Re: Opinion wanted | Replacing a Kairn for center channel and sub or just improved stereo
If you live alone or are only two people sitting in the sweet spot when watching movies the only benefit a center channel has, goes away. But if you are a big family with 5 persons someone always gonna sit on a less good place for enjoying the sound. So you might have to compromise. Exotik and Kino...

Re: Opinion wanted | Replacing a Kairn for center channel and sub or just improved stereo
Hello Ninth Wave, It’s often said that if you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll never get there! With this in mind, where do you see yourself going with your system? What’s your end goal? When you know this, deciding upon the next step is relatively easy. I totally agree... But unless you get s...

Re: NinthWave's system
Four years later, here is an update of the plant rack.
If you skipped the whole thread and ask yourself why post this in the "me and my system" section, it's because this whole plant rack improves the room acoustic by damping the reflections in the 9' patio door.

Opinion wanted | Replacing a Kairn for center channel and sub or just improved stereo
Consider the actual system in my signature which I own for a while now. I have started to think about upgrading. My main goal is definitely music but I also watch movies. Sometimes, I'd like to have a center channel (AV5120) and a sub. I really don't care for the full 5.1, 7.1, 9.1 or ∞.1 I am not e...

Re: ESI/Linux/HAKAI Context
HAKAI is a do-it yourself project for enthusiasts , assembled from off the shelf parts and relying on linux, an open source OS made from enthusiasts . ALSA is also developped by enthusiasts as it is linux based. The Gigaport HD+ is not yet defined in the ALSA driver and, given that ESI-Audio would s...

Re: Please write ESI-Audio and ask a driver
I have reached a deadend on the ALSA part of having the ESI Gigaport HD+ to be set at 2-channels only and be able to play 24/96 files. For those, if any, who are not aware of that, there is a Windows driver which allows to select 2-ch and set the Gigaport HD+ to handle 24/96 files but there is no s...

Re: Using Aktiv Stereo cards with non-Linn amps
Hi. Thanks for the tip! Yes, I've seen it. But I already have the cards and I'm not sure there is an aftermarket for used Keltik cards. I guess I could try and see if someone wants the extra set of cards. Just to be sure you saw the right product. There is one with the keltik cards included but als...

GIGAPORT HD/HD+ in Stereo 24/96
Knowing this “logic”, now we have to find someone who knows how to adjust or “hack” the sequence of the checked parameters, so we can enjoy 24/96. I do want to use the full capacity of this DAC but I am not linux competent enough to do it myself so what I did is: Created an account on Alsa-Project ...

I have the one I borrowed from ThomaOK and I am in the process of assembling one with components that differ from the original lineup and that I want to compare while I have Thomas's. +2 I'd like to mention that the Supra USB cable cost me, delivered: 75 C$ Ouch! @Beck What do you mean by "too sugar coated" ? Because it's Norah Jones? When I visited Thomas OKeefe, I heard this song on different vinyls press and different cables and different speaker placement and I found the piece was "well balanced" in the sense that it was easy from this piece to hear audi...

Quite the setup, you obviously have some woodworking skills. [...] It seems like you should call it the Rack Room - Hi-Fi rack, coat rack, plant rack, cat rack - a lot of racks. [...] Those are some of the prettiest Ninkas I have seen - really lovely figuring. I'm sure the plants make for better so...

[...] The Ninkas seem quite a way from the rear wall but so long as you're enjoying music then why worry. This brings us back at compromise. I got the second amp afterward and secondhand. Hi NinthWave! Did you design the plant rack yourself? It looks nice. I also saw the cat now. lol I'm not sure about this though: We live three in a 90m2 condo so it needs to look like a family apartment, not a man's cave. Surely you're not suggesting that we make compromises?! :) Not exactly. While...

[...]Seems to me you're best bet is a source upgrade. Have you considered the Hakai self-assemble streamer? 'Lego' has one and he runs Kairn with Aktiv Ninkas. He's delighted with the combination. What speaker cable and interconnects do you have? What's the budget? Is the Hakai that good that it wo...
