Re: Control Apps
I've tried Hifi Cast, Kazoo, BubbleUpnp, BubbleDS I have settled on BubbleDS as my main control on my android mobile and my wife uses it for the streamer in her art studio. My requirements have settled on: 1. Support for Qobuz hi res 2. Support for Radio Paradise FLAC including art and metal data 3....

Re: Karousel Vs Cirkus
Using headphones on PC. I played JH2 first 3 times to familiarise myself with the timing and confidently predict notes. I then played JH1. I could not discern any difference in my ability to predict notes. I found the initial plays of JH2 rather unengaging, but when I played JH1 I had no problem lis...

Re: Upmpdcli and mpd on separate streamer and NAS
I just tried this experiment. Player on PC1 with just mpd v0.21.22 running in RT priority NAS on PC2 with upmpdcli 1.4.12 running in RT priority I was interested to hear the difference resulting from separating these two processes onto different machines. I played tracks streamed from Qobuz to minim...

Re: CIRKUS Vs KAROUSEL TAKE 2
I find this style of music quite a challenge to listen to - on first listen I found it difficult to predict the timing of notes on both tracks. On repeated listen via PC headphones, I find it marginally easier to predict notes on Fudge, but it's pretty close. The trumpet player's mistake also sounds...

Re: Losslessalbums site
It appears to be an index site that does not host any files directly. I've checked one of the download links, and this is hosted on cloudflare infrastructure under "Hotlink", and routes to a payment page. It's not a convincing professional service, and Qobuz (for example) is cheaper The index also l...

Re: Tony Tune-age System
Linn has had promotional stuff from time to time but they mostly seem to go to dealers and distributors. I actually have a Linn terry cloth bathrobe and a wool sweater (I think Shetland wool), plus a sweatshirt and a few different t-shirts, one of which is the "I Use Mine Every Night!" t-shirt. Tim...

Re: Upmpdcli and mpd on separate streamer and NAS
I've allocated the player process to one cpu and set the process priority, but SO has applied it only to upmpdcli, not mpd. I'll see if applying these tweaks to mpd improves audio, which I think means I have to run upmpdcli on the NAS

Upmpdcli and mpd on separate streamer and NAS
Anyone using Snakeoil on separate streamer and NAS with upmpdcli on NAS and mpd on streamer?
I'm currently running upmpdcli+mpd on the streamer, but considering experimenting with just mpd on the streamer, running upmpdcli on the NAS.

I have upgraded my Oz streamer (Snakai?) with a Gigabyte GA-N3150N-D3V motherboard and an RGeek mini ITX case plus power supply. I guess this is more replacement than upgrade since all I'm retaining are the RAM, SATA cable and SSD. This brings a nice upgrade in musicality. Sadly my Linn Axis is now ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Yeah, I liked that too. I thought it was very well written overall. The only thought I had is, 'do audiophiles need attributes like "purity" in order to enjoy their music the way we need "tunefulness" and "good timing" to enjoy ours?'. Are we doing them a disservice? Perhaps many of them enjoy musi...

Cable Management: any recommendations?
Adding a Hakai+NAS to my turntable set up brings a proliferation of cables: ethernet, AC and DC. My rack is surrounded by spaghetti. I try to keep signal, power and speaker cables apart, or cross them perpendicular where that is unavoidable. I avoid cable ties and try to let the cables hang unsuppor...

I think you probably could use a single box streamer with snakeoil configured to read music from a USB disk.
No idea how it would sound but an Oz Hakai would be a cheap way for you to experiment

There must be a fault or weakness in the USB sub-system of my first PC. The new arrival sounds completely different. I haven't bothered checking the daughterboard USBs as the main board connections sound lovely. Spoke too soon. My curiosity got the better of me and I reconnected the daughter board ...

Re: DACs in a Kisto
I can't comment on the Kisto, but I suspect you will find a Hakai streamer much more enjoyable. I used a Kinos for about 5 years, using the DAC for music and for video. Prior to that I had a couple of versions of the AV5103. The Kinos was an improvement over the AV5103, itself an improvement over a ...

Re: Kazoo Kraziness. Alas, no ALAC?
Have you tried upmpdcli.conf parameter checkcontentformat = 0 -e- I did try that eventually and it solved the ALAC issue for Kazoo. However I have given up on Kazoo because I could not make it work reliably with Qobuz. I am now using Bubble UpnP which seems reliable and has richer connectivity with...

I guess mine counts :)
Currently working on optimising it. RGeek AC adaptor and Kingston 2GB RAM are in the post ... Supra USB cable just replaced the stock DAC cable.
This is fun. Reminds me of TT tuning but each part costs 1/10 or 1/100 compared to my LP12 days :)

I removed the motherboard from that case and used a better case. Instead of doing that I would remove the PCB with the USBs and the jacks shown in the pic. Simple removal and it may have a small SQ gain. I've repeatedly tested the 6 USB ports. All 4 rear ports (mounted directly on the motherboard) ...
