Re: ADSM to Kikkin
This was very interesting to me because I am in the midst of an experiment. I have a ADSM of 2014 and its RCA inputs, line level and phono, can be set either to digitise or not. Last year I replaced my power amp and passive speakers for the active Kii3 with DSP that takes digital in and also analog ...

Re: Tunefulness is not a New subject but
It was so apparent when I swapped back to the Linn that Bill Wyman was playing was rock and roll. Stones released more fantastic live material with their reissue of Goat’s Head soup.

Tunefulness is not a New subject but
I have been trying some amps to match my JBL4365 and I have watched loads of YouTube videos by John Darko, Steve Guttenberg and Paul McGowan. Why am I bringing that up in one sentence? Well it’s because none of these charming knowledgeable gents speak of tunefulness ever. And yet is almost laughably...

Re: Floyd Toole’s tools
Hi, They are big speakers and sound large without being loud. They are more relaxed than the Linn models I have owned and the 242s I still have in the same living-room. (Far from ideal I know but I have not got the money I want for them.) I am still surprised the one amp is capable of driving such a...

Re: Floyd Toole’s tools
An old Linn 2250 with Dynamik power supply does it very well. But that could change 😀.

Floyd Toole’s tools
I was overjoyed to see Dr Floyd Toole lay out a scientific test method of double blind testing of speakers. As all methods it has its pros and cons but it does away with a lot of bias by hiding the object from both the listener and test executioner. He discusses the different experience of the liste...

Listen to your iphone
I discovered that placing my iphone X on my chest while lying on the couch actually gives an astonishing stereo illusion. Everybody can hear it sounds awful from a distance but like this it is quite good. Make sure you place it vertically though.

Re: linn akurate dsm
Hi Iaoxi When I went from Akurate DS and Akurate Kontrol preamp to Akurate DSM some six years ago it was an upgrade for me. As the DSM also acts as preamp it is relevant to consider if you are going to use that or line out to another preamp. The DSM may also have the Exakt option depending on how ol...

Re: Possibly time to move on from Akurate 242's but to what?
Yes thank you I could not have explained that. I recently got a very good pair of passive speakers and I put my 242s up for sale and those who contacted me lost interest when they understood mine were mk 1. Last week I was setting up the Linns with my Exakrbox again I could not Konfigurate them as u...

Re: Possibly time to move on from Akurate 242's but to what?
Nine months have passed but reading your post I thought of one thing, did you adjust the volume of your DSM? Because I recently did for my new set up using the analogue outputs of my Akurate DSM. In Konfig you choose volume and I had to subtract -24 dB to get to where loud is 80 on the display. I fo...

Akudorik / Akubarik
When What Hifi tested Linn’s Akudorik and Akubarik they thought these speakers performed better with their Naim streamer and preamp than with Akurate DSM. OK but as both were active models and with Exakt crossovers I don’t understand how that works. Are there an analog inputs to these speakers?

Re: Place the electronics in a separate room
To think before jumping to conclusions? An Exakt set-up is a complicated system. If you’re changing more than one variable at a time it’s difficult to conclude anything. I am not ready with this exercise but as the exaktbox stopped working I will take a break till it’s fixed. It was a discovery that...

Okay so what happened was that I activated the space optimum simultaneously as moving my dsm. Not so strange the sound changed.

Re: Place the electronics in a separate room
What a wonderful thread. Since I have the ADSM and an Exaktbox the easiest first test was to move the DSM which I did this evening. Without the LP12 all that unites it to the rest is an ethernet cable. So from a place on a Quadraspire 20 cm from my right channel to the hallway at the back of our lis...

Re: Place the electronics in a separate room
How interesting I feel encouraged to try this although I am going to need all that cabling for my active 242s. Or I can do the comparison with a pair of passive Tannoys I have lying about. If I notice an improvement it would also hold for the 242s.

Place the electronics in a separate room
I remember from the legend of Ivor trying out his turntable found it sounded better if placed in another room than the speakers and this idea stayed with me. What if I were to move everything but the speakers into an adjoining room. Would this not rule out most of the feedback which is the only reas...

Re: Per A's set-up
After reading a post by ThomasOK (that I can’t find again) I have experimented and turned off space optimization. After repositioning the Akurates I find them more musical and fun to listen to. The urge to improve them came from a spontaneous acquisition of a pair of cheap Tannoy System 600 speakers...

Re: Playlist
For me the artist of 2018 became Neko Case her album Hell-On is wonderful although I can’t decipher her lyrics but accepts them as poetry. And we actually got to see her show in Stockholm which was also great. She has recorded for many years but I became aware of her as Iggy Pop played a song in his...

Re: Per A's set-up
Yesterday I switched the 2250 to drive the trebles of my Akurate 242s (not the supertweeters) and the 5125 to the low bass. There was a definite difference. The treble is better controlled and separated between left and right channel. The result is better music I think and I don't miss any bass. I w...

Hi Paaf Thanks for sharing your interesting upgrades. I have the same type of Qnap nas that you replaced. It is quite noisy in itself. It makes a low frequency sound that can be heard through the walls of our apartment. But what is worse is it is so slow that I hardly use it except for music I can’t...
