Re: Playtime is over, time for some serious questions!

One question more: What is going on with my LK100? Why does it give me two fixed volume settings(full blast and "half" blast), and can this be used to make and even better preamp with let's say 4 fixed volume settings?

Re: Playtime is over, time for some serious questions!

Thank you for the answer. It is definately a more refined sound I am getting now so let's see how long I can live with only two fixed volume settings.

Playtime is over, time for some serious questions!

The stones are gone and all this playing around made me think: how could I solve my placement problem. Well, Linn has stopped making analog preamps so should I stop using my Pretek? Now my hifi chain is Sondek, Linto, LK100 into Espeks. And funny enough it sounds great. Quite similar to the sound go...

Re: Looking for new "spacers".

Well, my stand is a funny thing so I just listen each time I make a change. The real heavy stone at the bottom of the picture is placed inside my metal stand as my lowest shelf. As I am in the proces of running in my Klyde I can have made a mistake with this latest change but what is certain is that...

Re: Looking for new "spacers".

No thanks. No digital volume control for me! :-)

Next step will be Lejonklou if my guess is right.

I have listened to Linns new offerings and they are not to my liking. My modified setup serves me well.

Looking for new "spacers".

As you can see when looking at my system setup I am using a homemade rack tweaked to give me the sound I like. I now find myself in a situation where I miss the Kairn and 2250 I sold because I want them to make space between my preamp and my amp as well as being a steady platform for my amp. It just...

Re: I'm sad and glad!

Thank you. Just a lucky punch with my little canon camera. I will report back on how the Klyde performs when fully run in.

Now using my new Klyde and with a lot less noise than from the old one. Still not fully run in but sounding great.

Re: I'm sad and glad!

We have focus on different aspects and that is alright by me. I find music in entry level analog Linn (be it Linn Basik or Axis), not in entry level digital Linn (be it Sneaky/109 or Majik DSM/140).
We do not have to agree. What is important is to know what to listen for to please your own ears.

Re: I'm sad and glad!

Oh, I forgot! It has nothing to do with how the music has been recorded and what it is played through (or on if it is vinyl)?! Ok, I do know that this new "tale" is an attempt to tell us that the recording is being delivered "unaltered" to the speakers! But is it? Seriously, I do feel that something...

I just sat and listened. Maybe the salesman wanted to impress me or maybe he just wanted to try something different. I do not know.

Re: I'm sad and glad!

Regarding the Klyde it is still too early to say but I do think the later B version has a more smooth presentation as well as old Linn traits. Regarding The Majik DSM I hear it like this. Take old analog Linn sound and hire a cleaning company to clean the "room" to the point where everything can be ...

I'm sad and glad!

Drove to my hifi dealer today to collect my new Klyde B serial number 64xx (my old one was 19xx). Had a nice talk with the salesman and listened to the new Majik DSM with Majik 140 speakers and later the same Majik DSM in Exact mode with Akubariks. I'm glad to get my new Klyde. I'm sad because this ...

Re: Tightening Linn Silvers

Thank you.

I only have this one pair and have never compared it to other pairs. I use it between the linto and my preamp and it works well. They look dealer made to me or?

Re: New cartridge needed!

Just an update. I have made the safe bet by ordering a new Klyde. I just love the way it plays music. I have used a lot of time on the www reading about many different cartridges and been speculating a lot but in the end it just boils down to me not even stopping listening to my records with a worn ...

Re: Boring hifi forbidden!

If the Lejonklou preamp is as good as I can read it would by replacing the preamp in the Sneaky make a big difference for sure.

Re: Boring hifi forbidden!

Let me put it like this: with analog recordings it is easy for me through my system to recognise when someone is not quite in tune (as when musicians live do not play at quite the exact pitch to be in tune with each other). When digital gets involved it becomes much more difficult for me to hear, be...

Re: Boring hifi forbidden!

That is a wise choice and what I have been doing for many years before it finally came to me when I tried to upgrade my system. The recordings we listen to are just as different and "flawed" as the systems we can find in the shops and this makes it even more difficult to recognise. So just keep on e...

Re: Boring hifi forbidden!

Yes, I'm not on a crusade against new Linn or digital. I am just looking foreward to me listening to a digital based system that really satisfies me :-) And now a little test: Take your copy of The Beatles Mono Masters. Listen to the first 2 or 3 tracks on side one. If you notice something different...

Re: Boring hifi forbidden!

Back to the subject: I had a listen at my friends house to his Sneaky, Majik 109 system and lovely detailed it was. Listened for two hours also on vinyl with a Project record player. All sounding very nice but I never got involved in the music being played and when I came home I noticed a clear diff...
