Re: Best cable match for a Majik DSM + majik 140 system

Yeah, what the man said. Split your K400 - best sensible cable in the world for music IMHO. Now spitting K400 can be fun especially if it is old and the plastic is a bit hard. You can use a knife or stanley blade, but you do not want to be going to hospital with the virus about. I have used a number...

Re: Donuk's system

Lets all chase away our corona blues and share the progress of our systems. Mine is essentially the same with a couple of improvements. It now is: Totem Signature One speakers on Linn Kan Stands; Akurate DS (Katalyst), Linn Klimax Twin amplifier (to latest spec), Melco S100 Switch, Melco N1/A, Isobl...

Re: How to learn tunedem?

When I talk about a system that delivers “untight” beat it is a bit like looking in binoculars where the two lenses are not pulled fully together like one view! Everywhere the individual instruments have their own beat to follow slightly seperated from the rest. It has nothing to do with if the ban...

Re: Recording Bass Guitar

Hi Charlie1 Not an expert on bass guitars, except having played jazz guitar alongside them for many decades... The trouble is, that in modern music the bass - whatever sort - plays a least two roles. In simple terms. Ideally it should provide an interesting counterpoint and predict and state somethi...

Re: How to learn tunedem?

I think this is a very useful constructive thread that is informative to all of us, wherever we stand on the tunedem issue. The problem I have - and no doubt misunderstood - is the concept of listening to systems where musicians play together. In the real world musicians do not play together. There ...

Re: How to learn tunedem?

It may be that just a few forum readers are in a similar position to myself. I have been listening to and constructing hifi for decades. Because, in recent years my system has included Linn and Lejonklou items, I have never been far from the concept of Tunedem. I have wrestled with this, argued, bee...

Re: What to match with a Majik DSM3

I started at the Magik stage and then moved to Akurate. Personally if you are planning to continue the upgrade path too, I would keep saving until you get to the ADS / ADSM stage. Even if that means living with a cheap less than ideal amplifier. My experience, since the Katalyst upgrade, is that the...

I must mention Lumin A bit like Marmite. You either love it or hate it. I love it - takes a bit of getting to know, but flexible when you know how. You can rescan Minimstreamer from within it, for example. Also has the option of viewing everything by date added order. This is because it keeps all it...

This comparison shows up the dillema I sometimes have. I find clip 2 more tuneful when following a specific instrument - the bass guitar in particular is much more enjoyable and easier to follow. However, clip 1 allows me to relax more as all the instruments make sense in relation to one another an...

Re: Melco S100 Network Switch

spannko - I have been using the N1/A simply as a NAS and not passing the signal through it. This was simply to be able to evaluate the S100 and know what I was actually hearing. But the effect of the S100 is much greater than the "Melco N1/A" effect. The S100 sadly has to go back to Sound Organisati...

Also tried using both my QNAP NAS and Melco N1/A with these in various configurations.

Sadly no substitute for the real thing in my system.

Melco S100 Network Switch

Well, I have borrowed a Melco S100 Network Switch. I have had it in my system for a few days. It works. Don't ask my why or how, but it does. I am not an expert on network traffic. But I borrowed the unit out of curiosity quite expecting it not to work. I also took it yesterday to a chum who has a N...

Hello Fellow Freddie Followers.. I know this topic is discussed on various forums, with varying conclusions, but I would like to give it an outing here (again?). Re: Musical NAS Drives

I agree that the way digits are served up to a streamer is a complex one, and a bit of a black art. What I do know is the regular question I get "what sounds better, a ripped CD or Qubuz" has very variable answers. I think it depends on the history of the CD. Also - a similar dilemma - do high resol...

Re: Optimum ripping solutions

I find dBpoweramp is great. I set mine to Flac "lossless uncompressed". I always rip to a hard disk in my computer for ease and speed of writing - this I use as primary store of my music. I then tidy up any metadata using Tag Editor (on my Mac) Mp3tag is good for windows. I then transfer the file(s)...

Use a pile of coins to make up the 8th position. I bet you never hear the difference.

And just think, somewhere in the universe there must be a hifi enthusiast who is listening to their system using only one skeet.
