Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Any plans to move the Ninkas out? Can't imagine they help the sound if they're just sitting there... Also, any dampening on the piano strings when not in use / while the hifi is playing? The piano resonances might confuse the recordings, but quite likely make the in-room sound good. Yes I'll defini...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
wow Beck thats not bad at all I even like some qualities of the CD playback more than on the LP12 +1 Beck, you've worked some magic on that CD player! Having musically compelling lp AND cd replay in the same system is not automatic and throwing money at the problem can even be counterproductive- es...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
MUSIKALISCHE ist für mich am musikalischsten. You can actually hear pitches of the bass line in addition to the rhythms being better delineated. The repeating percussion motif has a great sense of tension and the singer's diction (such that it is) gets more meaning across - I was surprised by the am...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Here’s another couple of woofer clips. Same bass units, but this time filtered at 90Hz instead of 2000Hz. One of the woofers is about 120mm dia, the other about 200mm dia (that’s about 4 1/2” and 8” for our imperial friends) https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B1253qWtHuohvLT 200mm would have to ha...

Re: Hermanns System
Both very good, but I’m going with C-2 for this pairing - while C-1 had more sonic pizzazz, C-2 was its better in musical communication. C-2 by Tune Dem, and that’s the one I’d choose to learn the why's and how's of music both familiar and new.

Will give this a spin over the weekend, and perhaps some of my other recently purchased vinyl if time permits. https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/6462/6462749_sa.jpg;maxHeight=640;maxWidth=550 Such a beautiful album cover. Re: Hermanns System
A3 and B3 for me, like tendaberry noted. 1 is runner up for both tracks, but what made clear my choice for 3 was the recurring motive in Rabih Ahbu Khalil - duh duh-duh duhhh, duh duh-duh duhhh. On 3 you could feel the delicious syncopation of the final “duhhh”. B1 rather overplayed its hand and obs...

https://thesoundofvinyl.us/products/the-black-keys-el-camino-box-set Hi Tony! May I ask how these pressings are - quiet surfaces and not overly compressed mastering I hope? (A lot to ask of current vinyl I know) There's a Christmas shopping list that would fill out nicely with this as the headliner...

As for the musical examples, the A selections were my favorite. The beginning and ending of notes were better defined, and to me there wa...

I agree inside/out was tougher to choose. I ended up seeking outside help. TUNE DEM MAN came to the rescue, and showed me the way - INSIDE!

B. The first time I listened to each was at a background level through my iPad speaker - there didn’t seem like a compelling difference between the two. Using decent (ESS 422's) headphones with the same Apple device and playback set at a performance-like volume level, it was clear that B was very mu...

So based on the prior set of recordings by Thomas and a purchase spurred by Herman of this forum, I decided to give this a go with a more current ECM recording by Nils Petter Molvaer “Khmer”. https://www.dropbox.com/s/n4ikczdujq4zfxg/A.mov?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/q35g1esjwnu86cc/B.mov?dl=0 T...
