Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

I was looking more at the subsequent spin-offs of their attendance rather than the overt reason for exhibiting. Perhaps seeds were sown at the time.

Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

In the light of the forum's move to HiFi Wigwam, Linn's unexpected attendance of the Wigwam show last March (a show for enthusiasts' systems rather than trade exhibitors) can now perhaps be seen in a new light.

Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

Now here's a turnup for the book. Along with no doubt many others on their mailing list, I've just had an email from Simon Chisholm at Linn announcing that, following the demise of the main Linn forum, a Development forum will shortly be opened for the use of beta testers. I shall certainly be join...

Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

Well said. One other aspect not mentioned so far is the loss of all PMs on the Linn forum. I corresponded privately through the PM utility with a number of other members worldwide and much useful information was archived in these messages which is now lost. Secondly I rarely visited Linn's own websi...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

A prime example of "less is more". On every system I've come across, and there's been a few, it's sounded more musical when SO was turned off. I usually hear immediately when entering a room whether SO is being used. When I ask the owner if he can switch it off, I often get a sad, sceptical look and...

Re: New Linn Forum

One thing has always puzzled me. Tune Dem is used as the only permitted means of evaluation here. So, who is to say whether you used this method or not?

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

On second reading. There was a lot on DSD support, which seems very important in the US market. I wonder if Gilad mentioned that it's only supported on the Katalyst version? And that it's not compatible with SO? Or, and this would be quite important, does the new SO get around that? AFAIK, DSD supp...

Re: Linn forum down?

Indeed, Sweden has long had a reputation for tolerance and of being a place of refuge for dispossessed souls. Parallels may be drawn with the current situation!

Re: Linn forum down?

Returning to the OP, it seems to me that Linn have set a precedent in suspending the Linn forum. There is nothing to stop them from repeating the exercise at some future date when the "next major launch" is due which makes its function all rather precarious. Meanwhile it is important that temporary ...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

The Selekt is reviewed in the October 2018 issue of HIFi+ by Alan Sircom. It has only just arrived so I haven't had a chance to read it.

Is that ALL this commotion has been about- another effing network player?! It looks distinctive but of no use to this user at all.

Re: Linn forum down?

"and if the forum returns I don't expect it to be the same as it was." That's certainly possible, my thoughts as well. It's all down to the shoddy way in which Linn has treated its most loyal followers, not just casual customers. If this is the way we are rewarded then they don't deserve the loyalt...

Re: Linn forum down?

The suspension of Linn's forum has struck home that in the end it is the manufacturer's forum and users are their mere playthings. The Lord giveth... This move leaves a very sour taste for their loyal band of followers and I don't think things will be quite the same thereafter. Maybe they are up for...

Re: Linn forum down?

I didn't know they'd stopped selling dynamik PSUs or repairing KKs. Obviously the forum is not working for me as a way to inform customers. If correct, then that is very poor indeed. If you're someone that purchases Hifi every 10-15 years then that's pretty rubbish and not befitting of an £8k inves...

Re: Linn discontinues all analog preamps!

So Linn have some preferring Exakt and others agreeing SAgatun Monos are better, so I would be interested as a genuine survey like to identify who would now spend over £8000 on a KK Please add your names to this list if you wish LInn to continue making it. I would have prefered Linn to have made a ...

Re: Exakt: my experiences

When doing the 242 comparisons it became most obvious that there was a kind of flat, dull and lifeless quality to the music when in Exakt mode. It didn’t engage you, it didn’t pull you in, it didn’t get your feet tapping and it didn’t evoke the same emotional response that the system did when runni...

Re: New Exaktbox Speaker Mappings

This sounds very much like Devialet's SAM speaker mapping model. Through the Exaktbox (either 6 way Klimax boxes or 10 way Akurate box), Linn are now supporting a much wider range of speakers for Exakt. The full list is here ( http://www.linn.co.uk/systems/technology/exakt#upgrade ) and now includes...
