If you're not enjoying vinyl as much as you once did then definitely question the Urika II approach and consider Entity/Tramp 2.
If you are enjoying your system very much then Radikal 2 upgrade makes most sense to me.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
A for me.
Particularly on the last track, the bass in B seems slightly disconnected from the main melody.

Do ya reckon they'll start with Psychocandy by The Jesus and Mary Chain?
I know Linn aren't into blind listening tests but perhaps they should make an exception this time :)

Re: Source First theory and how far to take it?
The nearer my system is to the way I like to hear music reproduced (musical: ie, tuneful and harmonious) the less frequently I find I’m not enjoying it. It feels like the only component in my system which lets the side down at the moment are my diy loudspeakers ☹️, but the better they get, the long...

Re: Source First theory and how far to take it?
Being exhausted is not one of my triggers either. In my opinion, it lies in the background of the current mood, the causes of which I see as a trigger, the inner mode, so to speak. As soon as inner attention is "dispersed", emotional filters may create gaps in relation to external perception, which...

I’m not surprised after cycling that far! Have you not got a car or motorbike :D
I don’t really do exercise, unless you count a couple of 15-minute dog walks each day.
It’s a good point though but don’t think it’s tiredness related (for me) - I am pretty knackered after most work days.

Re: Source First theory and how far to take it?
Thanks for sharing Hermann and glad I’m not alone. In answer to your question, the two modes reflect times when one type of musical presentation is making a lot more sense over the other, either early-Linn/Naim or later-Linn/Lejonklou. But I need to add a standard mode where both make good sense, wh...

Re: Source First theory and how far to take it?
They are different systems in different rooms. It’s a good thought ref time of day but I’ve also noticed this with recordings on my phone, so one day a recording might really flow and the next the same recording might sound quite stilted and the timing all off. Nothing has changed but I’m experienci...

Re: Source First theory and how far to take it?
Wanted to add to an existing source first thread but shocked how quickly the time has passed since the last post on this thread, back in 2011 ! OMG! Anyway, today's observation (a few years later) is that I've noticed on many occasions over several years that my brain can flip between the type of sy...

Re: Gaio 2.4 into Linn Kairn Aktiv Kaber system.
Thanks for letting us know how you got on, especially Gaio vs Kairn. I tried the VM540ML for a short while. The Hi-Fi stuff improved as you'd expect so it was cleaner sounding and had more punchy bass. However, whilst AT confirmed it should be OK on my Ekos, it didn't engage me like the previous VM9...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Thanks for sharing Hermann! I don’t often read ahead but couldn’t listen to the clips at the time and was keen to know what folks thought. I listened to clips 1 and 3 only. I preferred B especially clip 3. I felt 1A using the original caps had more flow and sense of ease, probably cos it was so well...

Ok, clear now.
I suppose if you’re buying it second hand then you won’t lose out, so happy days either way.
Longer term it’s well worth saving up for Slipsik 8.

Re: Gaio 2.4 into Linn Kairn Aktiv Kaber system.
Fair enough, hope you feel better soon. If you listen to a lot of vinyl then recommend getting Slipsik and spending less on a preamp. As much as I enjoyed the Gaio, I doubt it will be a lot better than Kairn (and you are asking if it will ‘blow away’ Kairn) although Kairn isn’t big on transparency s...

Re: Gaio 2.4 into Linn Kairn Aktiv Kaber system.
How does Gaio compare then Rod?
Do you have the final Kairn PSU version? Late version Kairn MM can still sound very good if amp is not too tired.
Slipsik 8 pulled a long way ahead of Gaio when I compared. Now got Slipsik.

Re: Speaker Choices for Lejonklou amplifiers…?
I can pretty much relate to this. I run A242 with Sagatun/Tundra stereo. They are somewhat analytical in their character on some recordings even with Lejonklou amps. They have a very neutral (cold) sound that lack base. That makes them a little boring to listen to in the long run. Maybe Tundra ster...

B for me as well on tracks 1 and 3. I couldn't get me ear into 2 so will take a pass on that.
Similar to Thomas, I thought the tracks sounded a bit muffed for 242s - not out of phase are they, or perhaps a phone case blocking the mic?
