Re: Tune Dem of Headphones

Yes, it is the eGrado now, although it was originally the iGrado. We haven't had them in the store for years so I'm not sure I have even seen the new version. As for over the ear headphones I would try to give a listen to the David Clark Audio Aeon 2 headphones. They are a bit more expensive than t...

Set of 3 JBL 3677 near Portland, Oregon

I came across this listing on Facebook Marketplace:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 698127419/

I have no affiliation with the seller but I thought I'd share it here in case there is someone interested in giving these a try.

Re: a bit of fun

I think this topic has run its course. But to twist it a little, to what extent do members think that music from any period sounds more 'right' or 'well balanced' on a system manufactuered during that same period? And if so, is it just cos you lived through that period (i.e. nostalgia when hearing ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Thank you, Fredrik! I think you may have boosted my understanding of the tune method by several steps, as well as something tangible to practice. Brilliant!

Is this an exercise you do before every tuning session or only when you feel like you're not in the right frame of mind?

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

That's funny. I've never felt that I have a preference for either A or B. I feel that when listening to A, I set an emotional baseline. Usually it's enough to hear it once, but often I repeat the first 5 seconds. Sometimes I repeat them twice. That phrase "emotional baseline" is really interesting....

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

But I still find that my initial response to any clip is to prefer A. Only if I take a bit more time can I be sure. This was another example of that. Makes no difference if I do the AAB method instead of just AB. I often encounter this as well, although I tend to be biased toward B. If I am unsure ...

Re: HiFi fuses

Hi and welcome to the forum, paolob! Yes, fuses have an affect on performance. I remember reading a post from Fredrik where he mentions determining the best fuse and the best orientation. I did a quick search and can't find that post, but I did find this: Linn never check fuse direction, so you shou...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Yes, there is a difference. The top clip is playing the music like it has a “straitjacket” on. The bottom clip has a free flowing character. Another spot on description from beck. Second clip is the T-Kable routed free and clear of all contact other than at each end. First clip has a power cable th...

Re: Most Musical Gain Setting (Linto)

that makes me think of cutting the wires too - what you have to do is remove the boards? Maybe it was a cumulative effect because you than also have re-torqued the bords and the housing screws. The links are located on the underside of the circuit board, so yes it has to come out. I had adjusted al...

Re: Most Musical Gain Setting (Linto)

And we have a winner, by unanimous vote! The first clip is factory default setting with jumpers intact: 64dB gain. Second clip is with jumpers cut: 54dB gain and volume on Exotik raised 10dB to compensate (I didn't spend much time exploring volume matching as it sounded pretty close to me this way)....

Most Musical Gain Setting (Linto)

I did a search and didn't find an answer, so apologies if this has already been covered. Is there a musical advantage to one gain setting over another in a Linto? I have noticed on rare occasions the red "overload" LED will illuminate on my Linto so it might be a good idea to lower the gain, but as ...

Re: Karousel

You seem to be missing the point that at the price of a new Akurate LP 12 (9,000 €) you can get a deck more musical than a Klimax LP 12 (more than 20,000 €) without Karousel. M And that is fantastic news for the Akurate LP12 owner, that for approximately 11% of their initial outlay they receive suc...

Re: Karousel

It seems that Linn is committing suicide offering an upgrade that for less than 1,000 € could transform an Akurate LP12 to a more musical device than a crazy pricey Klimax LP12 Who the hell will buy a Keel, an Ekos or a Klimax Radikal in the future? M. You seem to be forgetting that the same improv...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

If I try to track what each instrument is doing simaultaneously then this is easier for me with Linto and my preference. This is what I hear as well. If I try to track what each individual instrument is doing, it's easier on the DIY preamp. If I try to track what all the instruments are doing simul...

Received a CB 160 today. Not directly compared to the bold down 160 in the house yet. The 250 has been on for weeks. The 160 has had about 3 hours warm up. 32.5/Snaps/250: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1ja4fw0gmyc569x/IMG_0510%5B1%5D.MOV?dl=0 32.5/CB 160: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7d0ljrfpcte5nir/IMG_0...

I received the same email. I find it mildly amusing that the image associated with the custom color announcement shows an LP12 in yellow, yet the color palate on their website shows just about every color except yellow.
