Re: Karousel

Did both songs just happen to be airy, ethereal pieces, or is that something in the recording process? Either way, it's clear that the Karousel presents far more of the music & performance(s). In contrast the Cirkus sounds blurred & echoey, like there's extra ringing to the piano, hence why I asked ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

P.S. Size meters or ... :-))) I think music matters more ;) I am jumping between Option 1 and 2 and still think Option 2 is better but it makes me curious if Charlie and Beck prefer the other Option 2 is a bit leading-edge, snappy for me listening on phone and again on laptop. I find it a bit too m...

I’m sorry, ‘troll. I did look for something from Linn but found nothing so far on consumer or dealer websites. Considering the tone earlier in the thread I just couldn’t resist the perfect setup! :-) No harm intended. None taken, Tom. 😎 ‘troll Way to 'roll with it 'troll :) You know Tom is never go...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

.. I briefly tried listening to the first two clips with the Rega but after five seconds each of being shouted at gave it up. Glad it wasn't just me - just thought it was my regular reaction to amplification that must not be Naim'd... Warming to the 160 tho' (but would still prefer to hear a Tundra...

Re: Karousel

Thanks Tom - most informative. Surprised you didn't post the link to part 2 of the discussion: https://youtu.be/PGNiXGX2nLU - it really adds a new spin to the beloved old fruit box that is the LP12 and explains why the existing Klimax sounds dead in comparison; the Karousel so much more alive.

Re: Karousel

I understand your point El - since the origins seem to be trustworthy tho', I read it in the spirit of one genuinely surprised by how much difference it made to an Akurate level LP12 against Klimax level as a reference... And imagine what new heights of Klimax a Karousel will take you to if that's t...

Re: Spotify on Hakai? (wired; headless)

Well, there are 2 options for spotifyd - guess who chose the 'wrong' one. Do not bother with snapcraft.io; snapd/spotifyd :/ Third time is a charm! If you want Spotify on Hakai (Debian) go to https://github.com/Spotifyd/spotifyd and work through the steps*... All I've done so far is unpack the slim ...

Re: Spotify on Hakai? (wired; headless)

I had wrongly stated Mopidy in another thread but it should be 'spotifyd'. https://github.com/Spotifyd/spotifyd I have it setup so that HAKAI appears as a source/player in the Spotify app. Works perfectly! Many thanks jewa - just wrapping up removal of mopidy & mopidy-spotify (the autoremove --purg...

Spotify on Hakai? (wired; headless)

(running headless Hakai on Debian, no desktop; connected over LAN) Has anyone installed any Spotify client on their Hakai, and found a way to control it remotely, from WiFi to LAN? I got mopidy-spotify installed and it connects to Spotify, as I can see my playlist, but I can't figure a way to contro...

Re: Multiple Color Linn Plinths:

I'd have thought that Linn are offering these plinths primarily to those customers who are not even going to think to ask such questions ;) Is any musical difference from the wood or the paint going to be more of an impact to you than the positive influence (& potential domestic harmony) of enjoying...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Great to hear a new system tokenbrit! :-) Not easy as there is not much for me to hang my hat on. The emotion in her voice? The singing violin? The natural sound from a drum kit? The interplay between the musicians? ;-) I go with defender and charlie1. B Thanks for the feedback. If you don't mind, ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Something about A in the first track gives the initial impression of better timing, especially the drumming. However, I agree with Defender that, ultimately, B is making more sense of the music. Sounds good tokenbrit. My only criticism is that your TV is too small. Am I right in thinking you have S...

Thanks for the review - good to confirm what we heard via ThomasOK's clips... Not sure where to post this, so adding to this thread: has anyone tried these power cords on digital equipment, such as DS, Hakai, or (LS/Hakai) NAS? I know I can try for myself, especially since Tom sent me some cords but...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Prefer 1.2 and 1.4+2 over 0.8 and 1.0, but struggling to pick a winner... Percussion is a bit insistent on the clips, and I feel like 1.2 is a little easier to get on with in that regard, but still liking 1.4+2... Just not sure if it might be too much (of a good thing) The fence is getting a little ...

Slight preference for 0.8 myself, but have to say I'm struggling to decide with this track... Also, what happened to your favorite value around 1.4 for comparison?
