Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

Sorry to hear about your struggles. This service worked very straight forward on the storage/sending side, while in contrast registering with dropbox had some obstacles to overcome, as in: climbing the stairs to fetch my mobile in order to do the two factor authentication. But it appears like the ea...

Re: What Exaktly does a DSH do in an Exakt system?

Just to add some experiences to my question. Whatever the DSH does, the impact of the Organic DAC is huge. Meanwhile, I replaced my Akurate Katalyst Exaktbox by a Klimax Organik Exaktbox. Not a cheap replacement, but my courage to commit this investment paid off. Actually, one of the biggest improve...

Re: Lingo 4 upgrade

I'm stunned. So much more details, details I've never heard before. Also, the background is much darker, pops and clicks are diminished considerably. Also, I could sense a wider soundstage, and somehow, don't know if it's the right word, sound became a little warmer, bass is more controlled and tig...

First of all thanks @John who posted files from MediaFire, a free service unknown to yours truly, which encouraged me to share some clips here. When calculating the price of the Organik DAC board as "price of NGKDSM" minus "price of NGKSH" then the price of the upgrade is a steal.
The cost driver is the real Scottish cookie box. If you ever tried Scottish shortbread, you know it comes at a price, even with a cardboard box 😜

Meanwhile, I'm back from Kiel, and my "Frankenlinn" XLR to RCA cables are installed. Works like a charm in my system. No noise whatsoever. Very musical, Mission accomplished!

Re: XLR to RCA cables or adaptors?

A quick status update, and a word of warning to those who followed this thread, or surface it later searching for advice: Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my new Klimax Exaktbox Organik for a few weeks, using 3 pairs of Linn RCA silvers with XLR to RCA adapter, which my friendly dealer lent me for the time b...

Interestingly, the specs of the much cheaper Pro-Ject Measure it E looks quite similar.
Any experiences with either of them?

Re: Reliable (digital) scale for VTF adjustment

Thanks Thomas, sound advice as usual. Obviously, I have to be more patient with my cheap scale ;-) I tried to replicate the measurement with a screw and if I wait long enough, the value finally tunes into +/- 0,01 gr. I don't think this is up to the tides, it's rather the scale, haha. I'm not saying...

Re: Reliable (digital) scale for VTF adjustment

You certainly have a point here, Defender. The spring has its inaccuracies as well. I believe to remember that my old Panasonic scale had a 1.5 g calibration weight, which is certainly more suitable for the use case. The ultimate test to sort out spring vs scale would be, to measure this weight seve...

Reliable (digital) scale for VTF adjustment

Hi all, today I tried to improve VTF with my newly acquired Ekos SE/1, using a cheap digital scale, that boasts accuracy of 0,01 g. What I noticed, however, is that the displayed results are hardly reproducible. They jump around by up to +/- 0,03 g when the arm is repositioned on the scale. Calibrat...

Re: A tracking weight experiment for LP12 owners

Thank you @Tendaberry and @ThomasOK. My expectation was wrong, and the arm lift obviously works as designed 🍻 Usually, I would have heard the LP12 at my dealer's, and learned such things but due to the issue with the spring we were running out of time, as I had to rush back home. Meanwhile I played ...

Anyone running an Akiva on Ekos SE/1 yet? Well, well. so I volunteer. Very preliminary results: Ekos SE/1 with Akiva (Torlai refurbished) ITF 1,70 (short, maybe 1,69) MTF 1,80 (cheap digital scale) AS 1,80 I did'nt go further to adjust the counter weight, cause I'm keen to listen to some new record...

Thx for your empathy @moog_man. Re: XLR to RCA cables or adaptors?

If you have three early pairs of the unbalanced Linn interconnect, I consider it essential that you compare them with one another. One channel at a time, listen to and rank the six cables. The reason is that you might find that one or two of them sound really awful and one or two are incredibly goo...

Re: XLR to RCA cables or adaptors?

Normally when ordering Klimax exakt they come with 10 meters of balanced cable and the dealer specifies what connectors are required. Thx, anthony. I did not know this. Still, using an unbalanced cable appears to make more sense in this particular case, when pin 3 of the XLR output is left floating?

I agrre, Tendaberry. Re: XLR to RCA cables or adaptors?

AFAIK, factory made Linn Silvers are superior to diy ones. So I would not touch them but do the XLRs to RCAs with new unbalanced Silver cable from the roll. Hmmh, in this case one might as well conclude the opposite, i.e. that keeping the factory made RCA connections, and just replacing the XLR sid...

I wouldn't consider the Neutrik transformers, just solder Linn Silver unbalanced with Neutrik XLRs and Neutrik RCAs according to Fredrik's recommendation, that's it. That's my plan. Re: XLR to RCA cables or adaptors?

Not to connect the earth of the source to the cold RCA pin makes sort of sense to me. Do you suggest to keep the XLR output's earth floating? The earth potentials of both devices should be connected via the power cords anyway. Plugging them into the same power strip does help. What I don't know: Is ...
