Well, that's certainly enough information for me - Thanks Thomas. So far I haven't had a problem with static, of course there's always a first time.

So, it might be okay to leave the Linn preamplifier and phono preamplifier on full time, but perhaps turn off the power amplifier if not in use for a period of time? Although the power amplifier never gets hot or overly warm.

This issue has strong opinions both ways.

Should solid state audio compenents stay on always?

I've been advised to leave audio components turned on, even when not being used. Apparently this keeps everything warmed-up and the system will sound better. I've also been advised not to leave them turned on, after a listening session. Apparently, this can cause the components to wear out faster. A...

I never realized static could be such a problem with the felt mat. Is dry air the only way for static to build up on felt mats?

In addition to sounding very nice, the Urika can either eliminate the need for one audio shelf, or free one shelf for another component. It's a very good design concept in terms of physical and sonic efficiency.

Periodically, there will be various versions of the Linn Isobariks for sale on e-bay and other internet sites. Most people have good opinions about that speaker, and many regret selling them. In my view, the Isobarik is a very capable speaker and can accomodate the best front end components. If they...

Regarding the older version and newer version of the outter platter (OPLAT04 and 05), what year did Linn switch to the newer outter platter? And is it an issue to worry about?

Maybe you'll find one eventually, the new Akito is a nice sounding tonearm. Actually, the original Akito wasn't poor sounding - just not as nice as the newer version.

It's interesting how audio components can be valued by different people. One thing is true, the Sondek has a wide range of available upgrades to fit nearly any budget.

It has been most enjoyable hearing how each upgrade can improve the sound.

I'll order a new Linn felt mat, the next time my Sondek is maintenanced or upgraded. Both you and Thomas have suggested that affordable upgrade - and it will be interesting to hear the difference.

One new Linn Urika is less money than two new Linto's, and maybe cheaper than two used Linto's. What I find attractive with the Urika, is it frees-up an audio shelf - which could be used for another component if needed.

Yes, I got the two components mixed-up. Your products are still new to me, but there's been many positive comments from other people. In any case, I was thinking about your stereo preamplifier and it has one input currently.

Although not a brand new felt mat, mine isn't as thick as the 1970's and 1980's mat, since it was made around the middle 1990's time frame. But perhaps at some point I'll purchase a newer Linn felt mat. Thanks for the historical information Thomas.
