I agree and to follow my own logic above hearing the recording limitations includes the imprint (distortion) of the microphones and amps used.
But how do you know that it's recording distortion you're hearing, and not playback distortion? 🤔

Thanks kallesprätt. I appreciate the clarification(s)

I need to get a second 320 SSD to try Volumio as I don't want to overwrite my Debian Buster / MPD 21.11 install (just yet ;)

Re: Windows 10 music server stoppages

Good to know - glad it's more stable. I still need to find a spare drive to try Volumio against upmpdcli/mpd on Buster - don't want to lose mpd 21.11… After that I can worry about the NAS and network share vs. media server, as well as Buster vs. Win 10

Re: Windows 10 music server stoppages

If you are using control points, I figure you are using a media server on the (LS)NAS rather than letting Volumio connect via a network file share... If so, what media server did you use on Debian, and which one are you using on Win10: Asset, MinimServer, other? I've seen that Simon @ MinimServer is...

Re: Windows 10 music server stoppages

Since you've checked Win settings, have you checked the BIOS to see if there's anything in those settings that might cause the stoppages; maybe energy saving or disk management? Alternatively, have you tried different media server software to try to eliminate possible causes?

Thanks for sharing, FJ. Hopefully you won't mind me asking some questions: How do you get a copy of the "original version of Volumio that was recommended"? I only see version 2.799 on volumio.org Are you running volumio on the recommended Hakai hardware, so the PC (X86/X64 image), or some other hard...

Re: Linux Kernels

Thanks Fredrik. Linux Kernels

Those of you running Debian (Buster) / Hakai, do you update / upgrade your OS regularly? If so, have you installed the latest kernel? Or do you leave well alone if it works? Curious if you've upgraded and noticed a change in musicality for better or worse... Those using SnakeOil presumably get updat...

Re: The Mighty AT95E Becomes The AT-VM95E

Here is a man with some interesting thoughts on the subject: https://youtu.be/WmwnN_T_wW8 Listening only from 46 minutes to 48 you get an example that might support the thought that it is not so much about the tracking force, more about how the needle of a certain cartridge behave in the groove. It...

I’m reliably informed that this is the best torque driver one can buy https://www.sheldonbrown.com/tork-grip.html . I have both left and right handed versions, to cope with those tricky tight spaces. That may be OK if you're a Monkee *, but my speakers have Torx head screws on them, not "Tork", so ...

Been there; done that with a 4200: more impressive sound-wise, but musically inferior bi-amping... There are 2-3 issues bi-amping with a 4200 that may or not concern you. 1. not all 4 channels are created equal - figure the best 2 for treble L&R; use the other 2 for bass... 2. to do that requires ex...

Nice - what speakers would you use? Released in '97, the CD12 design must have been quite a shock compared to LK and AV boxes of the day. Speakers? I don't know that I heard anything in the late 90s that wow'd me, so would have to time-machine back, and audition speakers with the system... Not sure...
