Re: Entity MC

I'll report back after a few days of being properly warmed up. Cheers! If you can drag yourself away from listening.... :) I've got no reference other than the Urika, but that was supposed to be pretty good. I'm now living the cliche of having a new record collection. The additional information, dy...

Re: Ground hum issue

Problem sorted. Immense thanks to Fredrik for his diagnostic help. I am now using a two-wire (rather than three) lead to power the AC adapter for the Nano PSU. I felt a lot of resistance to doing this, but now I'm grounded, even if the power lead isn't.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I prefer the second clip. But since I have done the same comparison myself, I'm hardly surprised. Expectation bias? I went back and listened again, and heard that the Netgear had more boogie, more guts, less beauty. I ended up violently agreeing with tokenbrit :) So I'm repeating the comparison in ...

Re: Ground hum issue

Are the Hakai motherboards in separate cases? I've only the one Streacom case, so I've been swapping motherboards by using a screwdriver! The mismatch in motherboard effects is so odd - the boards are so similar in layout and content. It's not the motherboard itself, I now think. I (unintentionally...

Re: HAKAI NAS

Basic question perhaps, anyway... I believe I see a variety of SSD’s in your pictures FairPlayMotty: does that mean that it’s not so critical exactly which type is used for music storage space? My experience has been there's negligible difference in the sound quality of the SSDs holding the flac fi...

If you've got a Kandid, have you got a Radikal? If so, neither, go for a Urika. There's one in the for sale section... :)

Re: Urika for sale

Hurry, hurry, hurry! This is your opportunity to buy what is (in my opinion) the most musical phono stage Linn make. Yes, I've heard a Urika 2, it didn't float my boat... more clinical and less emotional.

Re: Ground hum issue

Update: The hum is more accurately described as a whistling or rumbling, i.e. it pulses rather than stays absolutely steady. It is more pronounced when I use the 3050 motherboard, compared to the 3160 (i.e. the motherboard has some influence). It is only present when both Entity and Hakai are powere...

One just needs to pick an ATX power supply that sounds good.
Are there any current recommendations, and is SFX any good? I tried powering a Hakai with the old Seasonic ATX from my LSNAS, and it sounded good. EDIT: but not as musical as the Nano PSU.

At this time of life, trying to squeeze something more from music by trying different NAS boxes is a step too far for me.

Re: HAKAI playground

Sorry, FairPlayMotty, but you have lost me. It's very easy to get lost in these comparisons and therefore it's important that we simplify and keep an extreme attention to detail . Both when rigging the alternatives, recording them and accounting for the actual differences after the voting on the cl...

We've used the same boards and cases, no problems here so far.

Re: Ground hum issue

It's been an interesting evening. I know there is an extra ground cable supplied with Entity, but was reluctant to use it, as I presume it slightly reduces performance of Entity. So I've been looking for the root cause. The hum was only occurring when both Hakai and Entity were powered up. First att...

Ground hum issue

I have a mild ground hum issue with my Hakai. I've tried various things to eliminate it: powering Hakai from a socket far away from the rest of the system does not help, but disconnecting the USB to the Gigaport DAC does. Disconnecting Hakai also works. Is this likely to be related to the Nano PSU I...

Re: Entity MC

I'm feeling some sadness for ThomasOK. I mean, imagine plugging in Entity to discover you've got a DOWNgrade :) I conducted no rigorous comparisons, and have heard no other phono stages apart from Linn. I've used a Urika for about five years and was very happy with the improvement over the MC board ...

Re: Debian/MPD: Recent/Latest Versions?

A few months ago, when I was tearing my hair out at the difficulty of getting my Hakai working as intended, I sold an almost complete (minus DAC) Hakai including an Intel 600GB and a 3050N motherboard. My loss. I've since bought another 3050N motherboard, and it replaced the 3160N in my Hakai today....
