Re: Oz ᴉɐʞɐH

And a spare still in the bubble wrap.

Whatever works Pete. If feet are tapping that's a great sign especially at this price point. Did you notice a difference using the Supra cable?

Re: Oz ᴉɐʞɐH

I removed the motherboard from that case and used a better case. Instead of doing that I would remove the PCB with the USBs and the jacks shown in the pic. Simple removal and it may have a small SQ gain. I've repeatedly tested the 6 USB ports. All 4 rear ports (mounted directly on the motherboard) ...

If you pick up another good motherboard and set it up as a NAS it'll outperform your PC by a very significant margin. I removed the motherboard from that case and used a better case. Re: Oz ᴉɐʞɐH

Thanks Pete. How are you playing flac files? Do you have a NAS? Obvious upgrades from the pic: 1. USB cable from Hakai to DAC. The Supra cable recommended by Fredrik sounds clearly better. I bought mine immediately after hearing one owned by my friend. Given the quality control issues people have ha...

Re: Deezer or TuneIn on Hakai

If you use HiFi Cast as a control point you get Internet Radio built-in. I've just started using HiFi Cast, having added Twonky to my existing media PC (it's a little Atom box I've had for about 10 years, on which I store all my media backed up via Livedrive). I've been using the Sonos control poin...

rps20200101_170701~2.jpg If you use one of these multi sata cards to build a server please use the following order: 1. On Snakeoil Agent_Kith added Bubble Upnp which supports Tidal, Qobuz and perhaps more.

Kith is ingenious. He finds a way around problems.

Re: Deezer or TuneIn on Hakai

If you use HiFi Cast as a control point you get Internet Radio built-in. My current favourite Oz Hakai motherboard is the Intel 2500cc. When I bought it the cost was less than £20. It's gone up from what I can see but there's little sound quality difference between it and the Intel DN2800MT. Snakeoi...

Pono Player

Prior to being told about the quite wonderful Hakai I bought two of the Neil Young Pono players. The Pono player is still a very good portable player for me but I think it will be outstripped by the portable player I intend to build using an Asus Tinker Board S, DAC and a flac packed SSD. The Pono p...

Any conclusions on the switches would be great to know. I've had positive results here from layering two switches (Netgear GS108 and DS108). Still to get the Harting switch I bought working but it's with Harting now so ought to be resolved. I have three TP Link switches of varied quality to try on s...

SnakeOil doesn't currently support either. However if you go down the Snakeoil route you can ask Agent_Kith to add them. He's a ludicrously helpful man.

I have ordered the RGeek 200W adapter and also the Z2-ATX-200 plug in board. Looking forward to comparing them with the Streacoms! RGeek delivery is usually very fast. The Z2 was held up for me but there are post virus backlogs I think. I hope it all arrives quickly. Some of Australians mod the Z2,...

Re: Power supply

Which mains block are you referring to? The 200W one from RGeek? From what I can see, that's a class I adapter, which means you will have ground loops in your system. Same problem as with the Streacom (which I described above). There are 3 other 24-pin ATX DC-DC adapters at RGeek. Have you tested a...

I've been having a look on the web for a power supply with that much current, and none of them seem to have a barrel output connector. Can you find a link to a suitable one Fredrik? Re: a bit of fun

I found the, "listen to an earlier system" idea very easy. When moving house I discovered the system (minus the speakers) I listened to before I bought my primarily Linn-based system - it had been in a cupboard for twenty years. The amps were Cyrus and the CD player was an award winning Rotel from t...

Re: DAC discussions

Odd indeed that two separate builds using different motherboards run into the same, unusual issue. Glad it’s solved! Checked the Hegel DAC interface for sake of good order and that’s at 100%. This warrants new DAC comparisons - being digitally reduced to 41% is unlikely to have worked in the Gigapo...

Good to know Matt. How does it measure up to the Gigaport? Sorry Brian, I do not have one. Maybe I buy the new eX if the first reports are good. Matt No worries. My thoughts are that I'd have to be blown away to move from the Gigaport. The various players I have based on a variety of motherboards e...
