Re: Random thoughts on hifi

I'm with the science on HiRes. In my view the one really good thing to come from the HiRes movement is a whole array of digital remasters that are often better than any CD of the album. Science? What science? Can you provide links to the “science” please? Also, can you provide examples of “digital ...

Re: Asus Tinker Board

One of the main reasons why is the board's internal DC-DC conversion, which turns the single voltage from the power supply into multiple voltages that feed all the circuits on the board. If the DC-DC conversion chip is bad, or its implementation not well executed, the board doesn't perform any good...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

The Beatles sound great on everything!

However, on track two and three the vinyls were quite a bit better than the CD versions.

Re: Replacement unit for Linn Kan 1 (B110)...?

You’ve got several options. A) Contact Falcon Acoustics in the UK. They have the rights to manufacture the original B110, but Linn did their own modifications to the B110, so you may not get an exact match. B) Look for an old Kan B110 on eBay, but there were several B110 specs and modifications so y...

Re: Karousel

Does your top plate have the corner bolt? I’ve never heard a comparison, but I’ve wondered for a long time if it really improves the lp12 or just makes it more impressive? My understanding is that the corner bolt was introduced to make it easier to set up the LP12, i.e. for the benefit of the deale...

What I meant to say was that Linn’s lack of attention to detail these days is truly shocking!

Re: Akurate Radikal tweak

Very interesting! The view round here is that Linn don’t care about maximising musicality any more (which I certainly don’t agree with), but now Linn are re-routing a cable to improve the musicality of the AkRad. Go figure, as they say over the pond.

I don’t know how this would work out, but what about setting up a vote for either A or B, so the “silent majority” can participate easily and anonymously?

Re: Karousel

Gonna cost you!!! They are up to 6 quid now :( Six whole pounds? I remember the day when I could catch a bus to Ikea, buy a Lac and still have enough change out of a fiver for a large roe and chips with a pickled egg on the way home. PS Pre-Cirkus if you don't mind ;) Oops! Sorry, I keep forgetting...

Re: Karousel

The drumming is excellent, but only on the Cirkus deck. Within two drum beats, it’s obvious the Karousel isn’t in the same musical league.

PS. It looks like the Lac is your support of choice these days Charlie1, and your enthusiasm for it has encouraged me to try one out again sometime 😁

Re: CIRKUS Vs KAROUSEL TAKE 2 (See Results)

You went for a dem and didn’t take notice of what you were listening to? Hmm. It would have been helpful if you did! Since that’s the worst performance I’ve heard from a Cirkus, I’d say there was something wrong with the setup. I’ve never heard an lp12 mess the music up so badly, even badly set up ...
