Re: LP12 Priorities?

Thanks, Charlie1. Yes. the Entity is more cost-neutral, and yes, my Linn dealer will help out. And yes, I was remembering your experiences of balancing a cartridge downgrade with an upgrade earlier in the hierarchy. I can try for a Radikal comparison, but Ekos SE to SE/1 is more difficult. In theory...

LP12 Priorities?

I'm prioritising my next LP12 expenditure. So if anybody can help my thinking along... The LP12 is close to the ultimate spec. Possible upgrades are: Ekos SE to SE/1; Majik Radikal/D (the very early casing) to Klimax Radikal; and Urika 1 to Entity. I have heard Urika 2, and whilst it is cleaner and ...

Thank you Thomas and Fredrik!

Would either of you like to share thoughts on the musicality of Lyra cartridges vs Linn Kandid, via Entity? I am in need of a new cartridge...

Re: Entity MC

However, two of the impedances are the best match for the Linn cartridges, 180 Ohms for the Krystal, Klyde, etc. and 120 Ohms for the Kandid. The decision to add the switch came in part due to a concern from a couple of my dealers who sell some MC cartridges with very low internal resistance. Since...

Re: Entity MC

I'd be very interested to know which cartridges were used during testing of the Entity, and what comparisons were made with Urika or any other phono stages.

Re: Small top quality floorstanders

I'm thinking of paying Brian and Trevor's a visit in the near future. Have your Graham's shown a significant improvement over your Linn speakers? I've now got a pair of Tundra monos and with the KRDSM/E found a significant improvement over the previous setup. 1. Good idea! 2. Very significant, I co...

Will they also reconsider analogue pre?

Luckily it doesn't matter. A Sagatun or two will do the job better!

Re: Small top quality floorstanders

The Graham Audio LS5/9f looks interesting and appears to be about the right size. Amazing lack of info on it, even on GA's own website. I'm very happy with the LS5/9 on the end of Sagatun and Tundra Monos. If you want to investigate the LS5/9f then Brian and Trevors is very close to you. Or you cou...

Re: Debian 9 Stretch

Thanks again, tokenbrit. I had found pkgs and it was from there I downloaded the .deb file which wouldn't install. But now that I have 21.13 working and loads of dependencies updated, I will give it another go.

It's good, but it's not "right" yet....

Re: Debian 9 Stretch

Thanks, tokenbrit - I did post that I needed a kernel upgrade, but trying to get putty to respond I must have randomly hit a key which resumed the process (!) so I deleted the post - and I now have MPD 21.13 running on Stretch, without a kernel update :) It's a very significant improvement on 19.21....

More help needed!

More help needed. All has been working. The MPD version was 19.21, the latest available (?) under stretch experimental. So I want to try 21.11. I tried installing a downloaded .deb file, and I get a long list of unmet dependencies. I can also download tar.gz file or a zip file, but can't work out ho...

Re: Debian 9 Stretch

I've had to up the buffer from 256 to 512 to avoid stuttering. And take a long walk in the late afternoon sun to blow off the frustrations of working with the debian command line :) So only a few tracks in right now. Initial impressions are very good. It's useless to compare with my memory of Volumi...

Re: Debian 9 Stretch

If you have Asset on your LSNAS, then your Hakai is not connecting directly to the music files on your NAS, and you don't need Samba. The media (music) server and mpd communicate via http, controlled by your chosen control point (& upmpdcli) - see here for a visual... Thanks for the visual. It seem...

Re: Debian 9 Stretch

I have a Debian Stretch Hakai, and followed Sopper's instructions. The one thing I did a little differently was I installed mpd first with apt-get install mpd. This installed an old version, but set up the environment correctly. I then built the version I wanted via the instructions which went over...

Re: Debian 9 Stretch

That walk was longer than expected, so no further Hakai experimentation, except for thinking... Situation: I have an LSNAS with two SSDs, one with Debian 9 as the OS and Asset UPnP as the server, and one NTFS SSD with all the music. This works fine with Kazoo control point and ADS/3. So I'm assuming...

Re: Debian 9 Stretch - Help!!

A couple of weeks ago, I rebuilt a Hakai. I have installed Debian 9.9, and MPD and upmpdcli, following Sopper's instructions. I did the mpd.conf file as much as I could, awaiting an ESI DAC. Now I have it, and I have followed all the instructions with the exception of "You need to modify the mpd.ser...

One Hakai here. After a while away from the project, I have rebuilt a Hakai using the 3160 motherboard and Debian Stretch. Just need to get it working now, and with my record on configuring Linux, that may be some time....

Different, aren't they? I think I'll be in the minority here: although the N1 foot-taps better, I'm rather liking the N2.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I haven’t listened again, but because I’m a bit of a lone voice in the wilderness (:-), I’ve been wondering if I’ve been seduced by something in the sound which I’ve confused with enhanced musicality? Hopefully, time will tell. FWIW, I too heard that and speculated about how they would both sound i...

Re: Testing MC step up transformers

I'm intrigued by this approach. Way back in the 1970s I had a step up transformer with an FR-1 cartridge. How does the use of a transformer and a modified Slipsik 7 contrast with the "MC Slipsik" previously discussed?
