulty is deciding whether your partic...

Re: Musical Consonance: The Importance of Harmonicity

There’s definitely something to be said for short signal paths. Didn’t Einstein say that signal paths should be as short as possible, but no shorter? I’m sure he did. If we were to follow his guidance (and why wouldn’t we?), just how short should a short signal path be? I like your quote! You do wa...

Musical Consonance: The Importance of Harmonicity

For quite a while, I’ve felt that TuneDem, as helpful as the method is, doesn’t fully explain the reason for one component or system being better than another. I don’t want this comment to be interpreted as meaning that I dismiss TuneDem, because I certainly don’t. For me, it’s still the best method...

Re: It is (almost) all in the setup.

The trick is to find the setup that disturb the signal the least.. I think vibration is key. Power going through a cord or through a board with electronics create magnetic fields when vibrating. We have to find the vibration pattern that creates as little disturbance as possible to the musical sign...

Thanks beck. He was one of the UK’s most popular public figures and I’m sure the House of Commons won’t be anywhere as entertaining as it has been. We’ll miss him.

Re: Ethernet regenerator

Orrrderrr! ........ order! May I remind the honourable gentleman that BJC’s analyser costs £7500 and BJC make no claims for the sound quality of their cables, only that they guarantee the cables will pass the relevant CAT spec.

Proceed!

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I’d forgotten how good the Rega’s are, and they go really well with the Nait too. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rega used the Nait when designing them. For £100 they’re a real bargain.

Re: Best sounding LAN cable for DS

Also got a pair of BCJ Cat6 cables, must say these are the most tuneful i have had and heard, and for this small money! Thanks Mitmu. What other Ethernet cables have you tried? Tried several varieties like: - QED Performance Ethernet Graphite > very nice for it's price as well. - AQ Forest, Cinnamo...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Oops, sorry. No offence meant. In the UK it’s often felt that the Scandinavian’s have the best home decor style and have inspired the rest of the world with their furniture designs, many of which can be found in museums of modern art. I didn’t think that the Kans on the wall quite lived up to that l...

Re: Best sounding LAN cable for DS

I’ve noticed that the BJC’s have been discussed at length on the Naim forum, and the general consensus there seems to be that they are the best Ethernet cable when sound and musicality are taken into account.

Thanks Charlie1 and Tendaberry. I agree with you both that the new MK is best, followed by the older version of the same mcb. This latest video is with the new MK and same length cable vs the new MK with a shortened mains cable. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f5gj56bqvk0hoa3/AADqng4P7a1Lw7msvxbsIINOa?d...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Thanks chaps. Your feedback’s really helpful, but now I’ve got a bit of a dilemma. Listening live, L1 had a very valve like quality. The sound was open and unconstrained with a lot of finesse. As the cable was shortened (in 200mm increments) the sound gradually became more constrained with less fine...

The Fozioli sounded like an electric piano. The Bösendorfer was good and the Steinway was beautiful.

Re: M140 to Akudorik upgrade advise

Since you already have Katalyst in the Exaktbox, I would also be very tempted to get the Akudoriks at that good price. I think they might be even more scarce in the future. Well, actually you don't need a KDSM. Since you have Exakt, a Klimax System Hub will do, that saves you a nice GBP 6.600,- Yep...

Re: Thoughts on HiFi

I guess that makes you Golden Eared then Thomas. What would we say of the composer of the music that makes you cry who listens to music on a Dynatron? Or Beethoven who wouldn’t be able to listen to anything? Or Evelyn Glennie? Where does their appreciation of music come from? Does your trained ear a...
