It's very interesting how the Sondek LP12 power supply options have changed since 1973 8) .

There was an advertisement provided by a Linn dealer, suggesting the new LP12 Majik power supply is better sounding than the older Valhalla power supply. Is there any truth to this statement, or is it just a subjective opinion?

Based on my experiences with Linn interconnects, and primarily on Linn components, there is validity to their statement. It becomes more challenging to determine optimum length with other cable companies.

Analog signals have been very sensitive to cable length on my system.

A company called Synergistic Research makes many of their power cords at a particular length, which is considered the best sounding length for that cable technology. Apparenlty they can make these power cords longer, but the longer cords may not sound as nice. Some companies don't advocate a particu...

Just compared the original Boz Scaggs "Silk Degrees" album, with the 180 gram version made by Pure Pleasure Records Limited. (Note: both albums have the Columbia Record label) Each of these albums are very musical, but the newer version provides a little more substance overall. However, the 180 gram...

All valid points Thomas, and I've had those types of experiences. Speaking of the Linn Klimax Kontrol preamplifier, there was some healthy debate (on another forum) regarding the Klimax Kontrol and Naim NAC-552 preamplifier. Do you have any experience comparing the Klimax Kontrol with other top rate...

I agree totally, no way I'd drill a hole in the Keel. Cosmetically it wouldn't look good, and after spending that much money - the Keel wouldn't deserve an additional hole drilled into it... 8) !

There is no doubt in my mind that Linns' next moving coil cartridge will sound better. However, I haven't identified any flaws with the current Akiva moving coil cartridge.

Just received the Led-Zeppelin "Mothership" album box set, produced by Jimmy Page. Although it's a collection of their best songs, I can compare these with the same songs from the original albums. Thus far, all songs from the box set sound better (i.e., more musical) than the original records. The r...

Lejonklou, that does sound like a good experiment and using the same type of "speaker cable and connectors" can be a constant bench mark. Historically, I have used two meter long speaker cables, from a variety of manufacturers. My most recent set of speaker cables are one meter long, and sound bette...

Well, that does make sense Thomas, and I figured you would certainly have accurate information. In any case, I don't have to worry about my Keel, since I don't own that particular Linn Ittok tonearm 8) .

Thanks for the indepth explanation Thomas. I do know that Linn spends a great deal of time researching, testing and listening to their audio products. Ultimately, this attention to detail has a positive impact on the overall Linn sound.

Thomas, if an extra hole is drilled into the Keel (for the particular type of Ittok tonearm you mentioned), does it have an impact on the sonic performance, especially if they switch to an Ekos tonearm later?

Thomas, does Linn experiment with various Lyra products, then determine what changes they want made to a particular Lyra cartridge? And does Linn experiment with these cartridges only on their Sondek turntable, using an Ekos SE tonearm?

NORDOST NORSE CABLES

When the new line of Nordost Norse cables were released, all four types were supposed to sound better than Valkyrja. However, I haven't seen any reviews comparing the Norse series of cables, directly to the Valkyrja cables. However, some individual reports suggest Valkyrja is actually better soundin...

I think the Keel can ordered for various Linn tonearms such as; the Ittok, Ekos and Ekos SE, which will be the same type of Keel. Or the Keel can be ordered for the Naim tonearm, which is a different version.

Perhaps Thomas knows for sure... :?:

As for cleaning albums, I use either a VPI record cleaning machine or I clean by hand with filtered water and a lint free cloth. For the stylus, I still use the Linn cartridge paper and a Signet SK305 Electronic Stylus Cleaner. I don't use any liquid for the stylus, which is normally suggested. So f...

Some people really don't think vinyl sounds better than CD or SACD, and as such, want the production of these items to continue.
