Re: GIGAPORT HD/HD+

Higher speed is not better for audio. The opposite is not necessarily true either, but more likely. On the HAKAIs that I built, the USB 2 ports sound better than USB 3. And the lower the clock frequency of the motherboard, the more musical it sounded. This is indeed a very hot topic. Emile from Tai...

Slipsik 7.1

A new and improved version of Slipsik is now official: Slipsik 7.1. What has changed is the damping inside the case. The result is a Slipsik that lets notes fade out a little more precisely. I expected it to be a small improvement, but when I have tried reverting to the 7.0 damping the music just do...

Re: GIGAPORT HD/HD+

Ron, my experience with digital audio points in a different direction than what you're suggesting in your last post. Higher speed is not better for audio. The opposite is not necessarily true either, but more likely. On the HAKAIs that I built, the USB 2 ports sound better than USB 3. And the lower ...

Re: GIGAPORT HD/HD+

Sopper bought an ESI DAC with 24/96 support and less inputs a few months ago. It was a discontinued model but I don't think he posted any reports of its sound quality. The ESI Dr. Dac Prime Sound is (subjective) exactly the same as Gigaport HD+. Plays in 192/24 and that’s what I wanted. That sounds...

Re: Tune Dem of Headphones

Hang on, I gotta check I got this right. You're saying the Bose NC700 beats a pair of AKG 550?! That seems incredible based on every other Bose product I've heard. I've never heard the NC700, but a pair of QC 25 got soundly trounced by a pair of AKG's at a quarter of the price, last I compared (a f...

Re: Best sounding LAN cable for DS

Long cable to switch, then 2.5 m cable to streamer (and 2.5 m cable to NAS) is the best way. Switch and NAS on a separate power strip, but connected to the same wall outlet as the system is also the best way. The only drawback with this arrangement is that NAS and switch require space by the system...

Oh wow, what a feast!

First pictures of two of the most hard core music/HiFi/Tune Method enthusiasts that I know of. Or have heard of even.

And then those reviews, oh my. I'm grinning from ear to ear.

Thank you!

Re: Tune Dem of Headphones

I would happily listen through the Grado line if given the opportunity. I'd bring my Bose NC700 as a reference and they say they're ready for some combat. I recently compared with my three OLD (even close to ancient) favorite AKG's (550, K24P and K420). Oh my, things have improved in 10+ years. They...

Re: Sunbeam's Rig

Wow, great job sunbeam!

These diagrams can be very useful when trying to improve a system or finding a fault.

What I would add to make it even more useful is the power scheme. Every power cord (type and position in strip), every strip, the wall outlets used and their mains wiring from the fuse box.

Re: Small top quality floorstanders

Thanks for the update Peter!

I really liked the Graham 5/9f at X-Fi last year.

Majik 140's I've heard numerous times and have also been using in the lab during 2019. They're pretty good.

I have never compared the two! Wish I could have joined you on that demo. What did Brian and/or Trevor think?

Re: Linto vs built in MM/MC Board

I’m finding a real improvement. I do too! As your experiment suggests, the motor is more important. So you can keep driving that with the best Radikal and then replace Urika+second Radikal with an Entity. Try it! Ok, then i will keep the Linto. I don´t have a MC-Phonoboard to compare myself. I woul...

Wow!

And the other two were Intel and Gigabyte? Which one was 2 and which was 3?

Any changes that you know of that gave this radically different result?

Re: Ground hum issue

This is an interesting and completely new one to me, David. What I would do is to methodically measure earth continuity in the system. Which chassis are grounded, which signal grounds are tied to chassis ground, how and where. In particular the HAKAI. Very difficult to instruct or perform from a dis...

Second clip is the best by far!

Defender, it says on the paper on the floor which is which.

Re: HAKAI playground

I guess it explains why lots of the Australians have a linear power supply. They probably use a linear power supply because someone on the internet wrote that they sound better. As soon as they connect the linear supply, they notice a big difference in the sound. Unable to critically evaluate the m...

And me. It's a good point Fredrik. The Streacom power supply seems to be a bigger part of the overall package than with the Intel DN2800MT which only has a small adapter going to a power input socket on the back of the motherboard. It maybe part of the perceived differences between the two motherboa...

The power supplies have a big impact as well and should be listed.

It seems to me that the Gigabyte board remains on top then and that first clip should be removed as it's invalid.

In the last three clips something very odd happened with clip one. I was unusually recording with my old phone. The other two are accurate. Clip one wasn't.
