Re: Giella headphone amp

I've been looking for a Kikkin preamp for my office setup for some time and was curious to see if my Grado RA1 headphone amp could be bettered. Giella seemed promising in both these categories, so I was quick to order one. I got it a few days before the holidays, and have had some time to play with ...

Re: Giella headphone amp

Not to comment further on the aesthetics, I just wish to point out that I was objecting to it purely on aesthetic grounds, I'm not looking for a "cheaper option".

And if the hiphop-stars of the world want a Giella amp, I see nothing wrong with that! :D

Re: Giella headphone amp

Congratulations on what I'm sure is another knockout product, Fredrik. I cannot wait to hear it! Now, on the knob front.. Is there any chance you would consider a rock-less option? No diamond (fake or not) - just a smooth indentation as indicator? No offense to you or your mother intended, but I fin...

Shall we interpret the lack of a more formal announcement as Giella still being some ways off? Do you expect to have it shipping this year? I have to admit to being quite excited! :)

Re: Hakai with Intel SSD320 120GB Vs 300GB

I don't trust myself to not be affected by other people's results, so I did it blindly. I played one three times, then switched. Played the other one twice and decided it was worse. Then checked the urls.

Turns out I prefer the second one as well. Hmm.

Re: SSD more musical than HDD!

Nothing comes close to the Intel series. While I don't entirely distrust the results (I've never tried the Intel disks myself), after all this time, I do wish someone could come up with some sort of explanation for this, or at least a hypothesis. What could it possibly be? Are they unusually well s...

Re: Cables

I just wanted to report that I recently bought a Supra USB cable (1 m A to mini B) for a newly built HAKAI and it immediately shorted the USB power so that the HAKAI went down and the DAC made a stuttering sound from the power supply protection switching on and off. Dangerous! It could have permane...

Re: GIGAPORT HD/HD+

I don’t know if this issue have been solved all reddy. Just played one of the few 24/96 and both Volumio and Kazoo say “24/96”. Latest Volumio installed. I think it's just showing the rates of the source material, not what it sends to the DAC. If I play a 192/24 FLAC, Volumio merrily displays that ...

I'd bring my Bose NC700 as a reference and they say they're ready for some combat. I recently compared with my three OLD (even close to ancient) favorite AKG's (550, K24P and K420). Oh my, things have improved in 10+ years. They're so far behind that it's hard to comprehend. Hang on, I gotta check ...
