Re: Measuring my speakers..... ugggh! Why did I ever do it?

Your ears are many orders of magnitude more sensitive than a microphone. Your brain is far more capable of interpreting the data fed to it by your ears than it is at deciphering a squiggly line on a graph. Forget the measurements, trust your ears. Consider the "Playground" thread on this forum. Sixt...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I'm a bit late to the party but it's been a while since I've been close to a computer for any significant period of time. I listened to Thomas' latest clips before reading the replies and found the conclusions really fascinating. After listening to the first clip twice through it wasn't until the se...

Re: Latest records to enter your collection

Gold, silver, and bronze stars to tokenbrit! Wyndham Hill was a studio that produced mainly what Fredrik would call "audiophile recordings." They put more emphasis on the sound and the recording process than they did the content. Case in point: the Sampler '82 was a compilation of some of the first ...

Re: Absolute Bargains!

I agree with Ron that external DACs plugged into my MBP do not improve the music compared to the computer's analog output. I've tried this with a Fostex headphone amp/DAC, a HeadRoom headphone amp/DAC, and the ESI. In all cases the musical performance was superior via the analog output. I haven't tr...

Incidentally, I think I've found a way to combine the benefits of all my Linn speakers... https://www.dropbox.com/s/y4g6mmm7kdat10n/Speaker%20Heaven.png?dl=0 LOL. Wow! Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

It seems like the Hiq's might do a better job of tweeting than the 'speaks, but they don't integrate into the Kans as well. On the Hiq clips I hear a woofer and a tweeter. On the 'speak tracks I hear music.

I prefer the second clip in both this and your previous post. Out of all 4 I think the second clip in your previous post is the best.

For me, Nait and Katans.
Agreed. It's amazing what a day can do. I wasn't too keen on the Katans yesterday but in these clips they really sing.

Although I do have to say one set of recordings is invalid. Your acoustic treatment got up and wandered off in one of the clips. ;-)

Have you tried https://www.discogs.com ? It's been the best resource I've found so far. They even break down each album into the different pressings so you can search for exactly what you want.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Which is the one that sounds bigger and more impressive and which do you prefer in real life? Oops...I missed that minor detail. Everyone's conclusions match what I hear in the room: Option 2 is better. Interestingly, over on the systems thread Charlie1 prefers Blacks to Option2, so more investigat...

Re: Best / worst vinyl pressings

I have a copy of this: https://www.discogs.com/Pearl-Jam-Ten/release/1084282 and it is the dullest sounding, most lifeless pressing in my collection. I'm genuinely shocked at how much they sell for. Mine copy still has the original Tower Records price tag: $8.99 Being a Seattle native child of the '...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Thank you everybody for your feedback. What you're listening to are two different pairs of Linn Silver interconnects between phono stage and preamp. Looks like Knekt soldered to K400. Difficult to say much more.

How do they sound?
Hehe...I guess that's a good sign I'm not completely mucking it up.

With all the changes to my system lately it's impossible to isolate the speaker cables' performance, but it's sounding better than it ever has.

Great feedback, everybody! I have to say I agree with all the comments, even the contradictory ones. It's a bit of a conundrum, but then... What type of interconnects are you sporting there? Is everything kosher at that end? A very good question, a2! I was using all blacks. Here it is again with sil...

Re: It really ties the room together

Certainly a lot of differences in setup between the clips. I don't really think it tells us much about the amps. I preferred the all Linn clip. It seemed better balanced too. I'd like to hear both amp options via Linto though. Your wish is my command! I managed to find enough connectors to make up ...

Re: Determining optimum solder temperature

This is not good. Don't try to outsmart the soldering station. The figure you see on the display is not accurate. It's constantly lagging behind what's happening at the joint, where the heat is drained. Set the temperature. Wait until the temperature is stable. Ignore the display while you solder. ...

I fear this one may divide opinion but we'll see. A change to the LP12. LP12 suspension probably not settled after transit and whole system cold with Radikal/Urika not used for a few weeks. Also, my favourite red LED Nait is having its volume control fixed so this is the green LED version. Option 1...
