Odd indeed that two separate builds using different motherboards run into the same, unusual issue. Glad it’s solved! Checked the Hegel DAC interface for sake of good order and that’s at 100%. I’ve just finished another build, using an intel DN2800MT motherboard to use as a dedicated Spotify Connect player. This unit also plays “not loud” through the Gigaport. Tinkering will continue... That aside, I found the positive response to the Hakai + Hegel DAC in the playground very interesting....

Yeah, I’m holding back the reveal a bit longer, hoping for a few more players to join.

What I can reveal is that I find these comparisons very difficult myself.

The plot thickens... With a windows PC into the Gigaport it’s plenty loud. The Hakai into another USB DAC is also loud. The Hakai into the Gigaport isn’t. Black magic territory... Edit: the Hakai+Gigaport volume is sufficient for the vast majority of circumstances. But something strange is going on.

Having done a few initial experiments the only firm conclusion is that the Gigaport has a rather low output volume. To the point where I’m running out of amplifier if I’m in a party mood.
