Re: Small top quality floorstanders

Another vote for the 242's, a great speaker that just keeps improving with the sources and amps in front.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

@ Defender: Much appreciated your switch comparison. Like most here, I preferred the Netgear in the clips (not quite as clear, but musically more satisfying). Which power cable do you use for the Cisco? I use a Lejonklou Power One, which is much better than a standard cable. Is the 108T using a Friw...

I like the N1 better, the voice doesn't convince me on the N2.

Getting past me laughing at the upward bass guitar slide in the previous clips (sounded a bit like a “muu-uu” from a cow) it is easy in these latest clips to appreciate the contribution of the hicap.

Yep, better with Hi-Cap. But still a bit sluggish...

As far as I'm aware, that would involve buying a full Klimax streamer which would be far too expensive. I'm not sure how many K Renew DSM versions exist.
None with Katalyst. Get a second-hand Akurate DS/1 and have it upgraded with Katalyst, or an ADSM, if you need the HDMI-inputs.

I prefer the first clip, 12.56.26. Just seems to flow better to me.

It not a big difference and yet it is a big difference when you think of the small change being made.
First clip for me too. The natural flow seems to be missing in the second one, the musicians just aren't as well in sync.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I think I would go with B (based on the third track), there you're upfront at the stage. On A you're further back and it's not so intimate.

Re: Best / worst vinyl pressings

I am tempted by Mobile Fidelity’s reissue of Supertramps “Breakfast in America” (new record) in the “Original Master recording” series but it is not cheap. Is it any good? I have never heard a Mobile Fidelity Original Master Recording that impressed me. They have always sounded weird. Usually any r...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I agree with Tokenbrit: it's clearly better with the block in place. It gets heavy-handed, clumsy and looses the natural swing without it.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

@ Charlie: But you really should get rid of that AT-3600 cartridge and get at least an AT-95E... It’s a Rega Carbon but I assume you know that and it’s just a rebadged 3600. I do have an at-95e. Maybe I could actually swap it myself! Is the Carbon that bad? I would do it... But maybe Beck's idea is...

Make sure it is not an expensive stylus! A good choice for a beginning table - just no match for an LP12. Since it is Friday bake off lets try this. Re: Best / worst vinyl pressings

I have the UK-original, which does sound very good: https://www.discogs.com/Roxy-Music-Roxy ... se/4001865
As an alternative, also consider a US-original like this one: https://www.discogs.com/Roxy-Music-Roxy ... se/2385857 It is, however, more expensive than the UK original.

I have noticed the same as Ron and Fredrik also and that the improvement takes place, even if the system has been playing radio or some other source before. I'm also unsure when the second improvement kicks in, but I think it's closer to 2 hours.

Based on experience with various Bob Marley and Fairport Convention albums, I'd say it'll be hard to find a better one than this one: https://www.discogs.com/Roxy-Music-For- ... se/1496320
