Please share your listening impressions about MoOde, I am very curious. Thanks Please share your listening impressions about MoOde, I am very curious. Thanks Matt I wish I could Matt but Moode went down the RPI road exclusively from memory. It's a shame because the reviews are very good. Who knows, ...

Re: How many Hakais are on this planet?

I now have two Hakai players and one Hakai server/player.

Greedy? For this quality of sound quality yes I am.

<t>My house move has concluded and I have much sorting out to do.<br/> <br/> As part of my break from unpacking boxes I will shortly post clips covering both the Hakai and the Tinker Board S. Re: Cables

The TB is really power hungry
That was my impression too after trying a few different microUSB power supplies. The one that worked best was £1.99 from eBay.

Re: Cables

Have I really managed to find two completely defective USB cables (that would make them my first two, ever), or is there something going on here that I don't understand? As far as I can tell, you can not claim to be a USB cable without supporting power transfer. What are you using to power the Tink...

Re: Asus Tinker Board

Could you elaborate a bit on "Much better sounding"? Clips would of course be ideal to support the claim. :) As soon as I conclude the new house purchase I will do. When I ported from Volumio to Snakeoil OS I tested extensively with one Hakai with Volumio right next to one with the latest version o...

Re: Asus Tinker Board

You've found Snakeoil OS better than VolumIO?
It's a much better sounding piece of software with more options and the ability to support an audio server as well as a dedicated player.

Re: GIGAPORT HD/HD+

I do agree with Ron the Mon on the low business interest of ESI-Audio to shell money on this but, given that some enhusiasts at ALSA-Project would do it free, I don't see why I should "curb my enthusiasm" and not even try to have something put in motion ??? You're right to have enthusiasm and posit...

Re: GIGAPORT HD/HD+

Everything I wrote in my last post was in the context of what was written prior in this thread. Specifically, NinthWave (and thread-starter FairPlayMotty) is asking a well established company to help him. How can there be any harm in asking for a relatively minor piece of development? Most Apple he...

Re: HAKAI NAS

Just for testing purposes I have tried to see the limits of the Gigabyte motherboards and the number of SSDs they can support for a NAS or music server build. Re: Asus Tinker Board

I'm not about to buy both to compare but was wondering if anyone had thoughts on whether the Tinker Board would sound any different to the latest S version if using an Intel 320 SSD. Wish I had side by side comparisons but I don't. As your chart shows, there are a few differences between the boards...

Re: Asus Tinker Board

AFAIK, the Tinker Board S is not sold with a PS, so what did you use for it, a SMPS or a LPS? Did you try different PSs, maybe the gap to Hakai can be closed with a special PS? Matt, I simply used a standard micro USB charger that I already had here, I'm certain some of the gap could be closed by t...

Re: Asus Tinker Board

What is your verdict on Tinkerboard S vs. Hakai so far if you give both the environment where they can perform best? The Hakai sounds better but it's close. The Tinker Board S has no right to sound as good particularly with the micro USB power supply. Also think it might sound better with the OS on...

Re: Asus Tinker Board

I've owned a Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 and trialled a number of Japanese streamers prior to finding out about the Hakai. The Tinker Board S beat every streamer I've listened to aside from the Hakai. And was close to the Hakai for musicality and detail.

If you haven't tried it already, try listening on other devices and see what results you get. I'd be interested to know if it's me, or if others experience the same variation to the point of changing preference between clips based on the device(s) on which they're replayed. What struck me in the ro...
