Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
Well, once you know the filters you could at least tweak an existing V1 profile by adding custom filters and adjusting filters within the given boundaries. What I find surprising is the shape of the new filters. Less cut but much broader. Sound is impacted across a wider area of frequencies. No long...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
Previously the frequency and bandwidth of each mode filter were identical between left and right speakers, now it seems they can be different (which makes sense). Impressive, thanks Phino. One correction though, different frequencies and bandwith for left and right speakers had been possible for qu...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
Agreed, one comment though: the Linn calculated filters are independent of volume. So what Philbo is actually stating is to adjust the calculated filter manually while using the typical voume level. I wonder how that will work with V.2.0 when you won't even see the frequencies and their gain cuts. J.

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
I've never had a satisfactory answer to the question whether 'room modes' (which I understand as referring to distortions caused by the interaction of the music source with the room in which it is played) are dependent on volume level. My experience has been that SO settings that may improve the so...

Re: Upgrading Linn DS units
@Starman I wouldn’t invest into a discontinued product but either keep it as is or sell it as soon as possible. One advantage of Linn as I have seen it so far was the option to keep old products current by being able to upgrade as for the LP12. With the sunset of the KK and now the DS that promise i...

Re: New Linn Forum
Someone asked me for the old Linn 'How to Judge A System' webpage. It was a lot harder to find than I recall, so here's a couple of older versions for posterity: https://web.archive.org/web/20060528134239/http://www.knekt.com/buy_linn/HowToJudgeAHiFiSystem.pdf Thanks Charly, especially the first li...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
If you really wanted you could implement a Pay model, e.g. V1 for free, V2 access only via subscription. Or phase out Konfig and replace with a web only model or or or... Nevertheless i doubt this is the idea, customers would perceive it as the rip off it is and Linn would soon feel the consequences...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
To be fair I should say the new SO is now working for me as well (at least it worked eventually, after being stuck in 'updating' stage twice...). I have tried it only with a dummy room / position setting so far, so cannot judge the sonic benefits of the new model yet. But I still find it disappoint...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
Has anyone on here managed to get the new SO to work? ‘troll Yes, Moomintroll, I successfully completed an optimisation yesterday. You would have seen my floor plan in an earlier post. It took about 1-2 minutes to complete computation and on my modest system fronted by Majik 109’s I felt that the i...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
If Linn now distinguishes between Room and System they should do that consequently. Hence show Room when the label says room or change the label to system across all apps.

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
Kazoo also shows System in Room. I guess Linn are confused themselves... J. Kazoo shows the Room text not the device name. Which is correct if they continue with the "waiting for room" and Add room dialogues etc. Alexa also uses the Room name - which actually is probably wrong. It should be the dev...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
Yeah, it appears it was rushed out and not properly tested. Also not supporting yet their top-of-the line systems (the Exakt systems) is an indication of it.

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
Timster, I guess we have to wait and as I said, I hope it will work but it is very easy to apply changes that Konfig SO engine will not recognize but the FPGAs (or whatever components will handle the filter) will. And somehow I have the suspicion than Linn is intending to do just that, an elegant wa...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
I wish it were but doubt this will be possible. I think this is done on purpose to get rid of the mode tweaking discussions. It also allows to fix errors in the background without making them too visible. J. Konfig SO has an 'Create from system' option. So I don't see why not. It's only the algorith...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
Yes, it seems to me that when you assign a player on your Network to your Linn account, you can use its existing SO+ config. You won't be able to do anything with it, from within the shiny new webpage, so it seems to me a merely superficial cut 'n' paste. When I set up the new SO with my Kiko, if I...

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
I think it does state that you can import your Konfig settings and keep using them, albeit not modify with the Web version. But nothing stops you from continuing to use or even create new filters in Konfig (and import into the Web version if you like).

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
It seems though there is no graphical representation of the modes, actually one may not even know what the mode frequencies are. I guess they were fed up with all the discussions about fiddling with them... So it seems to be a black box approach, not sure I like that. I did change the name of my liv...

I heard rumors that Gilad was not amused about some discussions, e.g. Space Optimization, that did make the product (and hence Linn) not look too good.

Re: Linn announcements 9/2018, Selekt, etc.
I think it might refer to eliminating the DS products. And personally I did find it a bit confusing (DS, DSM some with, some without Exakt links, some with some without analog output). J. Exakt only output is renamed now: https://www.linn.co.uk/music-systems/klimax/network-music-player Matt If anyt...
