Re: Place the electronics in a separate room

I’ve been aware of the benefits of doing so for many years. I have a multi room system where my turntable and amps are in my basement with two systems upstairs fed from the two tape outputs on my preamp. My living room system which is on a suspended wood floor has just a pair of speakers and a Sonos...

Yes, that’s an Exposure 15. Had that setup running from 1992 to 2008. Now using the same amp with Tannoy DMT 15’s. The Quads are in storage.

Interesting reading about old Quads. Here’s a picture of my room from several years ago when I had them setup in my main system.

Re: Cartridge rebuild

I have used Linn cartridges since 1984. The last new one I purchased was in the early 90’s when the Klyde came out. Linn had a rebuild scheme going for a few years that they discontinued and then restarted a number of years later. Under that program the old cartridge body was swapped for a rebuilt v...

Re: Tramp 2 vs no base

I’ve experimented quite a bit with SO, Audiotech, Archidee dedicated supports, Audiotech and Mana wall shelfs and Mana amp rack with Soundstages and a Mini table. My most memorable moves were removing the Trampolin, moving the LP12 away from a suspended wood floor and studded wall shelf to a solid p...

I am also rather fond of Even in the Quietest Moments. Which LP version would you buy? https://www.discogs.com/Supertramp-Even-In-The-Quietest-Moments/master/25381 I had it only on CD. On vinyl I have also Breakfast in America, but I do not rate it high. Thanks M. That’s interesting about BiA, I al...

Re: Great Jazz Recordings

Hello, why choose when you can have both. Playboys - One of the really classic jazz albums with Chet Baker and Art Pepper together. Best regards from a new member. Great Suggestion, just bought that album a month ago. It was retitled “Picture of Heath”. My copy is a Pure Pleasure reissue and it is ...

If you don’t know the album, I’d certainly recommend checking it out.
Too mellow for me, put me asleep. Check out later Art Pepper, preferably his live stuff.

Your taste in music is inspiring, Matteo. None of the snobbism that appears common among record collectors. Chicago... I haven't listened to them in at least a decade, maybe two, and I don't own a single album. I think I might get me one this weekend! Thanks Fredrik The Chicago discografy is huge. ...

Yes, and a before/after needle drop using that poorly mastered album will be easier to judge musical differences than a before/after iPhone recording of the same album.

Re: Tiger Paw Tranquility

It's a shame folks on this site have no interest in providing quality needle drop comparisons and instead have enthusiasm for poor sounding recordings made from phones and tablets. There is a specific reason for our enthusiasm for the "poor sounding recordings": Their sole purpose is a comparison a...

Re: Tiger Paw Tranquility

I'm a big proponent of using needle drops for evaluating before and after changes to an LP12, especially in cases where the change from one to another can take several minutes. I find the recordings result in a much better and easier chance of making a confident conclusion. One can easily make the ...

Re: Tiger Paw Tranquility

I did some careful listening to the clips via Apple AirPlay through a couple of my systems listening to the first 30 seconds of one clip a few times before switching over to the other and found I preferred the non-Tranquility version better. The Tranquility version seemed to mess with the natural fl...

Re: Boogie Factor

Some people prefer Valhalla LP12 to later versions, or Kan 1s to Kan 2s, often quoting that something was lost in later versions, the original had more boogie etc. I have a feeling I may have picked up on what they deem so important, although I'm not sure. My Ninkas were able to really boogie on so...

Re: Why so few US Linn (and Lejonklou) dealers?

Well it looks like today there are 35 Linn dealers in the US, back in 1985 there were twice as many when Audiophile Systems was the US importer of Linn and Naim. Some loss may have been due to the split off of Linn and Naim and then the new requirements Linn began to impose on their dealers regardin...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

This one was frustrating for me: last night initial pass on laptop speakers suggested the first link was better, but the laptop doesn't go loud, so I switched to headphones then thought the second was better... Then, this morning, I tried again on the desktop but that was choppy. All of these were ...

Thomas,

The old SO stands I have with the welded bottom spikes are 14 inches tall. I'd offer you mine but one is a printer stand in our bedroom and the other one is a side table in our 3 season porch.

Re: Playground for practical exercises in Tune Dem

These "live" recordings I assume made with an iPhone mic really sound pretty bad. It makes more sense to take a line out from the preamp or phono stage and capture the sound that way, especially when comparing changes that lend themselves to doing so. Tune Dem is about the "live" sound in your room...
