Re: Lingo 1 recap result

Good points, Spannko! However, I believe that "more detail" is worthy of a more critical evaluation. Why? Because it's not just a positive quality of the reproduction, it's also an illusion created by errors in the reproduction. That's why I wrote "perceived detail". For instance, if one adds a tim...

Re: Lingo 1 recap result

IMHO, not only is there nothing wrong with being able to hear more detail; it’s something I quite enjoy. However, as we know, musicality is way more important than any other HiFi evaluation criteria, and of course they may, or may not be related to one another. So, more or less detail doesn’t necess...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

Good Evening All, I've just seen this almost simultaneously via Peter Swain and here. Yes it is good news BUT there is a bigger picture here. This is the same firm that announced a price rise and then cancelled it and allowed themselves to stop producing streamers and have now re-introduced them. A...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

By now, I really shouldn’t be surprised by any differences I hear, but the network switch comparison has caught me off guard. How can something like a switch make so much difference? It’s crazy! It’s also quite disheartening that the Cisco has generated such a following because I wouldn’t mind betti...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

I had not planned on posting another video yet as I still have a little thing or two left to do with my system. However I was listening the night before last and just had to record this. This is not a comparison, consider it a document of a work in progress. https://www.dropbox.com/s/0durf9rqvo4t2b...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

there is more to come since I know now how to do it. But its strange how different it sounds even compared to the recordings on the phone. The first time I listened to the files on dropbox through the links provided it seemed my system plays the file too slow. Yes, it’s worth reiterating that our c...

EDIT: Thinking a bit more, I’d rather have a Katalyst KDS/Melco/Innuos, with your current amp/s and speakers, in preference to an Akurate DS, with any amps and speakers.

Was Debian9 installed on a Tinkerboard S ?

Re: "Dual mono" and True Dual Mono

I know very little about electronic circuit design but I’m wondering if the “protective earth” causes more problems than it solves? To help you understand my thinking, here are a few thoughts bouncing around my head: 1. Take a simple circuit - battery +’ve > wire > bulb > wire > battery -‘ve This d...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

If we are talking about the Ortofon Red I cannot follow your dealer at all. It may be the most musical Ortofon mm cart but even the old AT95 was more musically satisfying.... I feel a dealer breathing down your neck Spannko! :-) Ha ha! Thanks beck. There’s another one crossed off the list then.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Have you ever compared a K9 to the Adikt Spannko? I am slightly wary that my old Valhalla/Ittok deck was voiced for a lively up and at 'em AT cart. I do know what you mean to some extent, about the new AT carts. The K9 just seems very 'right'. If i had the option to get buying new K9s then that wou...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices

Sorry guys. I know I’m in the minority here, but so far my opinion of the 95’s is that they’re all pants and that none of them can bang out a decent choon. They might be ok for £40+, but that’s just about it. I think that I can confidently say that all of our expectations are for something considera...

Re: "Dual mono" and True Dual Mono

Completely separate grounds for the left and right channel means that the only place the grounds of the two channels come together is at the AC power strip or the wall. Even equipment that is dual mono in construction normally has the left and right signal grounds connected together. This is easily...

Re: "Dual mono" and True Dual Mono

So I'm not sure how you would take the connection closer to mother earth. I suppose one possible extension of the separate left and right grounds would be to have another circuit breaker and AC wall outlet so that you could have one channel on one circuit and one channel on the other, keeping the g...

The arrays are silver.

The stands are the solid one piece type.

Unfortunately, no boxes, but they may be available from Linn.

I’d put my money on a nude elliptical too, but I’d also put a two way on us both being wrong! Experience has thought me that reliance on “knowledge” can lead us down the garden path! Hm. So you put all your money on the nude elliptical and the same amount on it being the wrong choice? That means yo...

Re: The Mighty AT95E Becomes The AT-VM95E

Ron,

Do you think that the lower cost AT95’s represent the state of the art (musically speaking) or are they just great value for money? If someone was more concerned with maxing out musicality, how much do you think someone would need to spend in order to improve on the 95?

"Dual mono" and True Dual Mono

[Split from "Playground for practical listening exercises"] Thomas, I’m interested in how you achieve “completely separate ground plane(s) for each channel”, and where the connection is finally made? (Unless they’re fully floating, if that’s the correct term). As you know, I’ve been fettling with m...

Very interesting Ron. Thank you I totally agree with you Re: post Troika cartridges. I totally loved my Troika, but felt the “upgrade” to Arkiv was embarrassingly bad. Lovely music Thomas.

It is actually a shame that we cannot see the system (unless you are hiding something!).

Re: AT Unleashed

They are much closer to my ears now and I'm properly enjoying music with the ML for the first time - it seems to have cleared some threshold for enjoyment. The K9 still makes a bit more sense of it all but this is still great fun. Charlie1, I agree. Ron The Mon I totally agree with you both. The AT...
