Re: Exakt

Some interesting thoughts that I felt I might comment on as both a music lover (most important) and also a Linn dealer. First off I have to say that in general Linn upgrades both are and are not optional. They are all optional in the sense that if you have existing equipment it is up to you whether ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

This is one of those times I wonder if the first playing of clips doesn't have a problem. When I first listened to Clip 1 I thought something was wrong. Then I listened to Clip 2 and thought it was better. Then I listened to Clip 2 and Clip 1 a second time, in that reverse order, and preferred Clip ...

Oops! Now corrected. To further confuse matters Dan Clark Audio is the new name of the company previously known as Mr. Speakers, which originally introduced the Ether C and Aeon Flow series. (But no speakers.)

Re: Tune Dem of Headphones

Yes, it is the eGrado now, although it was originally the iGrado. We haven't had them in the store for years so I'm not sure I have even seen the new version. As for over the ear headphones I would try to give a listen to the Dan Clark Audio Aeon 2 headphones. They are a bit more expensive than the ...

Re: LP12 Radikal problem

I'm afraid that's the only way it will work with a Trampolin and it's OK. The back of the LP12 is heavier than the front, and with an Ekos SE it is especially heavy on the right back. This will cause the LP12 to sit a bit lower at the back and sometimes lower yet on the back right. On my LP12s I do ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Yep, not connected is better. Same thing I found when I disconnected the CD12 from the AC even though it was not plugged into the Sagatun Monos. These types of things take us into the deep end and do get somewhat annoying as it increases the difficulty of having more than one source. It is almost en...

Re: Tune Dem of Headphones

You can fit the G, L and S cushions to any of the Grado models except the iGrados. So SR60 on up. We have had customers put the G cushions on PS500s and SR325s and they have been quite happy with them. They do each have slightly different sounds so best to try them if you can. Since we normally have...

Re: Quality digital music: Do You Buy or Rent?

I truly dislike the fact that whatever industries that can get away with it will try to keep you from owning things and instead get you to pay for it forever. This is popular with all types of software: music, movies, TV shows, computer software, etc. My main computer is no longer supported by Apple...

I believe it was the NAC 552. And Linn certainly did highly endorse using the LP12 and Isobariks, SARAs and Kans with Naim electronics...until they came out with their own!

Re: Indoor FM aerial recommendation.

Last year some builders working on our roof inadvertently threw out my Kremlin's Ron Smith galaxy aerial. Although not an issue at the moment with no live broadcasts it be good get it up and running again. I remember getting a reasonably musical but noisy reception with the cheap copper wire but wo...

Re: Audiophile Pressings

I'm not generally fond of remasterings in general, and of audiophile ones in particular. There are some exceptions as my standard remastering of Frank Sinatra's Wee Small Hours is quite good and compares very well to an original. Also my Satchmo St. James Infirmary, which is a 45RPM single audiophil...

Re: Silver analogue interconnect

Still burning them in. Since my Sagatun Monos are out right now it will be a while before I do the next clips. There are a few versions of the Linn Balanced Silver interconnects. I have seen three different XLR plugs used over time. I haven't compared them as I don't use balanced in my system so I d...

Re: Magnum Dynalab Antenna and Ekos/1

Last week I was finally able to install the new MD ST-2 antenna, and it's a really great improvement over the previous antenna. The signals are much stronger, and the back ground noise is much lower as well. And needless to say, listening to FM frequencies isn't as unpleasant now. Voices are more n...

Just make sure you are looking for one made for the right region. Changing the voltage requires a new transformer and power cable. Added to the upgrade price you could end up being behind in total cost.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I can tell you from past experience that putting a Rega Planar 2 or 3 in front of quality Naim electronics and Isobariks is a recipe for fatigue. The flaws of the turntable are pretty much all that is noticeable. Hi Thomas, This is in "general" your experience with Rega TT in front of Naim ... or o...

Yes, the tiny allen head screw in the front bottom of the arm pillar that holds the arm cable plug in place. If it is not tightened down the plug can rattle (some plugs more than others). As there is a torque that sounds best, having it right is worth doing.

Re: Are NBL's an adequate replacement for the briks?

I'd be a little leery of the NBLs. A customer I do turntable work for has a pair and is a bit trigger happy having blown the mids a couple of times. The mids are no longer available for love or money so his are just dead.
