Re: Netgear GS108T Power Supply

I’ll definitely keep working on it - I’ve not got much else to do at the moment! The version everyone liked was: BYW98-150 diodes (no longer available), 5 x 1000uF 35V Panasonic FM capacitors, Texas Instruments UA7812 voltage regulator, Kemet 0.01uF tantalum capacitor. The latest version was: STTH 3...

Re: Netgear GS108T Power Supply

Here’s the latest version (Mk 6) compared to the Netgear smps. The only difference is that it uses a Texas Instruments TL780-12 instead of the TI UA7812C. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/uzi54nxb47dl303/AADLp4CXHJVIthwqBvdCtrGKa?dl=0 I don't know which is which, but number 1 is more tuneful to my ears. ...

Re: Karousel

Thanks for posting Hermann.

Based on your 2 comparisons, I think the Karousel sounds excellent. Linn are going to have to work overtime to keep up with the demand!

Re: Some observations from cd replay

With respect to the importance of controlling vibrations, I’ve just come across this, posted on the Naim forum: Simon-in-Suffolk I had been dealing with fibre in audio one way or another since the mid 90s, I am reasonably comfortable with its strengths and weaknesses - the issue is not with any medi...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Bloody hell beck! You need to write a white paper on how you’ve managed to coax so much music out of an old CD player!

It was between B & D for me too, with B winning the honours 👍👍👍

The Journey Continues

Here’s the latest version. Enjoy 😁

It’s the same as the previous version, but uses only 7 filter capacitors and is tidied up a bit.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

First of all, what a great system you have there kallesprätt 👍

I’m going to go for No1. Even though on the LC track the bass doesn’t seem so well controlled as No2, generally it feels more musical to me.

Re: Netgear GS108T Power Supply

It’s good to know that it’s not about what’s going back onto the mains. No, in my experience this rarely accounts for the majority of the differences. It will, however, make SOME "noise" on the mains that can disturb other units. So the effect you mention is not Zero. To evaluate how much, let PS n...

Re: Netgear GS108T Power Supply

I think it all can be related to how all the equipment we use (cables included) cope with the vibrations it produce by itself and the vibrations coming from the outside. Vibrations interfere with the power running in the prints and cables by creating different electric fields around the same. How e...

Re: Netgear GS108T Power Supply

Yes, definitely. It’s really surprising how much of an effect the power supply to the switch has. So much so, that I’m wondering if all I’m really doing is finding a combination of components which injects the most musical (or the most complimentary, or even just the least) noise back into the main...

Re: Karousel

Hermann, Re: Torque. The way Karousel is affixed to the sub chassis is new, so the old rules may no longer apply. Since we don’t know if the recommended torques are related to sound quality or material strength, may I suggest that you experiment with the torque by starting with the absolute lowest s...

Re: Karousel

Thanks Tom - most informative. Surprised you didn't post the link to part 2 of the discussion: https://youtu.be/PGNiXGX2nLU - it really adds a new spin to the beloved old fruit box that is the LP12 and explains why the existing Klimax sounds dead in comparison; the Karousel so much more alive. Ah, ...

Re: Netgear GS108T Power Supply

I think I'd rather listen to music on your PSU Spannko. The Netgear seems too battened down to me and a bit boring. I hadn’t thought about it like that, but I know what you mean. I suppose Linn will have done the best they can within the realms of their influence, or chosen influence. But it appear...

Re: Netgear GS108T Power Supply

Yeah, only the music changed. I’d say you’re about right: the musical difference is only slight (if at all), and the sound difference is swings and roundabouts, as we say in old Blighty! However, it’s really a test bed which will be used for further experiments when the sound has finally settled dow...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I think maybe the 160 has dipped off in the second recording. So many variables, including the old iphone which is now being used by my daughter to communicate with friends - I sometimes forget to disable the wifi for example. I think unless I record at the same time then too many things can change...

Re: M140 to Akudorik upgrade advise

What do you think is it worth changing my current configuration (Kdsm/2 Katalyst, Klimax chakra 500 twin(D) and Akurate 242 / mk2) to Katalysted Exakt Akudorik setup? My Kdsm/2 and Twin would go in exchange these Akudoriks and 242 would sell separately and get that Akurate exakt hub for that money....

Re: Netgear GS108T Power Supply

🤣 thanks beck 👍 Buying my system was literally a leap of faith, and I think (hope!) I made the right choice. If linn made a musical network switch and Ethernet cables, it would have worked perfectly from the beginning, which in my view would be a good business decision for Linn cos I’ve heard some d...
