Re: The Linnofil Super NAS!

Cheers David, thanks for answering. I will look into the threads you mention 👍 Regards Paul You're welcome. If you want to ask more, please do, either here or via PM. I feel your pain about your dead Ikemi, I had one and it was a wonderful piece of kit. The LK boxes were a work of art, and the Ikem...

Re: The Linnofil Super NAS!

Hi, I'm in the process of buying an Akurate DS-system after spending many years using an Ikemi and I'm looking to buy a NAS (and rip my CD collection). I stumbled upon this thread and am very intrigued by the evidence showing that components upstream of the HiFi components influence SQ. Frankly I w...

Apple Airport Express

I understood that the Airport Express provides a wireless link to the main router and thus the outside world and/or other sub-networks. I only use an LSNAS as a filesource, so this should have no bearing, if it were my system. I can't see where filesources are discussed in the review, except the ref...

Re: English Electric 8Switch (Audiophile Network Switch)

Yes, the magazine is out, and I've read the review. The link provided earlier does not give the full picture, because it is only part of a joint review of two switches, and the first review of the Russ Andrews RANS-1 (which was not included in the link) explains some important context. I hope it's o...

Re: Entity MC

Hello and welcome, Bubba

I have an Entity, which replaced a Urika. I'm in the north of England - I used to be in Scotland. If you wish, I'm happy to talk to you via PM or phone call, and offer some pointers. And post-lockdown you'd be very welcome to listen.

That said the switch could be a real improvement. I just cannot tell for sure......
I too heard it at the Bristol show. I know that in my own system the GS108T is more musical than the GS105. And the GS105 in the Chord demo sounded more musical than the EE switch....

Re: New Karousel Vs TigerPawTranquillity

Going to the Cirkus from the original bearing system was impressive, but the Karousel is an even bigger improvement. I'm guessing if you tried the new Karousel bearing system, you might just like it more than you imagined. Cheers +1 Now that I've had the Karousel for a few weeks, it's getting smoot...

Re: Karousel

I preferred the Karousel clips to the Cirkus ones when ThomasOK first posted them. Not everybody agreed and I was left wondering about the limitations of clips, as to me, the Karousel clips gave me the essentials of what I hear in my room. In other words, a fundamental improvement. Now there seems t...

Re: ATC SCM40

I can't help you very much, as I've not heard those particular ATC speakers. After that disclaimer, let me try anyway. I've heard, several times, the more expensive SCM50s. To me, they vary significantly depending on amplification and source, which is another way of saying that source first is the w...

Re: Playlist

This lockdown is expensive! When I thought I was going to be without my LP12 for a long time, I bought quite a few new CDs. The standout has been the Schumann Quartett's trilogy of albums on Berlin Classics: Landscapes, Intermezzo, and Chiaroscuro. Now the LP12 is back sooner than I'd hoped, I've bo...

Re: The Linnofil Super NAS!

I did try Win 10, briefly, but not back to back with Win 7. I've been using Debian (with Asset), which I find slightly better than either Win version.

For anyone interested: https://www.dynavector.com/etechnical/505manual.html Thanks for the picture, Charlie1! Just to round out my system, I'd add a Nakamichi 1000 cassette de...

Re: a bit of fun

A good bit of nostalgia! I'd go back to 80/81 and re-create a system I had then, but with three changes. The turntable would be the same, LP12 with DV505 and FR-7, the speakers would be Saras, and the amplification Naim. First change from then-reality would be proper speaker stands and cable, no mor...

Re: David Neel's magical system

Was there anything that you've done recently to the Hakai to get it singing, or did the lockdown just give you time to appreciate it?. Hakai has been singing since November, when I settled on Debian/MPD/upmpdcli. I've now forgotten which versions, as I haven't been tempted to tweak since, although ...

Re: David Neel's magical system

Haha! Yes, it's a great journey. I remember forty years ago, I felt I'd arrived at the destination with my LP12/DV505/FR-7/Naim 12s/250/Gale 401As. But the vinyl I had then sounds so much better now... so I'm sure there will be more I can do. Hopefully without too much expense. Apart from the sheer ...

Time for an update. The system is now: LP12/Booplinth/Karousel/Keel/Akurate Radikal/Ekos SE/1/Kandid/Entity LSNAS/Hakai Kremlin (occasional use, I've no external aerial at the moment) Nakamichi BX1 (very occasional use) Sagatun Monos Tundra Monos Graham LS5/9s These are strange times, and being in l...

Re: Karousel

Certainly the Karousel sounds better in typical Hi-Fi terms as it is letting you hear more information than before, but I find that it tunes better as well and to me there is no sense of artificial detail that I find the bane of much current audio gear. You can just hear much farther into the recor...
