Re: Four years in the making
Congrats Fredrik and co. Sounds like a lot of hard work has gone into this. You must have learned a lot. Look forward to some pics.

Re: Digital Sources: Is the LP the best digital source?
File fragmentation was mainly an issue with old file systems used on spinning disk media in the last century, leading to on average worse disk performance over time. It's much less of a problem on modern file systems and a complete non-issue on SSD (and NVMe) drives, yet file fragmentation worries ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Good idea and was worth trying. What about beck's masking tape suggestion? We don't have any at the moment so can't try it. Mind you, that probably won't have any effect unless you've remove the Lack's insides.

Re: Digital Sources: Is the LP the best digital source?
Data isn't music. Music is a mental process. You are very much involved in it and your expectations will influence your experience. And just like people convinced that a difference is impossible, will often not hear it, people who expect there to be, often do. I trust Thomas' and Fredrik's ears mor...

Re: Digital Sources: Is the LP the best digital source?
Yes, the 1s and 0s are all the same, some like to call the process "lossless" because of this, but the music is changed. It appears at this point that we just don't know enough about all the factors involved in the music recreated at the end of the chain to measure some of the important things invo...

Re: Digital Sources: Is the LP the best digital source?
Without revealing too much about things I am not supposed to talk about, it has been found that a file can be transferred from one place to another, measure the same on both ends, yet sound quite different depending on what is going on in the chain of devices it passes through - even though they ar...

Re: Digital Sources: Is the LP the best digital source?
Interesting question. Some thoughts... 1.) I suppose we don't know to what extent the master tapes have degraded since '87 - assuming your friend used an original vinyl release. If they have degraded by a noticeable margin then, to my mind, source first tells us that an original vinyl release is now...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Thanks for all the feedback. Decided I prefer the Lacks (just) so moved the Tukans away from the rear wall a bit and the amps are also warmed up now... https://www.dropbox.com/s/machsywf5d90fph/20210415_202901.mp4?dl=0 Not such a wall of sound (maybe due to less wall reinforcement) but more tuneful ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Top clip for me. The bottom clip feels too out of tune, regardless of what else it does well. Interesting you pick up on that. There is an 'out of tuneness' about this system in this room (even with the wallshelf), especially at low volume at night and with digitally recorded material. I'll see wha...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Think we've been here before but wanted to do clips again as I'd installed the deck straight on the wall shelf due to lack of LACKs and it sounded good to me. I assume they play the same frequency cos a single crossover card is feeding 2 drive units but I don't know for sure 🤔

Storing older CDs and streaming those should be fine though, shouldn't it? Can you describe what you're noticing?

Thanjs for sharing your story PetterS.
Glad you're fully enjoying your music at home once again.
Any thoughts on a phono stage for the Thorens?

Re: Amp and other upgrade options...
Hi snatex, just be aware that the order in which you install the cards makes a difference. I once felt that Ninkas with passive 6100 was more cohesive than aktiv. But advise followed on this site lead me to re-install the cards in a different order and then aktiv was always as good or better. Also, ...

Good to hear Tendaberry. I feel I'm missing out somewhat but it is what it is.
