Re: Urika II

I'm using Urika II into a KDS/3 (in an otherwise passive system) and can echo teatime's comments. It's definitely from the same stable as the original Urika but is better in all ways, both tune and 'hifi'.
I feel II is better than the original by a fair margin.

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

Does anyone know how to show the SO2 calculations in Konfig on a MacBook? One of the members on the ‘new’ Linn forum on the Wam has been doing something like that. I don’t know if he uses a pc or a Mac, but I think the files are .xml so it shouldn’t matter which OS you have. Have a look at the Spac...

Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

I’ve not received anything about the development forum. I’ll go and sulk in the corner... Mick I got one. I will do my best to pull a few strings, getting an invitation to you (and to others in same situation) Sorted now. I emailed the helpline with an ‘fao’ for Simon, and have heard back now. Seem...

Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

I think the email was sent to anyone who had participated in any beta program past or present. I think they may have realised that they would miss that input. Time will tell whether abolishing the forum will cost them sales. I’ve been using beta firmware since they started making it available. Mayb...

Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

Good bye Linn Much as I regret the disappearance of the Linn forum, I think that we should continue to assess any and all Hi-Fi products by their performance by the kind of standards and criteria that are promoted on this forum. I'm not going to stop enjoying my Linn systems because I can no longer...

Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

This is very sad and I am convinced that it is a wrong decision of Linn to take. Sad because a enjoyable and productive community is destroyed. Wrong decision because it slams the door shut to a significant customer base who believe that an open support forum is essential for a technology based com...

Ah well - ‘twas fun while it lasted. Glad that they will, at least, continue with some form of access for beta testers.
I’ll miss the easy access to Linn folk though.

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

So with an accessible XML file it should be possible to edit that file to tweak stuff, albeit in a not-very-fancy way... Mick Afraid not! You can extract the XML file from Konfig's log file, but you have no way to upload it back into the DS. Unless you reverse engineer how Konfig uploads an optimis...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

It seems that firmware updates for the Selekt are applied directly from the internet, there's no intermediate storage on the computer hosting Konfig. I expect the other DSs will follow suit in a later Davaar update. That'll be an end to people collecting (and sharing) their favourite version of Dav...

Re: KDSM/2 as a DS

DSM is one ‘number’ behind the DS equivalent, so both KDSM/2 and KDS/3 are Katalyst. True for Klimax, but not for Akurate. ADS/3 and ADSM/3 are the Akurate Katalyst model numbers. The difference arises IIRC because, when the HDMI 2.0 board was introduced, the KDSM with this board did not get a new ...

Re: KDSM/2 as a DS

Hi, I have heard a back to back comparison between the KDSM and the KDS3, There is a small improvement to be gained by owning a KDS3, but Linn and many owners are going for the extra connectivity and flexibility that the KDSM offers. To clarify, are you saying that the non Katalyst KDSM/2 is virtua...

Re: KDSM/2 as a DS

Apparently not, going by what I've heard. If true, the KDSM is still unlikely to be very far from a KDS so I'd not worry if I were you.

Re: Upgrading Linn DS units

Now that the Lejonklou streamer is definitely on the back burner and Linn have sadly declined to offer future upgrades to DS units , or upgrade existing DS units to DSM, owners of KDS /2 or the non katalyst ADS have difficult choices to make. Should they upgrade to Katalyst , whilst Linn are still ...

Re: Upgrading Linn DS units

I upgraded my KDS to Katalyst when it was first available. The comparative dem took moments! If the upgrade and cash is available I'd say go for it. Linn discontinuing the model doesn't make it a worse performer. I intend enjoying my DS indefinitely, and don't look to its future value.

Folk wax lyrical about one or the other, to the point that you likely need to hear for yourself. I use an SE/1, but if at the time of purchase the Aro had been a current arm I would have listened to both.

Re: New Linn Forum

I think the 3rd party modifications in the LP12 section was a brave move, given that it was assisting other folk to produce alternative turntable bits ‘n’ bobs which could have impacted on Linn’s income, although as in most other aspects of the internent most folk appeared to be at one extreme or an...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

I do think it’s a shame the DSs are going. I’d have thought it worthwhile to maybe just keep the KDS going as a flagship, no compromise digital source, even if Majik and Akurate versions are to go.
