Re: Speaker Placement Tuning

I think we misunderstand the purpose of this forum or at least I do according to you. Please correct me. I believe that the purpose of this forum is to reach a level of understanding so that we can enjoy music as much as possible. Correct? Did I say anything else about this purpose? If the purpose ...

Re: Forum issues are discussed here

I value this forum. From being, some years ago, a contributor to several forums, I have reduced my activity to this one exclusively. Recently I have contributed less. One reason is changes in the nature of some posts, or should that be some participants? The Linn forum was closed, but not before a p...

I listened to blind clips of these two and Entity won easily :)
Urika 1 is by all accounts better than Uphorik. My Entity blew away my Urika 1. Not even close. So I don't see how "similar to Entity" is more than salesman's talk... :)

Re: upgrade path

I'll jump in with a few thoughts. First, you have only one source. If that is correct, why are you looking at an ADSM rather than an ADS? The ADS will probably be better as a pure streamer. My opinion is based on a comparison between KDSM Katalyst and KDS Katalyst at the Linn factory. Certainly at K...

I now have an answer from Streacom tech support: the ZF240 also ties the output ground to the mains ground, so it will have the same issue as the Nano PSUs.

Re: Windows 10 music server stoppages

Yes, I was using Asset, under both Debian and Win 10. Several years ago, I preferred Asset musically to minimserver and Kazoo, so have stayed with it. Today I've got Volumio running using control points and Asset - and suffered very frequent stoppages! But moving to Volumio via a fileshare seems to ...

Re: Power supply

It would be nice to find a cheap and musical class II power supply to replace the Nano 160. Failing that, does anyone know whether the Streacom ZF240 is class II? It is not cheap, nor are the Streacom cases into which it fits. But in the context of my system, it's not completely unaffordable and wou...

Re: Volumio.

I've recently been reinvestigating Volumio, since I'd gone to a Debian Stretch install with mpd. I've now gone back to Volumio with a couple of tweaks and I find it's better than the Stretch setup. The original version of Volumio that was recommended does seem to be the best. Of course it has issue...

Re: Windows 10 music server stoppages

Thanks, tokenbrit! I've tried that now, unfortunately to no avail, as switching between Win 10 and Debian 9 on the LSNAS has shown me that Win 10 is a bit more musical. Will continue to experiment, have just put Volumio back onto the Hakai, in place of Stretch, so I now have two flaky bits of softwa...

Windows 10 music server stoppages

Some years ago, I built an LSNAS. Under Windows 7 it would sometimes stop, i.e. no more music, and needed restarting from the control app. I was never completely sure that this music stoppage was Windows, rather than the control app, but the problem went away when I ran the LSNAS with Debian instead...

Re: The Linnofil Super NAS!

I did try Win 10, briefly, but not back to back with Win 7. I've been using Debian (with Asset), which I find slightly better than either Win version. Can I do a U-turn? Trying Volumio again in my Hakai, I couldn't get to find the music files. Figuring that network permissions were the problem, and...

Re: Karousel

The reason I feel it improves the musical quality of the LP12 is that there is a precise torque for the fastening nut at which the LP12 sounds the best. It is different with different nuts and so far I have not found a nut that sounds better there than a nylock nut so I always replace whatever come...

Re: Karousel

Does your top plate have the corner bolt? I’ve never heard a comparison, but I’ve wondered for a long time if it really improves the lp12 or just makes it more impressive? My understanding is that the corner bolt was introduced to make it easier to set up the LP12, i.e. for the benefit of the deale...

Re: CIRKUS Vs KAROUSEL TAKE 2 (Results day is 20/08/2020 22:30 GMT)

I'm going to go rogue. I've found clips useful in the past, despite being a cynic as to how much of the in-room experience they convey. I've come round to using them myself to help me judge small increments. Some I've posted. But here we are dealing with clips for which I can hear differences but no...
