Re: Optimum ripping solutions

BTW, did someone compare the ripping engine of the new macOS Catalina to the "old" iTunes ripping engine?
Maybe the new one is even better in tune dem?

Re: Asus Tinker Board

I've been curious about HAKAI for quite a while now. Not because I'm unsatisfied with my KDSM, but mostly curious about how good a DYI project like this could actually be. Also, since I spend quite a bit of time in my home office, I would like something better than my computer for music. But HAKAI ...

The new Raspberry PI 4 has been launched:

Maybe worth to try vs. Tinker Board and Hakai.

Re: Thoughts around a Lejonklou Streamer

The issue for me is that indeed the DAC is like the cartridge on a turntable - the converter of acceleration to current or of a digital stream to current (or voltage) - but where is the LP12 of digital transports? Maybe this one? https://www.whatsbestforum.com/threads/taiko-audio-sgm-extreme-the-cr...

Re: Thoughts around a Lejonklou Streamer

After a Lejonklou demo in Göteborg we discussed Hakai and DACs. Fredrik was not too interested in making a Lejonklou USB DAC because "the streamer is much more important, the DAC is as the pickup in a vinyl playback system". But you are doing phono amps so why not do a killer DAC to be used with di...

Re: Entry Level Lejonklou MC

The EMT's have 1 mV of output, right? I'm afraid none of my MC phono stages will be able to handle that. They are all built around a very high gain input, so the maximum level of the cartridge becomes 0.4 mV. A perfect match for low level MC's. I'd have to start from scratch to make something suite...

Re: Is aktiv operation best in all respects (same quality amp)?

But to my ears the brutal tone controls of speaker cross-overs have yet to be improved upon. Donuk, yes and I prefer the simplicity of two-way speakers. Regarding the cross-over I believe the best design is a series filter a la Klangedang but such a design is not always applicable. Anyway, IMO a pa...

Re: Entry Level Lejonklou MC

I'd say go with the design you're most thrilled with yourself - which looks like #3? If the Slipsik case of option 3 would appear to be too small couldn't you fit all into a black casing as suggested in option 2 - so stereo version with torodial transformer in a single black SINGularity format encl...

Re: Entry Level Lejonklou MC

Instead of bringing a stronger musical thrill and insight, the phono stages (and HiFi) of the last decades have tried pleasing audiophiles and their focus on detail, resolution, clarity, dynamics, soundstage, low noise, low distortion, blackness between notes and all of that nonsense that none of u...

Re: Is aktiv operation best in all respects (same quality amp)?

I did try the Kabers initially with the c3200 bi-wired but that was at least 6 months ago and it wasn’t linn speaker cable. I should maybe try them single wired with just the k20 before I start removing the crossovers etc. The experience of Fredrik and other members of this forum is that in a passi...

Re: Is aktiv operation best in all respects (same quality amp)?

As you're on the Lejonklou forum, it would be remiss of me not to suggest that you first listen to a Lejonklou Tundra Stereo single wired passive in place of your bi-wired Linn amps. I suspect it would be significantly more musical. I'm not joking! +1 Maybe an even better sounding solution would be...

Re: Absolute Bargains???...

What tune-dem listening evidence have you that 24/192 sounds better than 16/44? What other DACs have you directly compared to the Khadas? Have you connected a 1/8" to stereo RCA cable from your Mac directly to Exposure pre-amp to directly compare? Ron, I never claimed that 24/192 sounds better than...

Ron,
interesting.
Did you compare SQ of Mojave vs. Catalina?
I thought Catalina will be launched in autumn.

Hi Matt! Did you compare this DAC to ESI Gigaport? If so, what were your findings? Hi Fredrik, not yet. During burn in of the Khadas I was a little bit unhappy and considered to do it.. A second reason is that I am listening to a free trial of Qobuz Studio which allows streaming of 24/192 and AFAIK...

I like to recommend this DAC: https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/diy-dac/khadas-tone-board-generic-edition-es9038q2m-dac-module-usb-xmos-u208-spdif-32bit-768khz-dsd256-p-13062.html USB and SPDIF inputs. JBL3677s: How many members listen to them?

Hi,

I am very happy with them but I know that some members here have sold them.

It would be interesting to know which members actually listen to 3677s in their set-up.

Thanks

One that caught my attention is the Serene composite plate made of two sheets of metal held together with damping adhesive. I’d certainly expect it to be more rigid and ring less than a stock top plate. The LP12 top plate is designed like an inversed flat spring. Most third party top plate designer...

Re: ECM records start streaming via Tidal, Qobuz etc.

I would have thought that different mastering would only effect overall sound. Can it effect musicality too? In your comparison you compare both HR vs. RB and Qobuz vs. Tidal at once. So I think you can not get a valid result regarding Q vs. T. Better comparisons: Qobuz HR vs. Qobuz RB Tidal RB vs....

Absolutely correct Matt
Do you think you can repeat the comparison with RB Q vs. RB T?
Sometimes the high-res. files are differently mastered.
