GnT - hadn't had one when I was listening earlier, though. Maybe that was the problem.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I agree with tokenbrit’s description and will personally choose clip 1 in the end. I think tokenbrit’s struggling to even agree with himself at the moment beck, but I’m sure we’ll all choose clip one in the end! Sorry tokenbrit, only joking ;-) No apology needed. Actually, I was struggling more wit...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Do get a slightly different vibe listening on the phone... Netgear PS is fun, but more interest in the Friwo.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Cheers for posting - just listening now... First impressions (via desktop speakers): good boogie to the Netgear ps; more to the song & better individual musicianship with the Friwo, but with a little less bop. Need to listen on the phone to see if I get a different vibe.

Re: HAKAI NAS

What interface are you using for the different SSDs? Speculation on my part, but if that interface isn't directly to the sata ports on the mobo, maybe it's not allowing musical differences between SSDs to show through... It would be good to get a better understanding of what is going on especially s...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Thanks for your thoughts chaps. I agree, the GS108T directly into the DS is the most enjoyable, which is in total contrast to what is being written on nearly every HiFi forum, where the consensus is that doubling up on Ethernet switches always produces an improvement. I also agree that the Melco do...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Never as straightforward with 3... For me it was 1 (GS108T) or 2 (Melco) each better than 3 (GS108T+Melco), so I focused on 1 v 2, only going back to 3 to understand the difference(s) between 1 & 2. With this song, to these ears, I thought 1 was better: more harmonious, giving me a stronger connecti...

Re: Entity MC

I'd be very interested to hear a repeat of the comparison between the store demo walnut LP12 and your movingui plinthed deck again, but with an Entity... That said, I have to admit: my CFO, and bank balance, are hoping that the first 3 production Entity MCs in North America are already spoken for......

Re: The Mighty AT95E Becomes The AT-VM95E

I'm a bit late to the party but to me the 2nd clip sounded like a playful pillow fight with attitude, whereas the 1st was a smothering pillow with a brick in it... Ridiculous difference. Seems like I need me some of them new fangled alumin(i)um screws for my AT-OC9 (& an Entity MC) for Xmas.

Re: Cobra Dave’s system

Obvious to me, given stated desire to keep your Axis for a couple of years yet, would be the phono stage, probably Slipsik in readiness, with a new VM95 stylus as a maintenance item. Otherwise keep enjoying the music, and saving for that LP12 when you're ready to upgrade from the Axis ;) Find the ri...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I wasn't keen on the Fazioli either, but the pianist certainly liked it... Watching & listening on the tv I thought the Steinway sounded just a little delicate; I preferred the weight of the Bösendorfer - thankfully nothing like Bose. Nice to have options, if not both Steinway & Bösendorfer for diff...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Shouldn't that be like speakers: the other grands should rolled out of the room so they don't resonate and influence each other in room? Critically speaking, each grand should be assessed in the same position, surely ... or they should each be tune-dem'd into their individual optimum position :D

What would we say of .. Evelyn Glennie? Where does their appreciation of music come from? Thanks for mentioning Evelyn... 1 step forwarDS; 2 steps Akubarik... :/ It's good that Linn reintroduced the DSs, especially if that leads to new Renews... I really hope they don't even think about considering limiting new LP12s to those with Urika 2, but I am surprised by the decision to drop their passive speakers. It seems like...
