Big step from 5103 to Akurate, less but still a fairly big improvement moving from Akurate to Kinos. Steve, I had an Exotik+DA on loan while my 5103 was being repaired. I'm told Exotik+DA = Akurate Kontrol. I was somewhat disappointed with the Exotik - it was roughly on par with the 5103, and in ma...

I've heard 350As in both a 2-channel and 5.1 setup. In both applications they are simply stunning. None of the exaggerated bass that others have reported. They are stunningly revealing and a poor recording, or poor source/control, will be highlighted.

The best of both worlds. To have LP12 and DS. ;) Yes...a substantial investment :) I recently returned a DS after an extended loan and am simply not game to listen to my Uni1.1 anymore. I never did a direct A/B - there was no point. The DS was clearly better. I had just upgraded my LP12 (new mechan...

Anyone here get a chance to hear the DS in a good demo? Over at Topica someone has already taken the plunge, having said it meets or even exceeds a Keel'd LP12. This is of particular interest to me, having just plonked down money on a new LP12, Trampolin 2 and used Ekos, only to find that the availa...

I'd like a cross between the Klimax Kontrol and Exotik. I have no need/concern for video switching, I just want the ultimate audio performance. The Kisto is as close as you can get, but still does video switching - composite/S-Video/component, which is now all but superseded. And a Klimax Linto woul...

Is that right: you've got A345 sub and passive Espek driven by 2250? Maybe next step (of course source first!) could be upgrading to Aktiv? There are many second-hand or dealer ex-demo 2250 amps, so it could cost not so much than buying new chakra amps. Does anybody compared Klimax AV amp (aka 2250...

KC's System

I got bitten by the Linn bug in mid 2000 and eventually jumped in with a then-discontinued Karik, Wakonda and 5105. Espeks followed 2 years later, then a 5103 replaced the Wakonda, and a 2250 was added. As it current stands, the system is: Source Unidisk 1.1 (for DVDs and CDs) LP12 (Lingo, Ittok, Kl...

This sounds vaguely similar to something I'd heard rumored years ago (circa 2000/2001). The replacements for the Genki/Ikemi would have 'Sneaky'-type upgrades allowing them to play DVDs.

I heard it in a Akurate/Akurate Kontrol/Akurate 4200/Ninka system last week. It sounded good - slightly better than my 1.1/5103/2250/Espek system - but I put that down to the pre- and power amps.

FWIW, the ESS227 upgrade for the 1.1 made the 1.1 sound noticeably better than the Akurate.

Bonzo, It's an awesome sub. Blows away the 221, as good as that was. It combines good output levels with great musicality. I did an extensive post on Topica about this, but suffice it to say that this sub simply rocks. Forget about singing along to the tune, you want to dance to it. 2-ch stereo is i...

I wonder whether the reduced Classik prices are Linn's move towards an entry-level? Or will the Majik system spawn a lower-cost entry-level system?

Counting down the sleeps until the 345 arrives

Had a stroke of luck financially and rather than one or two small upgrades I was in a position to consider a large upgrade. 5103 -> Kinos was a bit out of my price range, but I've traded in my Akurate 221 sub on an Artikulate 345. It was a hard decision as I really wanted to either my Espeks go Akti...

Maybe Ivor needs to do what he used to do - get on a plane, fly around the world and talk to their dealers and customers. It's been years since he visited Australia. Unfortunately I didn't get into Linn until shortly after Ivor stopped these visits; he used to visit my dealer and the dealer would or...

Thanks guys. My dealer has (rightly) suggested Keeling my current LP12, as more and more opinions now state that the Keel is the biggest source of improvement. And then when I upgrade to a new LP12, hopefully a subchassis-less version is available. But personally I'd really like to see a new LP12 - ...

Keel an 80s LP12, or get a new LP12?

I have a mid 1980s LP12 (S/N 51xxx) with Ittok, Klyde, pre-Cirkus bearing upgrade, Trampolin and Lingo. I bought it second-hand from my dealer, and it had a FSH. I replaced the Valhalla with a Lingo and the solid BB with the Trampolin after I bought it). I got out of vinyl for a while, partly due to...
