I think you mean question it's efficacy rather than use I hope. The former is fair enough. The latter is a little too extremist for my taste.

Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

Actually without being morbid I think it is all part of dumbing down of the audio industry to stay alive. Actually I can foresee Naim and Linn no longer existing in ten years' time because of 1) company follies 2) the changes in home entertainment 3) the forthcoming financial crisis in the UK Hope ...

Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

Timster, I have written something similar. I love your request to be a Beat Tester. Has a nice touch of tunedem about it! Cheers Donuk Boom chicka boom chika boom I actually don't want to be a device Beta tester at the moment - it depends what they are testing, although I am in Konfig beta. chicak ...

Gilad's Linn email address.
Don't want to post it publicly but you could guess - not even sure if it's right. Hasn't bounced back yet though!

Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

Maybe a letter to Gilad. I've sent this: Dear Mr. Tiefenbrun It was with great sadness, not to say dismay, to hear of the decision to close the invaluable forums. While I understand the resources to keep such an active community alive and relevant had gotten too great, the community and knowledge it...

Re: The Linn forum is officially dead

Perhaps all the Beta testers would be kind enough to repost the development forum threads on the Wam! And how does one get on the Beat tester list now? I have Konfig beta turned on but no email. Perhaps when you select device beta, the linn cloud machine will automatically generate one? One has to w...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

I'm still intrigued and interested in the question posed by my good friend, donuk. Define musicality in the context we're talking about. I expect Fredrik to lead with this one but I know he's really busy. (will probably pop up now and make me look daft!) ok then... Musical understanding: Dylan play...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

Without online support through the forum, things will be harder for Linn. The helpline will be inundated, which means any support will be a long time coming. I have already reported two things, neither of which have been responded to. So for now, until WigWam is up and running: Does anyone here know...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

it was markedly more musical (wider soundstage, more engaging mids, less muddy bass) I say there is no correlation between the sound being more clear/less muddy and the reproduction being more musical. In fairness to Timster, I don’t think he’s saying his system is more musical because of the wider...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

We seem to have come down to semantics. What one calls "musical" seems to have a different definition for another, so we're possibly talking cross purposes. If you're talking about "musical understanding" as an abstraction from the experience of listening, in the same way artistic understanding is t...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

As sunbeam said. We can only speak from experience. Before SO arrived my (admittedly very different from now) system was good. I did add room treatments of a sort (if you can count rugs on the wooden floor and throw over the back of leather sofa) and it improved. But once SO arrived, even in it's in...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

We can all agree that preserving the original is the intention, because reproduction is never perfect. But that's not preserving it is it? So you say "preserving the musical signal" is key, then which signal? That created in the recording studio? By each instrument? How it was recorded - or what co...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

I'm sorry Music Lover, but you are either missing the point or not understanding it. If you're suggesting prevention is better than cure then of course no one can argue with that. In principle. But hey, it's not a perfect world, and no room is ever perfect. Compensating for room modes is the only an...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.

With the new SO is it still possible to load earlier firmware versions in Konfig? No, I think you have to have Davaar 65 (or whatever the current version numer is) to be able to apply the new style SO from the web. Davaar 65 is only available for Selekt. Currentl Davaar for everything else is 64. N...

Re: KDSM/2 as a DS

KDSM and KDS variant numbers don't match because there was a board upgrade to the KDS and ADS to become the /1, and that was before the DSMs existed. The reason the KDSM has only got to 2 and not 3 (as for the ADSM) is coincidental - the HDMI board upgrade occurred at the same time as Katalyst. Thi...

Thanks!
The only time you'd want to do that is with Exakt/SO+. Non-Exakt the effect will be the same as turning SO off.
So the question will become relevant when SO+ v2.0 arrives!
