Re: More Tune Method Talk...

Luckily, I have known all along that this is not for me. That is why I can live happily with a “low-fi” system. :-)

Re: More Tune Method Talk...

Thank you Charlie1, Lejonklou, Spannko and John for this open and interesting discussion. Discussions like these makes it all worth while following this forum to me. Why can I happily live with a system most people here think is kind of rubbish? I cannot explain it other than with how I react when l...

I also prefer x2 over y2
Yes, that is correct. :-)

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

That's helpful actually. I'm guessing X2 is your previous setup and Y2 is something new. Y2 defo does the Hi-Fi stuff better and is more impactful, perhaps more compelling as well. For me, X2 might have a slight timing edge in terms of bringing the music together but personally I'd live with Y2 for...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

I'm not sure. They seem very close to my ears. I enjoyed X a little more to begin with but at around 30 secs, I started to slightly prefer Y. So I'm on the fence. I think the most enjoyable music I've heard from a CD clip and really good for digital of any kind. Here is a second set to compare. X2)...

Re: JBL 308P and 708P

To me hifi is like tuning a piano. You can do it in many different ways ending up with many different results. None of them are perfect. That is why in the end we have to make a very personal decision. I hope your choice charlie1 will make you happy. If not, we will still be here ready for new clips...

Re: Play Loud!

I like both but enjoy playing loud because it gives my body a good “shake” as well as playing the music. To me “loud” gives more to the experience than just dreaming away on the sofa while the music play’s softly in the background. :-)

Re: JBL 308P and 708P

24 hours with the 308s and they are growing on me. Immediately missed the timing of Linn speakers but they are so neutral and refined across so many genres and eras of vinyl production and recording technology that's its hard not to like their amiable nature and ability to get out of the way. But I...

For now I prefer your “old” setup (A2, B2 and C2). The new setup makes me listen more for sound than music.

Re: More Tune Method Talk...

We have to accept that perfect is not an option. If perfect had been found there would not be so many takes on hifi. That is why the playground is important. We get to hear many different takes on reproduced recordings. We get to hear that when you gain something you often loose something else. To m...
