Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

Hi Thomas, I haven't made that comparison. I did have a Sleipner bottom shelf before however and I experienced a significant improvement in musicality when changing to the Schabrak II. It may be worth noting that Anders has a Schabrak II as the bottom shelf of his new BORD shelving unit which I beli...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

Thomas, considering your expertise I have no doubt you will get the best out of your new shelves. One thought though is that "Schabrak II" requires a new (thicker) base. On the clips it looks like you have the previous base Sleipner. My experience is that "Schabrak II" makes the biggest musical impr...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

Hi Thomas, I changed my Mimer K for Trud and it was a no brainer for me. Trud was more musical. Listening to your recordings however certainly gives the impression that "A" is better. Anyway, I have now changed all shelves for Trud in my Harmonihylla and I reuse my Mimer K top plate in the' new "Sch...

Re: K2 Dingle

Tendaberry, The Radikal2 brought out details (we experienced a playful interaction between the instruments) in a Sinatra track that we didn't experience when listening to the Klimax LP12, but my LP12 was more 'rough around the edges' in its presentation than the Klimax LP12. So what was lost because...

Re: K2 Dingle

Hi Sunbeamgls, Yes, they were production versions. I was at Tonläget HiFi in Gothenburg. The system was Klimax LP12 with Kandid and Klimax DSM Organic (couldn't say what amplification he was using I'm afraid). We were doing a comparison between Anders' demoex Klimax LP12 (original Klimax Radikal) an...

Re: K2 Dingle

I was listening to them yesterday. Very transparent as I experienced them. It was as if they had no character in of themselves. A bit disconcerting in a way, but remarkable really.

Re: Harmonihyllan

Spoke with Anders yesterday. The shelf that sits directly above the Schabrak II on the Harmonihylla has advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that you get an extra shelf to place a component on and the shelf protects the aluminum shelf from coming on contact with something (e.g. cables) w...

Re: Harmonihyllan

Fredrik, Trud bettered my Mimer K top shelf. The music was just more fun with Trud. I am currently replacing all my Oden's with Trud and have ordered the base for Schabrak II and will re-use my Mimer K and current base in order to build a Schabrak II base with the current base as the new upper layer...

Re: Harmonihyllan

After recently discussing the bottom shelf of the Harmonihylla with Anders, I can confirm that with the exception of "Bord", all bottom shelves are now sold comprising of three parts, an upper part e.g. Trud or Oden, which a component can be placed on, a middle part for damping, and a lower base she...

Re: Culprit - The phono stage?

BSilviuLuc, those shelves look quite heavy mate, are they? I've found the LP12 to be quite sensitive to the furniture it's placed on. I believe Linn recommend lightweight rigid furniture. Some of the experts on this forum are more qualified than myself to comment on this, but if you have an IKEA sto...

Re: Assistance with Linn system hub choice

I’ve not done a side by side comparison so I am unable to comment. I can only tell you what my Linn dealer thinks. I would say that I trust his judgement though. Nonetheless there are other Linn dealers using this forum and who are better positioned to answer your question that I am. What I can tell...

Re: Assistance with Linn system hub choice

The Selekt has features that the Akurate doesn't e.g. Bluetooth. It's also built according to Linns modular design philosophy, which the Akurate isn't, meaning components can be upgraded at some later point. It also means that should you regret taking the Exakt pathway you can easily upgrade your Se...

Re: Assistance with Linn system hub choice

Hi, my understanding from my Linn dealer is that the Akurate Hub is somewhat better than the Selekt Hub. I have an Exakt system (Akurate hub + 520 speakers). In my view it's a very musical system and I am very happy with it. I have an Akurate LP12 in the system as well. It's important I tell you tha...

Re: upgrade path

A spicy xmas thread, and not for the faint hearted! Returning to the threads original theme I recently bought a 520 Exaktsystem with ALP12 (+ Harmonihyllan). I'm very happy with the system which replaced my previous Ikemi/Majik/Keilidh system. I was at Tonläget during the summer and I listened to a ...

Re: Karousel

I've had my ALP12 with Karousel for a few weeks now and for me it is a completely different beast compared to the LP12 I had 20 years ago (with cirkus). I would suggest that they cannot even be compared, the difference is that big.

Re: Karousel

Fredrik, Thomas, I appreciate your replies, thanks. I will keep what you have both written in mind. At the end of the day I think it is worth testing a situation in which all three assumptions hold. If it can ultimately lead to greater validity when seeking to compare different HiFi components, e.g....

Thanks for responses. At first I felt convinced by the source first explanation. As I understand it, this explanation suggests that having an initial step that retrieves a high degree of musical information from a source recording results in a more faithful audio reproduction of the source performan...

Re: Karousel

The Karousel deck sounded more cohesive to me. It's a point when I stop paying attention to the parts and just experience the whole. I didn't have that experience with the Valhalla deck. I've been thinking though that something is not strictly right with our use of recordings of audio playback as a ...

Re: CIRKUS Vs KAROUSEL TAKE 2

Both tracks were musical and rhythmic. But something special happened here that hasn't happened on previous listening tests I have done on this forum. When I heard Playstation for the first time (2 plays) I thought it was significantly better than fudge (also 2 plays). But then, when I listened to f...

Re: Karousel

beck, Charlie1, thanks. I am very much looking forward to getting my new system, so everything is good. The biggest issue for me is in fact getting the network setup right (nas, switch etc.) for the Exakt system. I will have only 1 LP12 so no possibility to compare decks or come to any conclusion in...
