Re: Linn Klimax DSM Organik, impressions

If lossless actually existed, there would be no improvement from the new Klimax Exakt Box vs. the old one as there is no Organik DAC in it. Yet everybody who has heard one claims there is a big improvement.

Re: Netgear N300 VS EE brightbox Help needed

I have to go for the Brain. Pinky just doesn't quite do it for me, I find it making me sleepy (OK I'm already sleepy so make that sleepier). Perky perks me up and makes me want to listen more. Also I do think I hear what tokenbrit is talking about as the drumming does feel a bit halting on Pinky and...

Re: Tony Tune-age System

I definitely prefer clip 1. It moves better and is more musical throughout. It also has this subtle voice in the background about 10 seconds in that is not there at all on clip 2. ;-) I just received that album late last week and had a chance to listen to part of it last weekend. I am quite enjoying...

Re: Mixing things up.. non Linn speakers?

I didn't initially answer this as the requests seemed to be for personal experience of speakers that top well known choices like the Linn 242 and other Linns or the JBL 3677. I haven't dragged a whole lot of speakers home to try in my system (too heavy, to upsetting to the system) so I wasn't going ...

I'm with conditioner. Although it sounds a little more Hi-Fi (but not in a bad way) I find it more musical and expressive.

I'd say pretty much the same for Corbett over Munro. However I do notice that Corbett has a darker center image than Monro does.

That's incorrect, those are still under development! :oD A motorcycle phono stage ought to spin up to 78s... 33.3 would be a moped phono stage :/ Hopefully this post doesn't result in me getting a shellacking :) I probably just have to...

Re: Tony Tune-age System

Yeah, I'm liking clip 2 a little better as well. It just moves better. It does sound like they re-Eqed it and took away some of the brightness of the original, which is a bitt too much.

Thanks for giving us the low-down on the system.

Re: Unequal lengths of RCA OR Speaker Cable, Left & Right? Advice..

I don't know if anybody has a real scientific explanation for why it sounds better at a certain length. There are theories having to do with capacitance, inductance, etc. but I haven't seen anything that says this amount is better than that amount, etc. But there are other people who talk about opti...

An unlocked phone!!!?? ...is that so you can use any mobile network 😁 Or no mobile network if you choose to use it just as a remote. In the US all iPhones now come unlocked standard unless you buy one on a payment plan through AT&T from what I read. So you don't need to jailbreak your iPhone device...

Cool! :) Anyone know how they are supposed to be positioned? ATM they are about 7cm from the rear wall. Back in the day I think we did pretty much the same as with Kans, as close as you could get without the banana plugs touching the back wall. But that was long ago. I'd probably start there and th...

Re: Charlie1's System

It sounds pretty darn good! Nice looking set of SARAs. There was a guy who swore the SARAs were the best speakers in the world. He played with things to prop them against the back wall and did various things to optimize the system. It was interesting to read. Then he bought a pair of Isobariks (whic...

Re: 1980's LP12 bearing bolt torque value

Actually it can make a quite noticeable musical difference when it is able to be applied. It is especially important on the Karousel in my experience, but certainly audible on Cirkus bearings and also different on the Keel, the other aluminum sub chassis and the steel Cirkus sub chassis. In the past...

Re: 1980's LP12 bearing bolt torque value

Pre-Cirkus can be a bit difficult so I'm not sure I can give you exact torques. Most pre-Cirkus bearings used hex head screws with domed heads and take a 2mm bit. I don't have a torque for them as any of the torques I have used on bearing housings would likely strip out the head. So I would recommen...

It isn't easy to compete with good analog. Setting up as many turntables as I do (finishing up an arm swap on a basic LP12/Valhalla, three more LP12s and a Thorens in the wings) I am still surprised and pleased with how musical even a relatively basic turntable can sound when setup properly. I get i...
