Re: Karousel installation warning

Interesting detail and I'm sure I didn't pay attention to it. If the lower cap is tightened first, there should be no problems fixing the upper cap with the appropriate torque after centering. Not sure about this. Tom has given specific torque settings for both the top and bottom nuts. Holding one ...

Wouldn't that effect the torque on the thrust pad cap!

Re: Adikt upgrade

I currently use RSL MM boards in the Naim 72 which to me were significantly more musical than the older Naim boards.

I had thought about the Slipsik but to be honest there is no place on the rack for it to go.

Adikt upgrade

I have been using an Adikt for about 10 years now and with the introduction of the Koil I am wondering if it is time for a change. I don’t want to change for change sake but if there is likely to be a musical improvement I will bite the bullet and make the move. Considerations: I moved from a Dynave...

Re: Solder vs crimped

Having thought about it, it is probably best not to tamper with the T-Kable. Fitting a BNC plug to a standard coax cable is relatrively easy but the T-Kable is not a coax cable. Plus I could never replicate the quality of the soldering. Looks like I am left with two choices: 1. Leave well alone and ...

Solder vs crimped

I am looking to change my arm lead plugs (T-Kable) from phono to BNC as the pre is a Naim 72.

Which is a better solution crimped plugs or soldered? If soldered which type of solder?

Is there a preferred brand of BNC plug?

Thanks

SRA

Which is the right way to measure stylus rake angle and does it matter? I ask because I was watching an Ortofon You Tube video on cartridge setup and noticed their way of measuring SRA appears different to others I have seen. Still going to be on the lookout for a cheaper alternative. How does the Adikt compare to the Goldring 1012? Any other recommendations?

Re: Linn Adikt 3

One reason I decided on the Adikt after using a Dynavector DV20 was the low(ish) running cost. Now the replacement costs are getting pretty close! I am now wondering whether a Goldring 1012 would be a realistic option. I know the Adikt is based on it but I don't know how close they are. I have seen ...

Linn Adikt 3

Just looked at this years Linn price list and I see that the Adikt has gone up by 33% from £430 to £574 and the stylus from £220 to £294. I understand that it is now designated Adikt/3 and the lugs have gone. Is that the only change or are there other improvements that justify the big increase?

Re: Arm cable dressing

Thanks Tom Just what I was after. I had originally set it up as per picture 2 with the cable doubled back after the p-clip but found putting the trampolin on after setting up for a perfect bounce sometimes put pressure on the exiting arm cable causing the armboard to move. With picture 1 there was n...

Arm cable dressing

I came across these two pictures on Linn dealers websites showing two different ways to dress an arm cable. Which is the optimum way? does it make any difference as long as the cable to the p-clip is straight and doesn't impede the suspension? I currently have mine flat into the new p-clip as per "a...

Hi

If you do a search for 'torque' with the author as 'ThomasOK' you should find most the of the torque settings you need.

For the P-Clip try Stoneaudio

Defender "mmh and I thought you should not clean them" I thought the same. I had a lovely silent bounce then swapped the springs for the new ones that came with the karousel. Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

"I did check the bass units and they return to position smoothly and slightly slowly when pushed in and let go" That is a useful test to check if the seals are intact but that is rarely a problem. Unfortunately it doesn't test the the spike interface. This is a very important part of the correct ope...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

My Naim stuff is all pretty much JV era and serviced. Never had any recent gear at home, only heard at Shows so can't really tell how they compare. You mentioned about dealer setup earlier. Did they setup your SBLs at home? Just came across this comment by JV: "SBLs should be sited, leveled, and the...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Clear preference for the Lingo 1 deck Charlie. The thing with SBL's is that in many ways they are like the LP12, setup is everything. I have had Kans, Keliedhs and now SBLs. Setup properly SBLs are very good. Like Linn, Naim's instructions were that bolts and spikes should be 'very tight' - not so, ...

Thanks everyone. I placed the order order yesterday with my dealer for a silver T cable and naim adaptor. T Cable

I currently use an Audio Origami tonearm cable and I am toying with the idea of changing it to a Linn cable. If so which one, T cable or Magik cable? One of the reasons I have kept the Audio Origami is that it has BNC plugs so if I changed it I would need to use Phono/BNC adapters. I had the view th...

Re: Karousel

Mine was one of the first Karousels and didn't have any plug or cap supplied. I have seen one shaped like a cone on the latest Linncast youtube video. Is this the latest one or has it been replaced?

I am happy to have a go at torqueing the base nut but just how important is getting this one right?
