Unless you plan to upgrade the cartridge in the near future, I'd stick with the Kairn phono stage.

Re: Opinion LINN LINGO1 v, LINN LINGO 2,3
Ah, OK, the "12 volt Lingos" refers to those powering the 12 volt AC motor. That would make the Lingo 4 a "24 volt Lingo"!

Re: Karousel installation warning
Tom O'keef's torque recommendations for the Karousel bearing cap is 2.4+Nm. The top nut for the Karousel is 3.4Nm. Using the approach recommended by the OP, the bottom cap will tighten to 3.4Nm as the top nut is tightened to this spec. No getting around that. Maybe that's why things sound different?

Re: Opinion LINN LINGO1 v, LINN LINGO 2,3
The early Lingo 2 was the Lingo 1 innards in a wider case. The later Lingo 2 had the new surface mount main board in the wider case and was supposedly superior. The Lingo 3 (2.5) was the later Lingo 2 innards in the even wider case. So there were really only 2 of the 12 volt Lingos (1 and 2.5) The L...

Re: What causes high capacity in MM?
With the load recommendations for modern carts, the Lejonklou capacitance seems like a very sensible value, keeping in mind that a typical tonearm's cabling will be 100pF or more. Agree, this is true for most modern cartridges. The frequency response plot for the Shure M97xE in the above link appea...

Surprised no one's mentioned the venerable LS3/5a. Bought my first pair in 1981. Swapped in and out many others since but keep going back to them.

I lasted about a minute. When Gilad started talking about hearing things you’ve never heard before................ I wasn’t inclined to want to hear any more of his marketing blurb. I posted this on that "other" forum, but it's so funny and applicable to this discussion: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Re: The conclusion of digital volume regulation
The logical conclusion to this discussion is that a simple potentiometer between source and power amplifier would give the best sound. Several posts and reviews on various fora have claimed otherwise (ie that an active preamp produces a better sound than the simple potentiometer). Numerous explanati...

I didn't bother doing anything to the bottom bearing cup when I installed my Karousel. Does it come correctly torqued from the factory?

Slipsik 7.1 ground arrangement
Hello: About to introduce my Slipsik 7.1/AT VM760SLC into my system (Linn LP12/Ekos 2, Naim NAC252). The Ekos T-Kable has a ground wire which connects to the Slipsik ground lug. My question is do I need to connect the Slipsik 2 ground lug to the NAC252 ground lug (my Linn silver interconnects from t...

Re: Cartridge dilema
Any thoughts about buying a 2nd hand Klyde or Dynavector Karat 17D (I had those waaay back with my akito, lingo and linto). I just don’t know how they are 2nd hand, how long they last. I replaced those during an upgrade frenzy. I would never buy a used cartridge - too many people out there with 10 ...

Re: Record player for daughter
I think the current obsession with vinyl by the young is a passing fad. New records are very expensive and used records are a crap-shoot (who wants to listen through clicks and pops and scrapes). Most importantly, most of the younger generation have the attention span of a gnat and the audio discrim...

Re: Linn Lp 12 orientation springs low frequency swing
Adjusting the springs doesn’t change the fundamental bounce frequency, but it can remove the overtone oscillations of the subchassis. That's interesting Fredrik. I find that when my springs are out of adjustment, the bounce frequency appears faster than when they are adjusted optimally. This could ...

Re: Cleaning Linn Axis motor pulley
My understanding is the motor is the same in the Axis and LP12. Sounds like the pulley has got corroded. The aluminum polish sounds like the best idea. Not really. The connections are completely different and so is the pully itself. You are correct, the pulley has a slightly different profile as th...

Re: How we define "good sound"
What do you think was going on with Richard Dunn to make him hate Linn so much? How do you square that away? Well, back in the day NVA was seen as a viable alternative to NAIM amplification but the bulk of the flat earth HiFi press-of-the-day would have none of it. So his commercial success fell vi...

I think that would be a great idea to get accelerometer measurements to help diagnose "bounce" problems.
I'm not sure stiction would come into the equation with springs (unless the springs were sticking to the grommets).
