Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

A loss of human nature embedded in the music. Every human feeling gets ironed out loosing some of its power to touch our souls. Listening becomes more like observing the music than feeling it. I would say that this is a very good indictment of the music industry today as well. The "perfection" of m...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I think Fredrik hit the nail on the head with his comments. In the room the without pad track sounds more forceful but not pleasantly so. The cymbal hits sometimes shatter and the voice becomes more coarse, all while overshadowing some of the other instruments. I would say that a good analogy would ...

rodrigo y gabriela "Mettavolution". Their new studio album, first in 5 years. Just came in yesterday and I didn't take home as it would have had to sit in a hot car for a few hours so I haven't listened to it yet.

It has to be the graphic T-shirt, where it appears as though his chest hair continues into your own pubic hair!

I see that Spannko can order his choice of two David Cassidy shirts. Choices, choices.

Let me guess. David Cassidy ? ;-)
I was going to guess Barry Manilow.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

The dummy load seems to suck quite a lot of life from the music. Not as interesting and enjoyable to listen to. Bigger difference than I was expecting to notice. Really sounds like there is very little ‘system’ in the way of the music Thomas. What are the white blocks on the bottom of each shelf? T...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Make sure it is not an expensive stylus! A good choice for a beginning table - just no match for an LP12. Since it is Friday bake off lets try this. System as I normally play it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8fqitjgewbl54lr/Video%20Jun%2023%2C%204%2024%2016%20PM.mov?dl=0 System with the Urika 1 plugged...

I thought you said this was a bake off? Clip 1 a lovely, multi-layer, cream cheese frosted carrot cake; Clip 2 a slice of dry toast. Listening to Clip 1 first definitely does Clip 2 no favors.

Re: A reminder

Wow, I hadn't heard about this. Gee, I'm so glad to hear they had digital "backups" of all that stuff. This way they can still sell the files even if much of the true musical value has been lost. Sounds like a win-lose situation to me. Universal wins the ability to keep selling these files like noth...

That's the way I do it too. Radikal box powered up all the time (except when I'm away on vacation) and the motor powered up when I'm going to play records.

Re: Radikal speed problem

It certainly sounds like you have a problem with the motor. By the way Hermann, you may have started turning it off because that is what Linn recommended when they released it. The AC motors last several decades with minimal wear and can be left on all the time without concern. Also a replacement is...

Re: SINGularity

Yes, this is one of those interesting discoveries. When the Radikal first came out, before it had the Dynamik and before I developed torques for it, I did a couple of quick listens to it with and without the Urika hooked up and felt it sounded a touch better with the Urika connected to the power sup...

Re: MC preamp straight into power amp?

I thought this might help to clarify things a little bit. Lejonklou preamps and most more recent Linn analog preamps have unity gain at a setting of 80 out of 100 (first versions of the KK were at 70). Unity gain means there is no amplification and no attenuation - the level that comes in is the lev...

Re: Good Tidings of Great Joy to All People

That's good news indeed! It's really what this is all about. It is not that you are homogenizing all the music (as some systems tend to do) but retrieving enough music in a balanced enough way that you can appreciate what the albums are all about. You can still easily tell a really well made album f...

Best wishes for a complete and comfortable recuperation. That is only one of her favorite positions a...

I don't know how much Fredrik wants to talk about this yet but I can give you a couple of general answers to your questions. First, the next MC phono stage is substantially based on the work done on the SINGularity, unless things change radically going forward. Second, I don't believe Fredrik ever d...

Re: 3k array material

Yes, all 3K and 2K arrays are metal chassis and have been from the beginning. Only the pod of the 4K Array on the Komri started out polymer and then was upgraded to metal. I believe Linn offered a free upgrade to the metal array for the Komri but there may be some out there with polymer arrays as so...

I'm surprised Fredrik didn't get this, unless he was just being purposely obtuse. Especially since he mentioned to me that one of his friends told him he had OCO - Obsessive Compulsive Order - since he used it to make great products and a living, it couldn't really be a Disorder.
