Re: Tony Tune-age System

Unofficially named? Really? https://i.imgur.com/arHMSjd.jpg I'm not sure what it takes to be official but this normally counts for me. But, yes, there is no Ekos SE/2 that I am aware of. Credit the confusion to Linn changing their nomenclature from mkII to /1, etc. a number of years back. Interestin...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Completely separate grounds for the left and right channel means that the only place the grounds of the two channels come together is at the AC power strip or the wall. Even equipment that is dual mono in construction normally has the left and right signal grounds connected together. This is easily ...

Re: The Mighty AT95E Becomes The AT-VM95E

I hadn't heard all the parts of Ron's upgrade story and cartridge tests over timeand find it quite interesting. I loved the Troika too. I can confirm that his table with ARadikal, Cirkus, LV-X and AT95e was easily superior to the Lingo2, Cirkus, Kore, Ekos 2 and Adikt LP12. It so happens that that t...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Lovely music Thomas. It is actually a shame that we cannot see the system (unless you are hiding something!). +1 I too was wondering what lurked behind the black beast with blue eyes. Same system I have used for other recent clips. The pure dual mono Quad setup without subwoofer: Klimax LP12, SINGu...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Just listened to the latest set of 95ML vs. 95E. Youch! I'll take the E any time, it really makes the music move. ML not even close. By the way, is your record with the tracking problem at the end of the last cut one you bought used? I ask because I have found it not uncommon to find used records wi...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Just to get somewhat back on subject and title, here is I clip I made a couple of days ago. No comparisons, and the vinyl is a little noisy, but it was a record I put on to listen to one track and ended up playing the entirety. https://www.dropbox.com/s/wfr73c63jnu73gl/Video%20Sep%2008%2C%208%2036%2...

Re: Linn unidisk 2.1 tray hard open

Actually I would consider a refurb £100 to be quite reasonable. Certainly a lot less that the Linn flat rate fee of $550. I don't think you would get even a simple repair from our local technician for under $125 - $150 and a full refurb would tend to start at $250 and go up depending on what was nee...

Re: Linn unidisk 2.1 tray hard open

There are a few things that can cause this. It could be voltages as capacitors age and could cause a voltage drop to the important components. I have also seen several cases in Linn disc spinners where the motor that lifts and lowers the transport fails and it can also sometimes be caused by a bad b...

Re: Tundra Stereo idea

I think you are confusing balanced interconnections with balanced drive on the speaker. Balanced interconnections have a plus signal, a minus signal and a separate ground. The idea is that by recombining the plus and minus signals in the load, which is done by flipping one, it cancels out noise that...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I'm all in on the N1. At the beginning I was thinking the N2 was pretty good too, but then the second track came in and everything seemed to flatten and fall apart. I just couldn't get into it like I got into the same track on the N1.

I'm also liking the 12/160 more than with the Hi-Cap, which does somewhat surprise me. As to the Y-cable, it is true it should be called the Why-cable.

Re: Testing MC step up transformers

Thanks, Fredrik! A lot of interesting information on the SUT trials. Considering the expected price range for the lower cost MC stage in the Slipsik case, the SUT unit would be pretty high - probably more than a Sagatun. From the reading I've done about those who are fans of SUTs they seem to be pic...

Re: Possible Upgrade

I did not do KDSM vs. KDS plus KK. Since the KDS also has the DVC capability the comparison was the KDS with DVC direct to amps vs. KDS with DVC disabled into KK. These were with a KDS/3 - the Katalyst version. Since the KDS is musically superior to the KDSM this is actually the fairer test.

Re: Possible Upgrade

Linn claims that a KDSM produces a better sound than a KDS in conjunction with a KK as it has an incorporated preamp, so what exactly are the concerns about losing the preamp component of the Boazu? Peter, there are two answers here, the first is that Linn seem currently to be prioritising sound ov...

Re: Possible Upgrade

It really depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you need the various DAC inputs for other decoding duties then that might be a possibility. But I still have not been pleased with the musical quality of the DVCs so I wouldn't be in a hurry to give up an analog preamp. It would definitely be w...

Sound by Singer did have a Boazu on display, but it looks like that is no longer the case. It will be very interesting to find out how they compare to the other MC stage work you've been doing. Re: Bolt Down / Chrome Bumper NAP 160 vs 250

Interesting replies. I went a step further than Briain and removed the main board from the NAC12S and wired all the boards, in/outs and pots directly to each other. I ended up returning it to stock, not completely convinced the mod was worthwhile, and sold it to a friend to buy a 32.5/HiCAP/135s set...

4-way Pro Elec mains block with 50cm lead vs 4-way Masterplug with 1m lead. I've recently moved the main system to another wall in the same room and not really played much with speaker positioning at yet. Currently LP12/Urika/LK Majik-i/Katans.
