Re: AT-VM95C Q&A

.. I'm so happy with the way the K9/conical sounds that I'm not feeling the need to change anything. It sounds great and better than any set-up I had on my LP12. Better than the Ittok/Troika, better than the modified RB300/OC9. There isn't a down side, it's just plain better in every way. Delighted...

Re: The Mighty AT95E Becomes The AT-VM95E

Here is a man with some interesting thoughts on the subject: https://youtu.be/WmwnN_T_wW8 Listening only from 46 minutes to 48 you get an example that might support the thought that it is not so much about the tracking force, more about how the needle of a certain cartridge behave in the groove. It...

Re: Recommended tool for 242 3 k array torque settings

I’m reliably informed that this is the best torque driver one can buy https://www.sheldonbrown.com/tork-grip.html . I have both left and right handed versions, to cope with those tricky tight spaces. That may be OK if you're a Monkee *, but my speakers have Torx head screws on them, not "Tork", so ...

Here’s a couple of sets of recordings of the 3k array torqued to 0.55Nm or 0.90Nm in no particular order...
Did you mean "0.90Nm" or was that a typo since it's labelled as 0.80Nm on Dropbox

Fwiw, I'm for A too.

Re: Bi-amp question?

Been there; done that with a 4200: more impressive sound-wise, but musically inferior bi-amping... There are 2-3 issues bi-amping with a 4200 that may or not concern you. 1. not all 4 channels are created equal - figure the best 2 for treble L&R; use the other 2 for bass... 2. to do that requires ex...

Re: a bit of fun

Nice - what speakers would you use? Released in '97, the CD12 design must have been quite a shock compared to LK and AV boxes of the day. Speakers? I don't know that I heard anything in the late 90s that wow'd me, so would have to time-machine back, and audition speakers with the system... Not sure...

Re: Musical Streaming Services

Spotify premium Family package is really good value - we would have five people using this for £15 a month. Agreed. That's what we went with here for a variety of reasons... $15/month here for the pair of us and has the integration & library, with more than acceptable musicality, to make it great v...

Time for an update... These are strange times, and being in lockdown on my own means that music is more important than ever. I'm particularly grateful for all the work and experimentation which has gone into Hakai. I finally got mine singing, really singing... Strange times indeed. Congratulations ...

Re: any suggestions for replacement terminal links for MAjik 140

Without the terminal links I’m only able to plug into one driver and listening music that way. Is it worthwhile to try jumper cables in the meantime while I get the original links. Anyone have tried these and is there any sonic advantage ? Not with Majik 140, but I can try to get you clips of origi...

The piano, especially, seems to love the Karousel... or maybe it's the other way round - either way, in concerto, it is not A Minor improvement :)

Do these torque figures only apply to the 242 3k array, more generally to Linn arrays, or any more widely to tweeters of other brands?

Re: Karousel

Did both songs just happen to be airy, ethereal pieces, or is that something in the recording process? Either way, it's clear that the Karousel presents far more of the music & performance(s). In contrast the Cirkus sounds blurred & echoey, like there's extra ringing to the piano, hence why I asked ...

Re: Karousel

Thanks Tom - most informative. Surprised you didn't post the link to part 2 of the discussion: https://youtu.be/PGNiXGX2nLU - it really adds a new spin to the beloved old fruit box that is the LP12 and explains why the existing Klimax sounds dead in comparison; the Karousel so much more alive.

I understand your point El - since the origins seem to be trustworthy tho', I read it in the spirit of one genuinely surprised by how much difference it made to an Akurate level LP12 against Klimax level as a reference... And imagine what new heights of Klimax a Karousel will take you to if that's t...
