Re: Lejonklou and Harbeth?

Today they publish technical nonsense when trying to convince us what is better. Technical white papers like this from Linn are hardly common (I'm only aware of this one, Chakra, and probably one about Exakt. Are there more? Chakra must be fifteen years ago by now..), nor are they exactly pushing t...

Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions

Different speaker designs have this problem(*) to a different degree. Some try to combat it by physically shifting the elements (see for example PMC's designs that "lean backwards"), but from what I've read the problem is fundamentally unavoidable in an analog design. This is not why speaker design...

Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions

Higher frequencies travels faster. Wikipedia suggests you are sort of technically correct, but seem to be exaggerating the effect: The dependence on frequency and pressure are normally insignificant in practical applications. In dry air, the speed of sound increases by about 0.1 m/s as the frequenc...

Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions

Neil tried passive using organik and preferred it. Correct Anthony Right, I see it now. The section called " NEXT GENERATION KLIMAX DSM AS A SYSTEM HUB IN A MORE TRADITIONAL SYSTEM " compares two different passive configurations - one of which uses the full NGKDSM. I got a bit distracted by the cle...

Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions

My ramblings after listen to KDSM/3 http://audiophilemusings.blogspot.com/2021/05/product-review-linns-next-generation.html?m=1 Thanks, an enjoyable and informative read (I had no idea you could do that "full range pass through" with Exakt boxes), but I'm confused by one thing.. did you actually no...

Re: Källa overview

I am assuming that my KDS And sneakys work in a similar fashion to Kalla with the control point . No, the Linn DS typically works in the UPnP/Spotify Connect way that springwood64 explained above, where the control point just tells the DS what resource to play, and the DS downloads it. After giving...

Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions

FWIW, the Pablo version (black cover) is the one I listened to too (not sure how I convinced myself it was a concert album, I must have misread). Unfortunately, I don't have the vinyl. It would have been interesting to compare them.

Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions

Teatime, I would more than welcome anyone that has a streaming setup to check if they do experiance the same flaws in the Ellington recording. I do certainly have the same flaws on both the Qobuz and Spotify version of the same recording, disjointed and unpleasant. Since this is not about soundstag...

Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions

Wow, I still don't get it. I understand that data being transferred is always clocked. This is fundamental to the transfer of digital information. But this is a different time domain from the audio processing. Do we need to worry about anything before the last time the data was "at rest"? (and if w...

Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions

I find that static data is relatively stable and exact. I say relatively, because there are some really strange things that can happen when storing still bit perfect musical data, but these effects are minor, so let's ignore them for the moment. The source in a digital replay system is where the da...

Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions

I almost feel a bit guilty driving the hype train, but I can only say what it felt like listening to it. It didn't feel like an incremental improvement, it felt fundamental. I have no idea how or why. Amusingly, I mostly played vinyl through it, which also means streaming source and network setup is...

Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions

Ok, so I've finally heard it. I was at Tonläget Hifi today, for a tuneup of my LP12. I got to hear the Klimax 350 Exakt (Katalyst) system with the new Klimax DSM Organik used as Exakt hub with a full spec LP12 connected via Exakt. It sounded great. Tight. Fluid. Tuneful. I would love to have this sy...

Re: Recommended control points

Ok.. I actually have one myself. Not an "explanation", but at least an actual difference between DHCP and fixed IP: There needs to be something on the system to keep track of the lease time and trigger a new negotiation. Older Linux distributions (which is what I assume the Tinkerboard part of Käll...

Re: Recommended control points

Yes, that is how it's supposed to work. Still, assigning Källa with a fixed IP address instead of DHCP removes a small but easily heard "digital signature" in the music. Not once every 12 hours but all the time. Do you have any explanation for how this can possibly be? It seems to defy understandin...

Re: Recommended control points

Taking the hifi part of the network out of the DHCP range reduces the tireless pinging that goes on with constant address allocation and confirmation. A noisy process. Fixing addresses also helps. Helps what? And how? DHCP: Client: Can anyone give me an IP address? Server: Sure, I can. Client: Cool...

IIUC, Apple and Airplay capable.

Re: Four years in the making

If that’s the case, what happens if Apple releases a new OS that prevents unlicensed users from accessing Airplay? As I understand it, it would be technically impossible without also dropping compatibility with all the Airport Express devices that have the exposed private key in their firmware. But...

Re: Källa As A Streamer

Streaming is obviously the future. Yes, this is hard to argue against. Personally, I play vinyl or stream. My thousands of ripped CDs on the NAS almost never get a spin these days. But the downside to streaming only is obvious. Music that used to be available on your service disappears (several hig...

Re: Four years in the making

A little summary is that the Källa is a single box streamer/DAC that uses the proprietary Lejonklou Protokoll for sending the music to it that requires an Apple device. This is rather strangely put, and, I suspect, borders on the incorrect. Until Fredrik (or someone else who knows) sets the record ...

Re: Källa As A Streamer

I would expect any device that can access files on a NAS and output sound via AirPlay to work for this usecase. Maybe Apple doesn't want your phone to be able to do it, but surely a regular macbook or similar device would?

Re: Source Files: What's on your wishlist for Kalla?

One less Apple. I, for one, am never going to buy one, if I can avoid it. The Qobuz app is not Apple too. Matt No.. I might have jumped to conclusions here. I assumed the Qobus app to only be able to do AirPlay on an Apple device, but that Audinirvana, apparently being a cross platform solution (I'...
