Re: JBL 308P and 708P

I've had both Katan and Kan stands to my 308 and for me the Kan stands perform best. A friend used Akudorik stands with 308 which also worked great. It is really night and day difference comparing with the flimsy stands that they sometimes are sold bundled with (JBL does not make official stands fo...

Re: JBL 308P and 708P

Thanks Jacob, did you or someone else compare these to the passive ones, the JBL 708i? Matt 708i isn't really your typical passive speaker. Think of it as a 708p but with the amps outside of the speaker rather than inside. It is constructed to be used with the Crown rack-mountable amplifiers with D...

Re: JBL 308P and 708P

As an owner of 708P, here are my thoughts. I previously used the 308 which is a fantastic speaker especially considering the price. Before 308 I had 3677+Tundra (but in a different room). I agree with Fredrik that 3677 require the right room to shine. Mine was pretty big with acoustic treatment (hom...

I doubt that lipsync delay on the DS affects NETAUX. Probably only hdmi.

Re: syncing Youtube with Linn streamer

Linn has a very poor Airplay implementation that does not support the auto sync protocol. Done properly, the Airplay sender and receiver should negotiate when audio playback should start based on the video player. This is the only way to get a proper sync as the video/audio start is likely to change...

Linn Kisto, Silver

Kisto is Linn's best home cinema pre-amplifier and probably the best multichannel preamp ever built. Thanks to the analogue 7.1 input, Kisto can be connected to a bluray player and playback the latest high definition sound formats like Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD Master. Internally, Kisto decodes all for...

Re: The meaning of Source First

I just don't want to live with the compromises that taking the principle to extremes brings with it. No principle should be taken to the extreme. I went to a local hifi dealer the other week. This is a non Linn dealer. They had a couple of different digital streamers ranging from $200 to $10000. I ...

No, but I owned the 345 for a couple of years and although it is a great subwoofer I am pretty sure it would work very bad with 3677. It just isn't good enough.

Re: JBL 3677

Some words about "Lack of bass". 3677 is built to be used with a subwoofer. They don't produce any bass below 40hz and they start rolling off at 80hz (this is the normal crossover point between L/C/R and subs in a cinema). I use a single JBL 4645C subwoofer (18 inch) to cover 22hz-80hz. This is a gr...

Re: JBL 3677

Has someone compared the 3677 to its bigger brother, the 3678? Matt It is very hard to make a decent comparison of these speakers without first buying them, burning them in for a month and then comparing. So I am not going to say that I am 100% certain about the performance of the systems other tha...

Re: Tundra Mono 2 in a Cinema?

I heard from Fredrik that there are some readers of this thread that are thinking about ordering the JBL 3677. I feel that I should clarify a few things. * Despite their size and big woofer, the 3677 is not a full-range speaker. They are tuned to be used with a sub and I would not recommend using th...

Re: Tundra Mono 2 in a Cinema?

I have owned one poweramp in the past that had adjustable idling current - it was a NAD 320 from Hifiklubben. Ok! Was the adjustment on the outside? How did one know the setting and which the optimal value was? No, it was on the inside. Impossible for the user to trim, it had to be done in the stor...

Re: Tundra Mono 2 in a Cinema?

The only thing I'd like to question is that most amps have an adjustable idling current. Lots of them don't have anything to adjust whatsoever - the idling current depends on the accuracy of a couple of fixed components. Thanks for correcting me on this detail. I have owned one poweramp in the past...

Re: Tundra Mono 2 in a Cinema?

Here is part 4 of my Tundra Mono 2 review. Break-in My first experience with the Tundra Mono 2 was a blast and I was very excited to hear how the performance would change during break-in. Sagatun monos into a home cinema system, is that something do able? I read "Tundra Monos" (need to sleep more). Re: Tundra Mono 2 in a Cinema?

The question remaining is what kind of stands I'm going to use..? Omg they're heavy buggers aren't they? Oh yeah! They are huge and heavy. Two people are required to carry them safely. Finding a speaker stand that can take their weight is going to be tricky I think. The best way is to construct a c...
