Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

I prefer B to A - it is more musical/enjoyable to me. I agree about the smearing of the notes in B and the tighter notes in A - but compared to the musicality, it is relatively unimportant to me. A combination would be good, but only if does not take anything away from the musicality. As with others...

Re: TvOS 17.0 with Källa

Yesterday - I started to watch a netflix series my daughter had recommended and played this through apple TV and Kalla . Wow - the sound was just fantastic. Clearly very well recorded compared to the series where i first tried out apple TV / Kalla, and reported back on. It was so good and addictive ...

Re: Superkikkin

I have currently been given Superkikkin 024 to use with the TM3s, whilst my Sagatun Monos have gone on their travels for upgrading. Its a seriously impressive Preamp and is clearly cut from the same cloth as my Giella Pi and Sagatuns. The music remains as addictive and almost as engaging as I have b...

Re: Opinion wanted | Replacing a Kairn for center channel and sub or just improved stereo

One advantage of Sagatun is that you can use the unity gain feature with an AV amp with pre - out facility. The AV amp powers the centre, sub and rear speakers and sends its Left and Right signal via interconnects to the Sagatun and then through to the Left and Right speakers. AV amp controls the vo...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

2 for me - much preferred the Kans. just more musical. If I could find a pristine example - would love to give them a try in my system. Although I would still worry about someone knocking stand mounted speakers off their stands . This is a hangover from when my children were small and I switched to ...

Re: Tundra Mono 3

Here’s another thing I’ve noticed about TM3s in my system. I’ve realised that with well recorded vinyl, the single source input on the Sagatun Monos really does shift the musicality to a significantly higher level. (Can’t wait for the upgrade.) With TM 2.2 - there was definitely a difference, but I ...

Re: A Newbie looking for suggestions

Enjoy the Kalla - you’ve started right at the top with your digital source and your reaction on first hearing it must have been priceless. You probably don’t have to do too much at all , but the recommended set up on the Kalla section of the forum keeps on improving the music - hard to believe but t...

Re: TvOS 17.0 with Källa

Quick question for Apple TV users. How does it output to Kalla ? Is it a wireless connection to my BT mesh unit and then to Kalla. Yes, exactly. Apple TV only needs mains power and then you connect it to your mesh unit through WiFi. Källa will turn up as a speaker and your TV series will be so much...

Re: Good sounding vintage gear - examples

I find that if you have a reasonably musical system, good recordings of almost any style of music is almost always enjoyable. I listen to so many genres of music that I could not list them all, but it ranges from Siouxsie and the Banchees to classical ( european and indian), gregorian chant and medi...

Re: Good sounding vintage gear - examples

I should really recycle some of my gear, but have a very strong attachment to some units. My first Creek was a 4040 from 1984 but it unfortunately lost one channel in 2015 or so and have since relied on the 93' 4041 S2. The Rega P3 ( again 1984) is a work of art in my opinion and will stay in the lo...

Re: Good sounding vintage gear - examples

Creek 4140 is also a great little amp with the right speakers - thanks Spannko for that - and it was unserviced. I have had a Creek 4140 S2 since 1993 and it has been a great little stand in for my Tundra Monos when they have gone for upgrades. I think they would struggle to replace the amazing TM3...

Re: Pre-amplifiers/streamers for my newly acquired Tundra 2.2 Tarandus.

The AK/1 was a good preamp and in a different league to my Kolektor. A huge improvement.

I used it with KDS/1 / LP12 majik and a Tundra stereo and Ninkas/242s - a nice musical system.

I suspect if you can find a good one - you would be quite satisfied.

Brace yourself - and make sure you are sitting down when you first listen to your upgraded system.

And then prepare for the music to get even better, and better as the TM3s settle in.

Re: Tundra Mono 3

Having waxed lyrical about the transformation TM3s have done to my system, I'm still trying to get my head around how a set of power amps can do this much to the music. I have noticed some songs recently in which the bass is easier to listen to in isolation and realise that this aspect has been impr...

Quick question for Apple TV users. How does it output to Kalla ? Is it a wireless connection to my BT mesh unit and then to Kalla. Re: Network Issues (was: Källa loses IP addresses)

Thanks - these minor network issues are like a small stone in ones shoes -they create an inconvenience far greater than the actual discomfort. It was not a big deal to reboot the switch - but knowing that I should not have to be doing this was getting to be more and more infuriating. I suppose we al...

Re: Network Issues (was: Källa loses IP addresses)

Final update (hopefully) on my network issues Everything is working well and after a three days of being away, all my streamers are still on the system. The new 108T v3 seems fine connected by Cat 5 to my router and the Sneaky DS units. So the problem has been two successive Netgear 108T v3 units wh...

So far so good - 308T keeping its connection with Kalla #017 and 108 with Kallla #020. And the 108T v3 working fine with the cat 5 cables to my sneakys. Lets hope this is the end of my network issues. Thanks for all the advice and help - its been very helpful to understand how the routers work and I...

Re: Recommended network components

Thanks That’s good to know I wish I had known before ordering the 108T v3 which seems to be the culprit with Kalla dropping off the network . My 308T is with Kalla #017 ands sounds really good. #020 is linked to an older 108 and so far so good. The errant 108 T had been relegated to serve my Linn sn...

Re: Network Issues (was: Källa loses IP addresses)

Yes - I was thinking along the same lines. If the 108 keeps Kalla #020 on the network and the 308T and #017 hit it off - then a second 308T might be the best option for now. It did work without issues for months with #020. I know my physician ( if I had one) would definitely prescribe this for me on...

Which "Virgin router" do you have - is it the Hub 5? There are quite a few Virgin forum posts about the Hub 5 being poor as a router, with similar DHCP vagaries as you describe, but decent as a modem. You might want to consider investing in a new home router, and leave your Virgin one to modem duti...

Still in the rabbit hole - but mercifully no collateral damage - yet. Changing names didn’t work - but did remind me that it is only the Kalla with firmware v19 which allows this and not the standard v16! Changing the IP addresses to ‘ out of the range of my other devices (. I used .250 and .251) di...
