Re: Random thoughts on hifi

I’ve compared the Walkman Pro to a Dragon and the Revox cassette deck. The Revox had a very precise and accurate sound, neutral and pure - very Germanic. The Nakamichi sounded less stable and not as well defined, in comparison to the Revox. The Sony’s sound was even less well defined than the Nakam...

Re: HAKAI Build Help?

That's interesting, that would be great ,when you have the time thanks. But what was the difference? Here's a couple of examples: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Qteh92G4sYAtH3bQ8 The differences vary considerably, as these illustrate. 1A and 1B I picked out because they really stand out. 2A and 2B I picke...

Re: HAKAI Build Help?

When you say you prefer Peter ,do you mean sound quality is better and if so what's the difference? Yes the sound quality of many of my ripped CDs is poorer than Qobuz. Not all of the them - but it's sufficiently hit and miss that I prefer to go straight to Qobuz. I have a few CDs that aren't avail...

Re: Control Apps

I use bubbleupnp to cast Paradise radio Interesting. How do you do that? I've configured upmpdcli to run a python script that retrieves the FLAC stream and meta data and publish it as an OpenHome Radio channel. BubbleUpnp doesn't list the upmpdcli radio channels. I copy and add URL into bubbleupnp ...

Re: HAKAI Build Help?

Case, motherboard, RAM, DAC and SSDs on order. Select cables later. HW dealt with, SW to follow. Happy with the advice I've read and heard. New motherboard was a steal (and off my radar - thanks FPM). Distillation of sound advice is easy compared to finding out on my lonesome. The Auralic is on the...

Re: Headphone amp?

This is very exciting news. I am expecting my 1st child in the next few months and foresee headphone listening to be my primary source of musical pleasure for the foreseeable future lol. So have been thinking about a decent standalone headphone amp. The one on the Kisto is actually very good but la...

I am sure Fredrik knows.:-)

Edit: BTW, I am happy without remote.

IMO, absolutely OK when possible without sacrificing SQ.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Rumor has it Macca replaced Ringo on drums sometimes. I like Ringo's drumming on Beatles LPs, especially the earlier ones where his timing is great to my ears. I guess he wasn't the most technically proficient though. I'm currently watching this hour long drumming lesson by Yogi Horton as he takes ...

It's highly rated by the site that recommended Sopper's 2K DAC. I'm sceptical of all reviews, I worked for a company who gave junior journalists articles and brown envelopes - I believe that practice is widespread, Yes, I know this site and the measurements. They are a nice by-product. But anyway, ...

Just been out buying a load of cd’s. :-) I never hear a clunk from the transformer in my setup. I hear a click and sometimes a faint hum from the transformer. That is it. Plugging the lk100 into my power strip between two of these using the first in line as power outtake for cd player or Lingo........

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I agree with much of what you say here. But I don't really believe it is possible for anything a Hi-Fi system does to make a poor drummer with a bad set of drums sound like a good drummer with a fine set of drums. I just don't think the aberrations the gear causes can possibly work that way. Indeed...
