Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Thank you everybody for your feedback. What you're listening to are two different pairs of Linn Silver interconnects between phono stage and preamp. Option 2 is a repost of a clip from my system thread, option 1 is new. There have been a number of discussions on this forum, especially by Fredrik, ab...

Re: Determining optimum solder temperature
Hehe...I guess that's a good sign I'm not completely mucking it up.
With all the changes to my system lately it's impossible to isolate the speaker cables' performance, but it's sounding better than it ever has.

Re: It really ties the room together
Great feedback, everybody! I have to say I agree with all the comments, even the contradictory ones. It's a bit of a conundrum, but then... What type of interconnects are you sporting there? Is everything kosher at that end? A very good question, a2! I was using all blacks. Here it is again with sil...

Re: It really ties the room together
Certainly a lot of differences in setup between the clips. I don't really think it tells us much about the amps. I preferred the all Linn clip. It seemed better balanced too. I'd like to hear both amp options via Linto though. Your wish is my command! I managed to find enough connectors to make up ...

Re: Determining optimum solder temperature
This is not good. Don't try to outsmart the soldering station. The figure you see on the display is not accurate. It's constantly lagging behind what's happening at the joint, where the heat is drained. Set the temperature. Wait until the temperature is stable. Ignore the display while you solder. ...

I fear this one may divide opinion but we'll see. A change to the LP12. LP12 suspension probably not settled after transit and whole system cold with Radikal/Urika not used for a few weeks. Also, my favourite red LED Nait is having its volume control fixed so this is the green LED version. Option 1...

Hi markiteight and apologies for the late reply! No apologies necessary! Considering the hectic weekend you just had I appreciate such a quick response. Thank you so much for all the brilliant info. That will provide very useful. 5. No, this is not critical. Don't use too little and you'll be fine....

Re: It really ties the room together
Cool! :) How are you getting on with it? Swimmingly! I only had a couple hours last night to play around with it and its performance was all over the map. Sometimes it wasn't doing anything for me, other times it held me absolutely spellbound. But mood swings aside, it's FUN! The amount of music th...

Are we only interested in HAKAI streamers or do HAKAI based NAS devices count as well?
I have one of each.

Re: Asus Tinker Board
In the case of these clips, I tried listening through the sound differences, to concentrate on musical cues, but was with you in preferring B when listening on the laptop. Listening on the phone instead, the sax player not only put away the kazoo but also developed into a noticeably better musician...

also, @markiteight, check your DSP settings when doing media conversion from AIFF->FLAC. I'm not sure if replay gain (or other DSP) is applied or not when converting. Have a check of that first. Next, experiment with different players and see which one gives you the sound you prefer. Will do. I kno...

Re: How good are phono stages in vintage Linn preamps?
Is the phono stage in the Majik Kontrol the same as that found in the Exotik/Akurate? If so I can do a comparison of an Exotik with phono and a Linto.

Re: Snakeoil OS
With LMS or Minimserver you have to rescan after each file load/change/delete to see the update on the control point. Gotcha. That worked. And it worked. Files converted to FLAC play normally. Out of curiosity I ran an album through dBPoweramp without changing formats in order to see if the AIFF ->...

There should be a red trash can that you can click to remove the mounts. Then click on "Add" to setup a new one. U3 might have broken something as I just enabled folks to create more than 1 mounts. Possibly introduced a bug with this change. I'd look into this and see if I can fix it. Or overhaul t...

1. Is this a separate step? I thought upmpdcli was included in Snakeoil? The facility to install Upmpdcli from within the Snakeoil GUI is available in the unlocked version. Hi everybody. Sorry I'm late. Welcome to the rabbit hole, Agent Kith! You can follow the guide here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lvm Thank you.
